When did they build the (now) traditional homes in Japan?

Question:

I don't know whether traditional homes of Japan are still being made now. I want to know when they were built back in the day, and if most of them were built back in the day, instead of them being built now just because of tradtion, are there people living in them?

Answer:

The current generation of houses is different from that of a generation ago and that style is yet different from the previous generation. It depends on what you want to call traditional. The (now) traditional homes, well, I live in one I guess, as do most of my neighbors. My in-laws live in a house from the previous generation.
