First answer is correct except that it is not compulsory to hire any Japanese locals. Well i will tell you straight up (as someone into business) that your chances of success is very slim indeed. The market is already saturated as it is and the average Japanese learns English in schools these days (as part of the curriculum) or knows how to get resources for free. And those already running their business in Japan (mostly offline) have done so for years and have good contacts. You are coming in as a newbie and chances of failure is much higher than any chance of succeeding

I'm from Edmonton, so let me explain about how I find Japanese weather....
The winter in my area of Japan (northern Tohoku) is cold in winter, but mild temperature wise compared to Edmonton. The coldest I've experienced here is -10, but up north, -20 or -30 isn't unheard of. There is a lot of snow. Two years ago we received over a meter of snow in 36 hours, and it basically never stopped all winter. The snow here is wet and heavy.

My husband laughs at me because I get cold inside the house. Japanese homes are not well made compared to Canadian ones. If I want to warm up, I go outside!

Spring and Autumn are quite nice here. The weather isn't terribly cold, nor terribly hot.

Summer is insanely hot and humid. It can reach +38 or more and doesn't cool down much at night. I have it better here than people in Tokyo, where it is even hotter and more humid. It stays that hot for weeks.

The rainy season is just that. Rainy. It rarely stops for about a month. It's depressing and causes things in your home to mould like crazy.

On the plus side, all the humidity is good for your skin! When I go back to Canada I have to use moisturiser all the time.

So, to answer your question, I would say that no, the weather in Japan is not like the weather in Canada. Your mileage may vary depending on where in Canada you live.

Do you need a degree to volunteer in japan?

I wont be paid at all, I know you need a degree for any sort of official job in Japan, but this is just volunteer work. It's like a young people's verbal tic like to say: "you know", "like", "OK", "you see", ....

Radiation Crisis: Is it safe to have infant in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan?

Please look at a map of Japan ! The nuke plants in question are north east in Fukushima. What's that ? 200 miles, maybe ?
Radiation was NEVER a problem in Tokyo. So 50 miles south certainly isn't going to be an issue either.

Why don't you go to southern Japan, like Kyushu. I recommend you to visit Kumamoto that has a variety of geographic magnificent near Mt. Aso. I love it. I want to visit there again!.

So bottom line is, You can go anywhere, but stay out of the very small area within 20km radius of the Fukushima nuclear plant.

If you really worry about the radiation, then buy one Geiger counter at a shop in Japan.
Any money will be welcomed. That'll help Japan recover.

Also I feel terribly uneasy about reading and writing. I know a good bit enough to get me through maybe two seconds with a native speaker. The best thing I can recommend to you is to get a Japanese textbook. It will cost you around $30 but you can study from it in depth. The nice thing about textbooks is they have a conversations the way native speakers would have them. You can take that, practice it. Change topics and re write it, etc.

The second thing I would do is either get a native speaking tutor or find a conversation partner to meet with on skype. This way you will have someone to check your grammar and pronunciation and make sure you are doing it right. The classifieds on http://www.japan-guide.com/ and http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showfor… both have a lot of people looking for exchange partners.

One thing I will caution you about. When I was a beginner and I talked to Japanese people, I always spoke in English because I wanted to hear more about Japan. You have to discipline yourself. Don't let yourself get side-tracked or embarrassed. If the goal is to practice, then practice.

I can only tell you what happened to an Iranian friend of mine in a similar situation.....

After marriage, he had to leave Japan. I think for only 1 year, but maybe 2. He could NOT come back into Japan until the period was up. Now, 5 years sounds a bit long, but my guess is that if a visa is generally required for someone from your country, Japan is not going to grant you a visa. Your documents didn't help you when you turned yourself in so I see no reason that they are going to help you now.

Want a definitive answer? Contact the Japanese Embassy in your country. I would say use Google but I doubt that the site will go into enough detail regarding your problem. Talk to them directly. And be prepared to wait another 3 years.
