What is the weather in Okinawa, Japan like in the fall?

Question:

I'm going to be going to Okinawa Japan next fall for school. And I was wondering what the weather is like in autumn. I live in Florida, so I'm used to tropical weather already. I'm just wondering if it's much different.

Answer:

Hi Autumn is still pretty hot, but it's a relief after the hot & humid summer. Also some typhoons. Late Autumn is good.

What kinds of dog breeds are available in Japan?

Question:

Sorry if this sounds ignorant but I'm honestly curious, are many dog breeds available for buying in Japan, similar to in America?

Because usually when I see dogs in Japan or in the media for Japan, they consist of many Japanese breeds like Akita's, Shiba-Inu's, Chihuahua's, labradors, and various toy dogs.

Thanks!

Answer:

Almost any dog is available. A neighbor has a bull mastiff. Huge dog. Probably hard to find and expensive, but he has one. Pet shops usually sell the smaller breeds, along with beagles, labs, cocker spaniels, and the like. But I think the prices are quite a bit higher. A dachshund usually is around $1300. As they get older, the price will come down, usually stalling somewhere around $500. Similar thing with other breeds.

Japan and their alphabets?

Question:

My dream is to move to Japan and I heard how Japan has many alphabets including just spelling out the word in Latin letters. So I was wondering which one is most commonly used like on the internet and which ones should I learn because I don't want to be writing to my friends in like some ancient form of Japanese I wanna know which should I learn or should I just spell them out in the English/Latin Alphabet?

Answer:

In Japanese there are 3 alphabets.

1) Kanji: These are Chinese characters that are used in Japanese. Kanjis are used commonly. There are approximately 2000 kanji characters widely used in Japanese.

For example:

Rain = 雨 (ame)

2) Hiragana: These are characters created by the Japanese. Hiragana is generally used for affixes or other grammatical expressions.

こんにちは (konnichiwa)

3) Katakana: These are used to write foreign words such as "Hamburger" or "McDonalds" :)

ハンバーガー (hanbaagaa: hamburger)
マクドナルド (Makudonarudo: McDonalds)

People who start to learn Japanese use hiragana and katakana more as it is hard for them to memorize "kanji" characters. (because there are over 2000 kanji characters that are used in Japanese and they look complicated at first)

To be able to speak Japanese naturally, you should learn all three alphabets. But if you just memorize hiragana and katakana alphabets and use them while writing your Japanese friends, that's ok too. But native Japanese people do use kanji. Only primary school Japanese students and foreigners who know elementary level Japanese use hiragana.

Hope it helps.

Question:

Is this correct?

Anata wa kurasu to youbi no uta wo uta( )nakeremanarimasen. - You must sing the day of the week song with the class.

Sorry i was just kind of guessing here. I could sound like a total idiot but I am trying to learn.
Also what syllabul would go in the parentheses?
Thank you!

Answer:

"You must sing the day of the week song with the (whole) class."

”曜日の歌” をクラス全体で歌うのが課題です。(~を今度歌ってください。)

"--- nakereba narimasen" is direct translation for "must verb" form, but we actually don't say like this when the subject is YOU
------- to add (roma-ji):
"youbi no uta" o kurasu zentai de utau noga kadai desu ('...no uta' o kondo utatte kudasai)"

How did Japanese democracy affect Yakuza's evolution and influence after WW2?

Question:

Answer:

The original concept of current Japanese constitution is derived from Louis Brandeis. He was an agent of Rothschild. Yakuza is a kind of Rockefeller and there was a betrayal against Rothschild (taking advantage of alliance with Greys in the Roswell incident. Thats why Kennedy started Apollo and eventually assasinated by later director of CIA Bush like Reagan recommended by Kubrick filmed the fabricated moon landing) so democracy is contrary to Yakuza.

Japan Isolation Period ?

Question:

What were the changes?
Who was involved in the changes?
During the Japan Isolation period what were the changes in agriculture there ? Can you answer these questions below ??

When did the changes occur?
Where did the changes occur?
Why did the changes happen?
How did the changes affect people at the time and in the long term?

Answer:

Japanese archipelago separated and became isolated from China around 11,000BC. Archaeological evidence indicates that Stone Age people lived in the Japanese archipelago during the Paleolithic period between 39,000 and 21,000 years ago. Japan was then connected to mainland Asia by at least one land bridge, and nomadic hunter-gatherers crossed to Japan from East Asia, Siberia, and possibly Kamchatka. Flint tools and bony implements of this era have been excavatedin Japan.

2000€ enough for 7 weeks in Japan?

Question:

I'm going to Japan this July and August for 7 weeks. We'll mostly be using couchsurfing and spend few nights in hostels. We're gonna buy one 2 week JR pass and one 1 week pass (already paid, means not included in those 2000€), the rest of the time we'll be traveling with buses and local trains. We plan to stay around 18 days in Tokyo and 1 week somewhere on the beach and eat cheap food. I calculated that 7 weeks in Japan with 2000€ means 40€ per day. Is that enough considering lodging will be free most of the time?
We will be traveling between Tokyo and Hiroshima with trips north to Shirakawa go and east of Tokyo to Nikko.

Answer:

It is not enough for one person for 7 weeks. If you were going to Laos then yes that would be fine but you are going to Japan - back to the drawing board i say:)

What are good rebuttals against the cons of using the atom bombs against Japanese?

Question:

I am doing a debate. I need some rebuttals! PLEASE HELP BEFORE JUNE 1

Answer:

Simple, they weren't necessary. The emperor had tried to surrender without " losing face ", but we wouldn't let him. We wanted it our way or not at all. The emperor knew the war was over. Japan was running low on supplies & money. The US has already destroyed half the country. Many people don't know we fire bombed 40 or 50 cities. Most of these cities had wood buildings, so they went up in smoke like dry weeds.
Not to mention we had two new toys we just couldn't wait to try out. The bad news is many thousands of people would die as a result of it.
Had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor. That was a provoked attack. Try going youtube and key in 'the bones of station H'...

Does anybody know a list of dog rental places in Tokyo or Kanagawa area Japan, Japan?

Question:

I really want to be able to walk a rental dog every weekend. I'm living and working in Kanagawa Japan (very close to tokyo) can anyone help me out, I cant seem to find any.

AND PLEASE I don't want to hear from you if all your going to do is complain about cruelty. The dogs at such places are cared for well and cannot be rehoused, so it helps the staff out when the dogs taken out for loving walks with people like me who love dogs. Its much crueller to buy a dog when you're not in the house 5 to 6 days a week due to work, leaving the poor thing to loneliness and habitual behaviour.

Answer:

Most of those lists are in Japanese. So you must be able to read Japanese.

This is a list, but not just Tokyo and Kanagawa.

Japanese question help?

Question:

I have two question:

First:

Shiken no mae ni
Before the exam

Why do we put "NO" in the middle of it,but no "NO" in this kind of sentence:

Sannen mae ni
Three years before

Neru mae ni
Before sleeping

Last does this sentence make sense(in the way its put):

Shiken no mae ni,PS3 o ju jikan shimashita.

If order of the sentence is not correct can you please show me the correct way.
Thanks

Answer:

Okay I have a go,
1)

First:
Why do we put "NO" in the middle of it,but no "NO" in this kind of sentence:
Firstly you have to find out each noun-phrase is like combined phrase or isolated phrase.
and if it looks like isolated word/phrase, you have to use 'のNo',
if it looks like combined word/phrase, you do not use 'のNo'.

Shiken no mae、 ni
試験の前、に =This sounds like ; at the preceeding time of the exam
(しけんのまえ、に)
Before the exam
= Shiken mae、 Ni <= you are also able to say this. this is the same.
試験前、に
(しけんまえ、に)
Sannen-mae ni
三年前、に = 'three-years-before' 'Ni'
Three years before
**************************************… cannot say 'Sannen' no mae ni
Sannen no mae ni
=>sounds like Sannnensei no mae ni = In front of Year 3 pupils/students
Sannensei=Year 3 pupils/students

Neru-mae ni
寝る前、に
Before sleeping
*******=>>>> You just do not say Neru(Verb) + No combination.
Verb(original form) +mae, Ni = before ...ing.

e.g. Asobu-mae, ni = before playing

Your sentence about PS3 is totally correct.

Shiken no mae ni, PS3 o ju-jikan shimashita.
=Shiken-mae ni, PS3 o ju-jikan shimashita. This is the same.
the latter one is more like linking-noun. that is all.

If you are not sure, just ask me more.
Cheers,

Can anyone recommend a good Japanese Grammar book?

Question:

I am studying Japanese and have found a lot of either discrepancy between online sources, or just that some aspects of grammatical points are covered in some, but not in others (so I cannot confirm the accuracy of a source). I was wondering if anyone else could recommend a few grammar books, so I could have a few more actually recommended sources rather than just the ones I happen upon via Google? At the moment the only actual book I am using is A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar. Online sources are: Tae Kim's Grammar Guide, Renshuu.org, and TheJapanesePage.com. Thank you for any help you can give me!

Answer:

My Japanese grammar book is "Japanese Demystified" by Eriko Sato which is a simplified version of Japanese grammar, it is in kanji, romaji and English and it has some exercises at the end of each theory stuff. The book consists of four parts, each covering different important aspects of Japanese grammar such as: how to describe things, describe actions etc etc..

I love that book because of the way it's written. It seems that some Japanese penfriend explains you that grammar not some sort of professor with his incomprehensible terms. So, in short, simple, clear, with kanji, informative, covers everything you would learn during 2 years in a Japanese language course in college in the US (at least it says so).

I don't do grammar drills and I use grammar books only for reference, so I guess it suits me. I use more books, like Essential Kanji Dictionary by O'Neil and various particle books, as I think in Japanese particles play a very important role. My one particle book is "Japanese Particle Workbook" by Taeko Kamiya (it's really mostly a WORKbook) and the other one - "All About Particles" by Naoko Chino (this one is very small and handy published by Kodansha, good size and nicely organized easy to find all particles). Well I use these for reference too (whenever I hear a new particle I just check it in the book).

Then there goes "Basic Connections: Making your Japanese flow" by Kakuko Shoji. Well this one is too advanced for me but I like to read it as a novel just to try and get a feel what it's like to be at that level. Anyway it has great example sentences and it can be useful for a beginner too (just to see what Japanese language looks/sounds like in different contexts).

Who do japanese better like better chinese or korean?

Question:

if they hate both of them then who do they hate more?

Answer:

Hard to answer, it will depend on the geopolitical situation at the time.

You see most japanese here would disagree, which is probably true. However intelligent right wingers and Yakuza dominate Japanese politics and society, not people here on YA, and those in power, in my opinion, hate China more as China is more than just an economic threat like Korea. They don't like to live under the shadow of China, it threatens their inferiority complex.

Very disappointed about the information system on the nuclear accident in Japan?

Question:

I always thought that Japan is a country that won't make the same mistake as Russia did with Chernobyl. I was sure they would tell their citizens if there was some serious worries.
And now, 10 weeks after the earthquake and tsunami, people get to know that the meltdown in all three reactors of Fukushima Daichi Power Plant happened right after the earthquake.

That's very bad for the reputation of the country Japan and I wanted to know about your opinions on that subject. Me for my point I'm very disappointed.

Answer:

The earthquake and tsunami couldn't have been prevented. Maybe a higher retaining wall? What disappoints me is that now they are saying worker error contributed to the meltdown as a valve was shut off. AS PER THE MANUAL???? And TEPCO is not being fully transparent on this. And being in bed with the government, the population isn't getting the whole truth.

So disappointed? More so with the worker error and lack of info than the accident itself.

How pervasive is Yakuza influence in Japanese Sumo Wrestling?

Question:

Answer:

Hey man, don't call it Sumo wrestling. Because Sumo is not wrestling.
Sumo is Sumo, one and only.

Yakuza's influence? According to the media, their exhibition tours to local cities (Jungyo) have some connections with local Yakuza. Since the regular six Basho are not held except in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka, exhibition tours are very important for the Sumo association to entertain the local people and recruit prospective young boys to the Sumo world. Jungyo itself is a good-will performance, but, as in the case of entertainment world, Yakuza money is reportedly working behind the scene.
