Using "ano" in japanese?

Question:

Toshokan wa ano biru no tonari desu. - please explain how "ano" was used here?
I know the sentence means "The library is next to that building." but if I were to
translate it, it's gonna be "Toshokan wa SONO biru no tonari desu". BTW. There's a statement
prior that. "Asoko ni ookii biru ga arimasu ne" I'm guessing it has something to do with
that...I just want a "textbook" explanation. thanks

Easiest explanation...

kono biru = this building
sono biru = that building (next to you)
ano biru = that building (away from both of us)


Without a noun to modify, these become...

kore = this
sore = that (next to you)
are = that (away from both of us)


If describing a place (as opposed to an object)...

koko = here
soko = there (next to you)
asoko = over there (away from both of us)


"asoko ni ookii biru ga arimasu ne" = "there's a big building over there"
