Why can't I sit like a Japanese Person?

Question:

My legs just don't bend that way... is it normal for someone outside of Japan?

Answer:

If you are talking about "Seiza" style sitting, I think it's quite natural for any person to feel pains or difficulty in sitting Seiza.
I'm over 70 years old and and I hate sitting Seiza and except for a very short time (a few minutes) I sit crossed legged "Agura", otherwise I can't stand the pains on my legs.
These days, people are becoming more generous about sitting Agura even on formal occasions like
a Buddhist funeral service.
And more and more such service is held with chairs provided these days.
The pains from sitting "Seiza" is very much excruciating!.
