Is Sonny Chiba still popular/liked in Japan today?

It's just been a few weeks, and I have watched about 10+ Sonny Chiba films (street fighter trilogy, karate bear-fighter, karate bullfighter, karate for life, Shorinji Kempo (or The killing machine), Yakuza Deka, the executioner, Shoguns Samurai and some more).

And all i can say is WOW!!! WOW!! He is like the Japanese Bruce Lee! As a big fan of martial arts and martial arts movies (mostly HK), I was very amazed at the work of Sonny Chiba, i just never thought he could be this good!! I am now convinced that he is (or was) one of Japan's best heroes and icon stars, because i think he deserves to be. And he a special sort of Charisma too.

Japanese people: You are so lucky to have such an amazing icon star!! If I was Japanese I would be so proud of him!! Japanese culture is so amazing, the martial arts, the food, Ninja and Samurai, and the loyal and Honorable people!

So what do you think of Sonny Chiba??

And is he still famous and liked in Japan today? or was that mostly in the 1970's and 80's?
