How does Japan really feel about gays, cross dressers, and different age relationships?

Question:

I've been reading and watching a lot of anime lately and the majority of the guy characters seem to hint at homosexual tendencies very often, there are a lot of gays in anime, a lot of guys cross dress or are overly feminine, and I've encountered a lot of not age appropriate relationships. Like teens and adults being in love or preteens and adults. So is Japan really ok with all this stuff?
Personally I think it would be cool since I want to live there some day!

Answer:

Anime often portrays exaggeration so it does not mean it's real. Japan is open to the LGBT/gay community. There are gay prides happening every year in big cities like Tokyo and Osaka. There are also gay bars and many gay entertainers. In TV, there are gay/crossdressing/transvestite entertainers. But gay marriage is still not honored here. I know some European gay people working as entertainers in some gay bars in Shinjuku.
May-December or different age relationship is often judged by many people. There are still many people close minded by it especially if it's a huge gap like 20 years above. Take for example Erika Sawajiri (24 yrs old) and her ex husband which is 46 years old. Many people criticized them.

So in conclusion, Japan is not a land of anything alright and happy endings. Many people still have strict moral codes.
