Is it rude to pick up a bowl and drink the soup or should you use a spoon?

I usually drink from small bowls like miso soup without a spoon but what about bigger bowls, like ramen? Would it be inappropriate in Japan?

Answer:

Having soup without using a spoon is acceptable if it's Japanese/Asian food, which is considered "bad manners" in Western.
Besides 'ramen' is almost like 'fast food' level which doesn't require much of manners, I guess. And many people (usually male) drink the soup directly from the bowl, while women usually use a spoon or just leave the soup.
