Should i stay in hakone or odawara?

Question:

hey guys,
going to japan for a few days next month. i had 2 questions which you guys could me answer

1) (i think) hotels are kinda hard to book in hakone, compared to other cities in japan. hotels and expensive and ryokans are expensive too. just going to be there for one night, so can you guys recommend a good budget place where i can spend the night?

2) now, do i really have to spend a night in hakone, or can i just spend the night in odawara. is that a cheaper option?
