What is gay culture like in Japan?

I know nothing about the subject and any information regarding any resources such as books, websites, and the like would be greatly appreciated. Traditional concept of Japanese gay would be , younger gays are stanging at the corner of buildings or parks in Shinjuku 2 choume (a famous district of gays in Tokyo)in the evening , older gay visits there, find his partner, and the younger one earns USD100/night.
Some may run "gay bar" in old buildings. Ordinary people sometimes visit there just for curious fun.


But recently there are many surgically sex changed men (women) wearing magnificent dresses.
