Question:
I am learning japanese,and I was wondering when when I say one word like Kyo(today) and I want to ask a question,do I say Kyo-ka? Or is it all about the tone of the question?
Answer:
You mean a conversation like this?
your friend: nanika surukoto aru? (What are you gonna do?)
YOU: kyou? a, kanojo to deeto. (Today? Actaually, I'm going out with my GF)
If I got your question right;
kyou? --> casual (between friends, family)
kyou desuka? --> polite (to superior, stranger)
kyou ka? --> NG
kyou wa? --> NG
