It was said that even long before the WWII, the Canadians hated the Japanese already. why is that?

I don't specifically understand why the British Colombians hated the Japanese-Canadians when they immigrated to Canada. Why did they want to get rid of them, even though they didn't do such awful things to the Canadians? And what does it have to do with the Chinese??

Canada seem to have followed the example of its neighbor to the south, in dealing with the Japanese in Canada.
