Cheap transportation can sightseeing Tokyo to Fukuoka?

Question:

Landed Tokyo on 28th Aug 2011. Have 1week to travel to Osaka, Narita, Fukuoka and return.
1) What is the cheap transport from tokyo to south and return, any ticket pass to buy. How much different Shinkansen and bus?
2) Hostel for backpacker any link hostel that connect every places like XBase hostel in Aust and NZ.
3) What is temperature and season like
4) Sighseeing to Fuji but not climbing.. where should i start? From Tokyo or after returning from Fukuoka.

Answer:

1 week to crisscross the country and sightseeing Mt. Fuji!

I recommend you research getting the JAPAN RAIL PASS. A one week version costs 28300 Japanese yen, you need to purchase it before you come to Japan from a travel agency. It pays itself off especially for the amount of travel you want to do. I recommend dropping the trip to Mt. Fuji. On a clear day, you should be able to see Mt. Fuji on the right side of the Shinkansen train from Tokyo-Osaka (left side on the return)

It will be summer, hot weather but near the end of Summer.

How do I become a model for Japanese fashion magazines?

Question:

My dream is to be a Japanese fashion magazine model. Popsister, Jelly, Vivi, CanCam just to name a few. I would do anything to make that happen! Study Japanese religiously etc. I am Chinese in origin but I know there are Chinese girls currently modelling. I am not the tallest - I'm only 5'3 but for magazine editorials i dont think its necessary to be runway model tall?

Please tell me how I can achieve this dream! Are there agencies that I can join? How do girls get discovered? Do they mail their pictures to the magazines editors?

Answer:

You are not going to become a model in Japan i am afraid. They are already talented locals there. How can you start a career in another country when you have no experience in your own country? do you speak the language? and what is wrong with trying to start your career in your own country? start there first and once experienced, see where it takes you

Can you explain me the difference between "to omou" and 'to omotte iru".

Can you explain the expression of difference in them.Create a sentence for example with translation.

Thank you

What is the difference between the both:

Nihon e ikou to omou

Nihon e ikou to omotte iru

Answer:

There is virtually no difference between those 2. It's basically "I think" or "I'm thinking". But there is little difference between those 2 in English, right?

BTW, omou has 2 ways to write, 思う and 想う. Your example does not specify which one.

思う is to think
想う is to love or to care someone, more personal feeling.

How popular is SNSD (少女時代) in Japan?

Question:

I'm curious with their new album reaching double platinum and their Japan tour.
Is that very popular or just average popularity?
Also, are they now on par with KARA?

Answer:

They are very very popular in Japan. According to reliable statistics, they are more famous than Kara at this period of time although Kara had their ''Huge Japan Base in Japan''. Talking bout sales and popularity in their concerts, I suppose they are above Kara by a little bit. Based on some interviews, Japanese preferred SNSD korea then their own AKB48 japan girl group.

What are Japan's natural resources?

I always see products that are made in Japan.

Fish or rice are not natural resources. Japan does not have much natural resources after all.

There used to be many coal mines in Japan. But now most of them are closed because it's better to import it. It's true though that Japan has some coals.

Need help plz read(Japanese cultural differences)?

Question:

There is a Japanese restaurant that I really want to work at. Other than the Japanese chefs everyone is young white and good looking. So work experience and me not being Japanese shouldn't hurt. How should I approach asking for a job there. What specific differences should I take in applying. All my friends went in there looking for a job and they all said the owner yelled at them then proceeded to pretend to talk on the phone. A help wanted sign has been up for weeks now.

Answer:

I worked at one for several years. First off, don't assume they are Japanese. Many of them are run by Koreans, although there are a couple out there with Japanese owners.

Just go and apply. Expect to share your wages with all the other servers and chefs if it's a cook-in-front-of-you place. The chefs will get 50 percent of your tip. The waitresses usually got between 10-15 percent. I literally walked out with less than half of my own tips every night. Other nights when it was slow, the owner gave everyone 30 USD if we didn't make that much.

Each place is different... I know this.. but they all typically run almost the same. Just apply. That's all you can do.

What is with Japan and tall buildings?

Question:

Japan has some of the most expensive real estate in the world, and some of the grandest visions for mega buildings. Yet there are no buildings over 1000'. With the rest of Asia on a mad building spree, Japan is not participating and has no building over construction over 1000'.

Why are they different than nearly every country in East Asia?

Answer:

Because Japan is a very earthquake prone country, one of the most earthquake prone countries in the world, building tall skyscrapers is not traditionally a Japanese thing to do at that height.

You don't hear about earthquakes shaking up Singapore or Hong Kong very much.

Of course some tall structures do exist in Japan, like the new Sky Tree communications tower being built.

---

Concepts are often used in building other things, often like concept cars. Concept cars are often rarely built in mass production, but people keep making them. The ideas brought inside concept cars are often used in the development of other things. Building concepts like the famous Sky City 1000 were used in other buildings.

In addition, the technology might not be fully available yet. Newer futuristic building materials might exist in the future that make the idea a possibility, something that is tall but highly resistant to earthquakes and swaying in Japan's earthquake environment.

Finally, telling an architect (assuming you are one yourself) to stop developing concepts and plans, is like telling a pilot he won't be able to fly anymore, or a author he won't be able to write anymore.

Does it get really icy in Japan?

Question:

Over the cold seasons in Japan, I know it can get snowy there. But does ice become a big problem? I'm wondering because walking seems to be a big form of transportation there.

Also, does the snow make walking around difficult? I've heard that it snows a lot but the snow doesn't stick much.

Answer:

It really depends on where you live in Japan. I live in Gifu, which is near the center of Japan and we have quite a lot of mountains so it is very cold in Winter and we get quite a bit of snow. The roads can get very icy in winter and it can be hard to walk, but it is still possible. I've had to dig my car out of the snow quite often in the middle of winter but public transport still runs and there are still ways to get around.

Where to get a big, poster sized map of Japan?

Question:

My partner and I are going to Japan for a month and a half. To make sure it all goes smoothly, whilst planning, I want to buy a poster sized map of Japan (not a satellite map, one with roads and suburbs) and draw on our route etc.

I've looked on eBay, but no luck.

We don't have a printer here, so I can't print off 20 pieces and sticky-tape them together xD

Any ideas where we could get one?

Thank you very much for your help!

Answer:

I would get a big fold-out travel map like one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Japan-Travel-Third…

http://www.amazon.com/Japan-Travel-Map-G…

You could also try something like Allposters.com, but those maps tend to be more decorative then useful (you can fold the ones from Amazon back up and take them with you) and are more expensive.

Ultimately, though, if you can't find a pre-made map you like, you may have to find someplace with a printer and print your own map to get exactly what you want.

Is Japan becoming multiracial or something?

Are any Japanese people noticing women with foreign boyfriends(or vise versa) in Japan?

Answer:

More and more people are traveling to Japan for job opportunities and many Japanese people wish to move to other places of the world.

I think that the younger generation of Japan is becoming more open to mixing cultures, so... I suppose the answer to your question would be yes.

However, I don't think Japan will ever be as multiracial as America.

How often do Japanese people bath?

Question:

I'm not trying to be racist or ignorant. It's just that I'll be studying abroad in Japan next year, and I need to know how often it would be polite to ask to use my host families bath/shower. I hope no one is offended by my choice of wording or my seemingly rude question.

Answer:

Daily. Without fail. My youngest daughter usually likes to take a shower as soon as she gets home during the summer and then a bath at night.

Most likely you will be offered to use the bath first. Remember to wash before you get in. Well, at least rinse very well, but washing would ensure the water stays clean. You see various levels of effort of the rinsing, and I have seen older guys at my country club just plop right in without making any effort at all.

Our homestay student wasn't too keen on the bath, even though we offered to let her go first. She preferred a shower. No big deal, I'm the same way. I may get in the bath sometimes during the winter, but other than that, it's just showers.

What is the fastest way to get stationed in Japan as a BlackHawk pilot?

Question:

I'm starting flight school in a couple of weeks. I heard Korea is extremely easy to get to, but nobody can tell me how to get to Japan. I assume qualifying on the language test would help some, but is there any other advice?

Answer:

The first thing you might want to think about is where there's need for these pilots ? It won't be Japan. More likely the middle east depending on what country we intend to attack next.
You haven't even started flight school yet, so you have a lot of time to think about it. Bear in mind few reach the status of a Blackhawk pilot.

What does "omae heta sugi w" mean in japanese?

Question:

thanks!

Answer:

You look too clumsy (for that) - lol -
You're too bad (at something) - lol -

I can't judge how rude it'd be because it really depends on the situation.
"omae heta sugi" can be used between male friends. It sounds even friendly/frank to me.
Being 'informal'(casual) doesn't mean being 'rude', which is something that Japanese learners seem to be confused.

In japan do they have english translations on everything?

Question:

Like in america there is usually spanish translations. I really want to go to japan one day but i dont want to learn japanese haha.

Answer:

There are English translations in many train stations. Airports also. But by and large, it's Japan and signs are in Japanese.

Now, this doesn't mean you would have lots of problems just visiting. My cousin and her husband came to visit once. I took them to the bullet train station in Osaka and got them on the train. They went to Tokyo, found their hotel, found the bus station the next morning, went to Mt. Fuji, found the tour bus up the mountain stayed there overnight, found the next tour bus that took them on a two day trip through Hakone and then made it back to Osaka. And the extent of their Japanese was 'good morning', 'thank you' and 'it tastes good'.

My sister made a visit took a day trip to Hiroshima. Not quite the adventure that my cousin took, but still got back okay.

Now, it would be useful if you could learn some basic Japanese. How much is it, what time does the train come, does this train stop at xxxx, where is the train station, and simple things like that.

Parties and festivals and such in Japan and such during the High School vacation?

Asking this question twice in one day isn't going to get you any new answers.

You and your mate might try Google. Lots of good information there. And you can connect to the same link over and over and over again.

Japanese language help?

Question:

From a website I read,it said :

Ashita ame ga furu to omoimasu

"If the content of the quoted clause expresses one's intention or speculation about a future event or state, a volitional form of a verb is used preceding "~ to omou." To express a thought other than one's volition or opinion toward the future, a plain form of a verb or adjective is used preceding "~ to omou" as shown in the examples above."

Oyogi ni ikou to omou

--------------------------------------…
Okay now i have one question look at the sentence below:

Watashi wa kondo no sakka no shiai wa kitto burajiru(Brazil) ga katsu to omoimasu.

At the up coming soccer match,I think Brazil will win.

Now isn't the sentence above is a "speculation about a future event or state",so why isn't the VERB in Ikou form(volitional form)?

Answer:

Nope, it isn't supposed to rain tomorrow. And it's not volitional because I really would like something to break up this heat.

Tokyo questions please?

Question:

I really want to go, but can someone please tell me a bit about it? Is it anything like what it looks like in Tokyo Drift? What is there to see and do?

Answer:

Shallow movies never portray Japan right.
But there is a lot to see and do in Tokyo. Try:
Harajuku/Meiji Shrine on a Sunday to see the bizarre fashions.
Odaiba at night for a real trip.
See Love Hotel Hill in Dogenzaka at night for something uniquely Japanese.
Tsukiji Fish Market at the crack of dawn.
Akihabara for the electronics.
Shinjuku and Shibuya at night for the endless lights and neon.
Kabukicho for the sleazy red light district
Ginza for the overpriced shopping.
Yasukuni for a real experience of Nihonjinron.
Tokyo Metropolitan Gov't Building in Shinjuku (better view from the top than the Tokyo Tower, and
all free!)
Roppongi for the ex-pat environment

Better still, get out of Tokyo when you can and take some day trips to Kamakura, Nikko, Hakone, and the Fuji 5 Lakes.

Lost wallet in Japan, what should I do!?

Question:

Hey all

I lost my wallet last night. It had my address in as well as other stuff, what are the chances of someone returning it? And also, where should I go to tell the police? A main station or can I do it at a small police booth?

Answer:

It depends on where you are supposed to have lost it.

If you think you lost it on street, go to the nearest koban, police box, what's where lost properties are supposed to be brought if someone found it. But it's not 100% certain that someone who found it would take it to koban.

If you think you lost it at a train station, go to an office of that station.

In both cases, you have to write a document, saying that you lost it and describing it. So you need to read and write Japanese.

Sometimes my messages can be delayed up to 40 minutes. I newly subscribed for a Galaxy SII and it's so frustrating. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to live with this?

Answer:

>Is anyone else having a problem with Kakao Talk message delays with Docomo?
ドコモのカカオトークの遅れで困っている人は他にもいますか?

>Sometimes my messages can be delayed up to 40 minutes.
私のメッセージも40分程度遅れることがあります。

>I newly subscribed for a Galaxy SII and it's so frustrating.
最近Galaxy SIIと契約したばかりですが、イライラします。

>Is there a way to fix this or do I have to live with this?
この問題を解決する方法はあるのでしょうか?
あるいは、このまま使うしかないのでしょうか?

I lost my keitai! Can I get a replacement one?

Question:

I have applied for insurance and all, so could I get a new handset in a different Docomo shop from where I purchased and subscribed? Also is there a charge for this?

Answer:

Well, since you applied for insurance and all, and hoping you actually paid for said insurance, I would recommend looking at the insurance agreement that you should have received and see what you are expected to do in order to get a replacement.

Or you could simply ask strangers on the street what to do.

Your choice, but I would go with the first.

Japanese opinions of American Anime fans?

Question:

IOk let’s be honest here, what do the Japanese actually think of America/Canadian/British/etc. Anime Fans?

Will they be surprised if a foreigner tells them,
Foreigner: "Yeah i like anime..."
Japanese Man: "Really? No Sh**t... Never saw that coming" T__T LOL!

Now I know I am just assuming but I really want to know the real answer... Are they open arms with us about it, or do they find it with no surprise? Lol xP

Answer:

Well, I'm only a "haffu", but I've lived all of my life in Japan. (Aside from right now, as we're in China...) Anyway, I (we) never really think about it. We're not even as big on anime as foreigners seem to think.

I grew up watching things like Naruto, Inuyasha, Fullmeal Alchemist, Gundam... But it's not a huge part of our lives. We all, at some point, watch anime- but it's not a big deal. Just a cartoon. Something cute and entertaining to look at.

Honestly, my friends and I never really discuss whether foreigners like anime or not. Why does it matter? Just a cartoon.

I just asked my father, though (who is Japanese).
Pretty much went like this:

Meiko: Dad, what would you think if a foreigner told you they liked anime?

Dad: Why does it matter? It's a cartoon. I like anime. Your baby sister likes anime. Your mom likes anime. You like anime. You know pretty well that we've all sat around the tv to watch Spirited Away at sometime.

Meiko: So, you wouldn't be surprised or put off by that at all, right? 'Cuz that seems kind of illogical.

Dad: I never put much thought into it, but no. Anime is everywhere. It's just animation.

... Yeah. He didn't really care. I don't really care. Never known a person to care about it at all.
