How often is the term 無神論者 (むしんろんしゃ)used in Japanese?

Question:

If I told someone I was a mushinronsha would they know what I mean?

Answer:

Yeah, it is not as common as atheist in English. I would probably say something like 神様なんて信じない。But, it is probably not going to come up in conversations ever. No one has ever asked me what I believed in Japanese. I always offer the information that I am Christian. It has been my experience that they assume all Americans are. If its important to you to clarify that, you can. But it is not as important or defining as it is in the states.
