Budget two weeks in japan?

Question:

Vague question but how much would it cost stay for two weeks , plan to travrl around see more sites and places, want to stay in japanese style accomodations like a ryokan,

Answer:

45,100¥ for 14 day rail pass. works on certain bullet trains, and all other Japan Rail lines. Does not work on underground which is starts at about 150¥ per journey (A lot of Japanese told me a single return journey on bullet train already makes the JR pass worth buying)

per night per person, apparently ryokan prices start at 5000¥ but where I stayed, the prices start at 15,000¥ (this place is tanabe ryokan in Hida, Takayama. Takayama is a beautiful place the seems to be off the maps slightly for foreign tourists, though I saw Chinese there, definitely worth going if you get JR Pass. It is also a very beautiful journey on the train there)

i stayed at hostels which were all extremely clean and friendly places. Prices start at 1400-2900¥. j-hoppers and K's hostels are nice places. Use hostelworld.com to find (and book accomodation if you want to)

a lot of sites tend to charge entry fees ranging from 200-1000¥ temples and shrines are free though.

Food is quite cheap if you find the right places, menus are usually outside though closed doors were mighty confusing to me. meals usually cost from 500-2000¥. Cooking for yourself is cheaper. You can also find pot ramen, bread, sushi and other quick meals in the numerous 7/11, Lawsons and other chains.

I set myself a limit of 10,000¥ per day which was more than enough for food, entry fees, souvenirs and other fun.

You'll also find ATMs in all 7/11s and post offices. most foreign cards work in both, some only work at post offices. Post offices are closed on saturday and sunday and rarely are the atms outside of the post office.

if you need any more info just ask
hope i helped
