After arrival at the Japan AP procedure step by step?

Question:

I am Malaysian. I will be going to Japan soon. This is my first international flight and I will be going alone. I have my visa done and flight ticket also. heard Japan need a lot of procedure to enter. Is there anyone experienced how was it and would like to share with me?
So, this is my first international flight, what is the next step after I exit the plane and grab my luggage?
Most details and good points will be chosen as best answer.

Answer:

On the airplane the flight crew will give you two forms:

1. Embarkation/Disembarkation form
2. Customs form

Fill out both forms with your information (passport, address etc etc), the forms are in English and Japanese (also Chinese and Korean).

When the airplane lands and the doors open, you proceed to the Immigration line.
Before Immigration there is a health check point, only stop here if you feel sick/need to see a doctor, otherwise, continue walking to the Immigration check point line. You will use the lines that say FOREIGNERS/FOREIGN PASSPORTS

When waiting in line you will be reminded to sign the back of the embarkation/disembarkation form (if you haven't already). If you did not get a form on the airplane, you can get a form while waiting in line and fill one out there.

When you get to the immigration inspector, you give your forms to the inspector with your passport.

They will ask you to look into the machine where it will take your picture and fingerprints. They will take the embarkation/disembarkation card and staple it into your passport. They will also stamp a gray colored stamp called LANDING PERMISSION into your passport. Please leave Japan or renew your visa before the expiration date listed on the LANDING PERMISSION they give you. They will return the passport and customs form to you.

After you leave the immigration area you will now walk to the Customs area. If you have checked luggage (not carry on) you will now pick up your checked luggage from the luggage area. If you have no checked luggage (just carry on) then you can walk strait to the Customs inspector. Give the customs inspector your passport and the customs form. They might ask you a few questions, they might ask to open and search inside your bags, other times they will just wave you through without any check.

After that you exit the customs area and welcome to Japan.

The procedure at the Japanese airport is not very different from the procedure people go through at many other airports in the world. Immigration check --> customs check --> into the country.

Do Japanese men like curvy girls?

Question:

Not "fat" curvy, but Beyonce curvy. Most of the girls I've seen in Japanese are very petite and slender. Truly beautiful. But it makes me worry that maybe guys here aren't into curvier girls since it's not the norm D:

Answer:

It all depends on the guy and if he is just looking at just that and not what is on the inside, then he is not for you.

If the Yakuza is the biggest mafia in the World, why do I always hear Japan is so safe?

Question:

Answer:

Yakuza is NOT the biggset Mafia in the world.
Japan is one of the safest countries in the world.
The Japanese Yakuza do not shoot randomly at innocent bystanders. Gangs in North America(including Canada) do so at will.
Visitors also don't have to fear that their belongings will be stolen, unlike in North America and Cuba.
For these reasons Japan is indeed much safer than many other countries.t
If you forget something somewhere, and someone notices this, he/she will more than likely return your property to you.

Any good Japanese dramas?

Question:

I've been looking for a J-drama to watch. A funny one. When a drama has too much romance, it starts to annoy me. I already watched Hana Kimi and it was good, it had a good balance between comedy and romance. So recommend me some J-dramas. Maybe some K-dramas too. :)

Is one week in Kobe, Japan too long?

Question:

I'm thinking about visiting Kobe, Japan for one week next August. Is there enough to do and see to keep me busy for one week? What do you recommend I visit (I've never been to Japan before)

Answer:

I've never been to kobe, but i'd probably be inclined to say that there is probably a good amount of things to do there in a week.

A little bit of advice. You can pick up a japanese railpass at many travel agents that let you take the bullet train to anywhere in japan. For 1 week its about 300. For first class tickets its about 350. This lets you travel to anywhere in japan that is connected to the shinkansen(bullet train). I highly suggest this, if you want to go for a week. Don't just limit yourself to Kobe. I'm pretty sure you can find some type of hotel in major cities with little planning. Take a look at a frommers travel guide with hotel numbers and pricing.

I also suggest that if you want to go do it in spring time. Winter gets pretty cold. Summer is very humid and hot.

You can probably also take a look in a travel guide to see what there is to do in just kobe, or any other city you may want to visit. Theres tons to do.

hope that helps you.

Which city, Yokohama or Osaka?

Question:

I plan on going through an exchange program next year to japan. I have the choice of going to either meiji gakuin university in yokohama or kansai gaidai university in osaka. Yokohama and Osaka both seem like nice places, i'm not sure which to choose. Has anyone been to both and can tell me which city they enjoyed more? or has anyone been to either of these schools and can tell me their experience? thank you.

Answer:

Yokohama and Osaka are both great cities in Japan and I've enjoyed my time in both cities.

Yokohama is a cool harbour city that is just outside of Tokyo. I love Yokohama for its atmosphere. It is like a smaller version of Tokyo without all the hustle & bustle. Yokohama is famous for its China Town and its bay area for entertainment and restaurants. It also gives you the option of visiting Tokyo which is close by.

Osaka is the food and comedy capital of Japan. It is famous for its great food such as okonomiyaki and takoyaki as well as for its great shopping. Osaka will give you the option of being close by to famous places like Kyoto and Nara which are full of history and traditional culture.

Should I Major in Japanese?

Question:

Should I major in Japanese? O_O Japan is so awesome and I feel like if I don't do it I'll regret it forever...

Answer:

The truth is that with some Japanese language nobody is going to hire you specifically for that - where you are they'd naturally hire a native speaker, or a bilingual person you unfortunately can't compete against and win. And who'd want you in Japan with just that? There's over 125 million Japanese who can do better than you. Pick something companies want - you can minor in Japanese. If you speak 3 needed languages and have a marketable education or skill, you can pretty much write your own ticket.

Sending mail in Japan?

Question:

Hi, I am asking in behalf of my friend.

So while in Japan, she sent a fanletter to her favorite girl group. Checking the artist's website, the website indicated that the address for fanmail only included the postal code (just numbers). This surprised me and my friend because it's our first time to know that only postal code is enough (without street number, etc.). She asked some Japanese and they said that maybe, since this is an artist's agency, the code is "registered". So my friend sent the letter through her university post service and the personnel said if the postal code is indeed not registered, then the mail will be sent back to my friend the week after. Several weeks have passed and my friend has not receive her original mail yet.

Is it now safe to conclude that her mail was sent safely to the artist/address?

Or could it be that it got lost when it was being sent back to her?

Ideas?

Answer:

your friends are correct: famous companies, hotels, and in this case agencies are registered and a street address is not necessary

was it received? most likely.
will she get a reply? depends on what she wrote, the number of fan mail they regularly receive, the artist in question, etc.

In all cases, the agency will screen the mail to eliminate the weirdos, the sick and the obscene. Some artists make a point of responding to every letter they receive but that is not the norm. In general, a "generic" response is sent and this is done by a secretary or an employee of the agency and would likely include an autographed picture or something fairly standard. In rare cases, the artist themselves may review the fan mail and respond but do not set your hopes up...

Tips for an exchange student to Japan?

Question:

I'm going on exchange to Japan soon and stressing out because I feel I'm not prepared. I just hosted a student from Japan and we have become really good friends, and I am going to stay with him while on exchange. He was so organized and prepared he had all his travel documents and English language guides and all these other things which I don't have. His English skills improved immensely to a level way beyond my abilities in Japanese, and I feel there is going to be no one whatsoever that will speak fluent English when I go. And there's also the problem with food, as his family eats fish 3 or 4 times a week. I really hate fish and get stomach aches when I eat the smallest part of any fish. I don't know how to tell organizers of the exchange at school about this, or the family themselves, because i really don't want to disturb the normal meals and routine of the household. If there are any tips to help me with these small problems it would be really appreciated

Answer:

As far as language, I wouldn't stress a ton that his English is better than your Japanese. America is unique (in not a good way) in that our students don't have the option to take any foreign language classes until middle school in some larger school districts and high school in the smaller ones. Most countries teach their children English starting at a young age, when the mind is more open to language skills. If worst comes to worst, ask the other student for help - if his English is as good as you say, he should be a good help.

As for your organization, I would try to get your stuff together as much as possible, but some people are just more organized than others. My best friend recently left for Thailand, and she had all her stuff together months in advance. However, another of my friend's sisters went to Turkey, and she barely had any time.

When it comes to diet, I would say try to adopt the eating habits of the family, but if you really can't adapt and the fish continues to make you sick, talk to whoever does the cooking and ask if there is an alternative you could have. While you are supposed to immerse yourself in the culture, if doing so makes you physically sick... =p

Above all, do your best to stop worrying and stressing out. You will have plenty of time for that when you get there and you're feeling homesick and have culture shock. ...Kidding! But the nerves will most likely be worse when you get there. So try to relax. Trying to force a language down your own throat won't help you learn it. =p

How do you say this in Japanese?

Question:

Hi, can anyone translate this to Japanese?

"Every time I see my friends looking tired, I want to tell them "Otsukaresama!" but they cannot understand Japanese"

I would appreciate it if you could use Kanji but also indicate the hiragana spelling.

Thank you!

Answer:

* I'd say "たいへんねぇ" to people who look tired...
「お疲れ様!」is almost a greeting phrase (for me.)

Can you translate my song into Japanese?

Question:

I just finished writing this song a few minutes ago. It's kind of rock, emo lyrics. Can you please translate into japanese? Thanks <3!!!

As I lie in that dark room
Slitting my wrists (oh)
Crying my heart out
"Because of YOU"

As I lay in this bed
Covered in blood
With a knife in my hand
I cut myself

All that pain, you caused me
All that blood, I wasted
Is going to waste

'Cause it's never gonna be alright (For me and you)
It's never gonna be Alright (Alright, Alright)
'Cause it's never gonna be alright
for you and me
'Cause this is the end
You take my soul
Slowly... I die

All that pain, you caused me
All that blood, I wasted
Is going to waste

'Cause I'm dying tonight
You're taking my soul
As I lie in that dark room
Waiting for you to kill me

'Cause it's never gonna be alright (For me and you)
It's never gonna be alright (Alright)

'Cause I'm crying tonight
You're taking my soul
You hit me, you skin me
You shoot me, you stab me

'Cause it's never gonna be alright (For me and you)
It's never gonna be Alright (Alright, Alright)
'Cause it's never gonna be alright
for you and me
'Cause this is the end
OH! This is the end!
The end of me and you

Answer:

No. Sorry. There are countless ways this could be translated. How would you know which translation gives it the most justice?

What's the difference between Japanese Mayo vs Americans or (Hellman's) Mayo?

Question:

Is the Japanese Mayo the same as the brand from Hellman's or what?

thanks!

Answer:

It's smoother and creamier. I also think it tastes like it's more vinegar based than traditional American mayo. Very tasty when you dip plain rice balls in a little bit of Japanese mayo.
