Although I don't know exact figures, I don't think it'd be any more expensive than what you're already paying at home. Hobbies are very popular in Japan, and places like Akiba in Tokyo have expansive hobby departments full of paint and brushes and other bits and pieces to craft models or water color or any other kind of painting, and although I've not knowingly seen canvases there (wasn't something I was looking for), they probably sell them, too. So, I'd say that the prices are probably pretty much the same between where you are and Japan.
