On CNN they say that donation to Katrina during 3-4 days was $150mln and to Japan only $23mln.?

Question:

It's during the same period of time. Why do you think people donate less?
Another donation website by NHK: www.jrc.or.jp/english

Answer:

Donation for Haiti was 150 Million...an already impoverished country.
Actually Hurricane Katrina, donations were around $108 million. (Less than Haiti)

A heavy reliance on text donations could also be partly responsible for the low total. Giving online and text giving is good because it's fast but text giving tends to lower what people would donate.

But low donations do not necessarily set the tone of the global response

Japanese earthquake could be most expensive ever

****"A lot of the nonprofits waited to see what Japan actually wanted and started their appeals later," she explained. "This slower reaction might mean that the money goes to the right places."****
