Question:
Hello, I have a Japanese penpal and I would love to surprise her with a Nengajo card, I only know a little about them, so any information you have would be much appreciated. Obviously you cant buy them in shops in the UK so what would you recommend? can you illustrate your own, and what would I have to include, any links showing examples or templates? Ok I will stop and let you answer :) THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE! I hope she likes it!
Answer:
Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu.
明けましておめでとうございます。
(this is only said AFTER 1st of jan has kicked in, before you say yoi ototoshi o良いお年を )
nenga ねんが should be written in red on the side with stamp and address (in japan this means they know it is for new year and will be delivered on the right date - they deliver on new years day - therfore you can use 明けましておめでとうございます as apposed to 良いお年を as it will be in the new year)
template wise, you could use a postcard size picture and make your own, but also there are some places online where you can print off templates. there is some info on here http://www.letsjapan.markmode.com/index.…
they are very similar to western postcards in the sense that there is a picture on one side and the writing and address on the other. remember the address goes from postcode backwards (starting with the postcode then counrty, then city, prefecture, street, then ending up with the name at the bottom)
