I think it is possible, but are you doing this to help, or are you doing it for yourself? LOL, like the "person" who just got back from Italy?

You can hold charity bazaars or a yard sale and donate.

But if you want to go, try checking out the Japanese Red Cross, and also Habitat for Humanity. If you go with a group that has a good translator, you can probably do a lot of good grunt work. I think it's a wonderful thing . . . the Japanese are so impressed by the generosity the world has shown so far!
