What makes Japan become a developed country at the first place ?

As far as I know from what I learned from the history,Japan was a poor country,but now,It's probably the most developed country in Asia.What's the secret ?

Answer:

Americans built it? don't make me laugh. The Americans would be responsible for destroying almost all of Japan after WW2.

Japan was a developed country because the Japanese worked hard to develop their country. The Japanese had the vision to see that if they were not to modernize their country, they will be colonized like the rest of Asia by western imperialists.
