What would Japan be like today if Buddhism wasn't introduced and Shinto was the only religion of Japan?

Then we'll have other way of funeral. Seriously, please understand that most of us are not religious. We go to shrines, temples, do rituals, etc. but we're not really letting religion affect our decisions in life.
If Buddhism was not introduced, I think (in my opinion) there'll be a little effect. In present, not even everyone is familiar with Buddhism philosophies. So it would be just like today. No major differences at all. Except there'll be no monks praying in temples now.
