The popular ritual of modern-day Chamorro barbecuing (which is technically grilling) is relatively recent in Guam history. Chamorro barbecue, as we know it today, began with frequency in the early 1960s when it became easy to purchase packaged meats and poultry. The evolution of ESTUFAO started around 1898 and through out the decades as other culture brought their ingredient to the marinade thus develope a certain dish.
The typical marinade consists of ingredients such as black pepper, onions and vinegar which were introduced shortly after the Americans arrived on Guam in 1898. Other ingredients such as soy sauce were brought later by Japanese merchants, and garlic powder at an even later date in recent times. Red peppers (donne), tuba vinegar (from fermented coconut sap introduced by Filipinos), lemon and green onions became important ways to flavor meat in stews (estufao

Places to visit in Japan? ?

Question:

Ok so seriously, im so tired of temples, Tokyo, and shopping districts. Where are the unique stuff that everyplace has. For example, France has the catacombs and underground opera house. Google keeps turning up the same results for 'unique', 'strange' and interesting places in Japan. So please anybody out there tell me about some cool places in Japan other than where everybody always goes. So no kyoto, tokyo, okinawa, kyushu, onsens, and sapporo! Any help is immensely appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:

What about Otaru in Hokkaido?

Renowned by its glass works, its historical Victorian-style architecture, its canals, its beer and its musical boxes.

While you're there, don't miss Tenguyama.

My Japanese friend's father owns a company in Japan and wants to hire me. I don't have a college degree.?

Question:

Will I still be eligible for a working visa?

Answer:

I think you need a BA / BS degree to qualify for a work visa. This is what the Japanese government requires, not the employer. There maybe exceptions, but I haven't heard of any.
I think the only jobs we can get are those that a Japanese can't or won't do.

Dollar is dollar no matter where you go. It does not change its value.

What are my chances of getting sick from sushi?

Question:

How likely am I to get sick from sushi even at reputable restaurants?

Answer:

You should be fine as long as you avoid supermarket sushi and take-away sushi. I would also recommend eating sushi from a quality restaurant prepared by a professionsl sushi chef.

Professional sushi chefs are trained to recognise important attributes, including smell, colour, firmness, and freedom from parasites that may go undetected in commercial inspections.

How much does it usually cost to go to Japan?

Question:

I love Japan A LOT and reeeaaaally wanna visit there, and I just wanted to know how much it would cost to go there.
The main areas I would like to go to would be Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, and maybe a couple of others depending on the expenses.
I wanted to apply for the 10,000 free trips thing, but people are saying that it starts in April, and that wouldn't be good for me, considering when I go to Japan, I want to go to the Vocaloid concert, which is apparently March 9th. So that idea is ruined for me.
But anyways, I know it would cost really expensive. If you don't know for sure, please atleast take a guess. Thanks!~

Answer:

Depends where you are flying from, and when. You might find something as low as US$800 or up to twice that.
Try looking at sites like www.kayak.com and www.mobissimo.com for some cheaper fares, as well as looking at some of the airline websites directly, which may have some bargains going. Be careful to check it with all the costs and taxes - there are some scammy deals where the airfare is $200 but the taxes and fuel surcharge kick in another $700 or so.
Just remember that you get what you pay for - the cheap-o tickets often have the most restrictions, like no refund if you must cancel, no chance or high costs to make a date change, and so on. And if you book through one of the online agencies like Expedia, Trouble City, Orbitz etc, pray you don't have to make a change - they just try to foist you onto the airlines where you can waste half an hour on hold just to have them tell you the change must be done through the issuing agency, which is correct.

Shinjuku to Ginza by train?

Question:

If I take the train is it far? How long will it take?

Answer:

Google tells you how to get to there.
Google Map http://maps.google.co.jp/

If you can read Japanese, Yahoo!Japan provides you more effective ways like below:
http://transit.loco.yahoo.co.jp/search/r…
http://transit.loco.yahoo.co.jp/search/r…

Anyway, I usually use Marunouchi-line of Tokyo Metro. It takes about 20 to 30 mins.
You can use JR line. But you have to transfer at Kanda (or Tokyo) and the station is Yurakusho=有楽町, not Ginza=銀座.

Do Japanese idols like Korean groups and the whole hallyu wave or do they just act like they do?

Question:

Answer:

I thanks most, behind closed doors, don't like the Hallyu wave - because as I was reading an article in Yahoo! Japan a few days ago, some japanese record company workers were not happy because there is no way they can compete with the Kpop bands that have gained so much popularity in Japan.

So it would be like British artist's being the hot thing in the US, and American artists themsleves not being able to go anywhere. I don't think I'd like it either.

Why are items from Japan so expensive?

Question:

Cos I brought a DVD box set from Japan that cost me $270.
Why is it so expensive?

Answer:

1. High prices to begin with.
2. The killer yen which makes it even worse.
3. Competition (or the lack thereof).

You didn't say what item exactly, but transport and selling of items in Japan with high fuel costs/taxes and high rents drives things way up. So does Japan's insanely byzantine and bloated distribution system. And the fact that you didn't pay less somewhere else shows that you are willing to pay through your nose for what you want, like many others.
