Question:
We will be there for 5 nights and would love to know where we would find certain things. We are looking for some cool arcade, where we live there is nothing of the sort around and we are avid gamers. I know that a lot are closing from what I am reading but I cannot find any info on ones that are open still. Also some good historical sites would be cool to see, an hour or so away wouldn't be that big of a deal. We are going on May 16th 2012, any advice would be wonderful!
Also, the rail passes are EXPENSIVE so I was wondering if paying about 30usd per trip is worth paying versus 500 USD. We will mostly be in Shibuya, but would be willing to travel to other locations if the site was worth it.
Answer:
arcade? What kind of arcade do you want to visit?
JR Pass is not worth if you stay within Tokyo. It's for those who take long distance trains several times.
It's better to buy a ticket every time you take a train.
Addition:
>I heard Taito Station was good, but it is a little bit away.
Taito Station is a national chain with many of them in Tokyo. One of them is in Shinjuku, for example.
Street Fighter is popular one. So it's in many arcades. You need to be more specific what you want. Or we can't choose any.
Addition2:
>He grew up in the 80s and 90s so anything old school would be nice
This TRY Amusement Tower in Akihabara has a lot of video games, old game on the 7th floor.

You can see photos of games which are there now.
>Is Shibuya a good place to stay or is there a better location?
Tokyo has extensive train network. So you can go to other places easily. You don't need to care where you stay.
