Japanese please help?

Question:

1.watashiwa piano o hikimasu kotoga dekimasu
2.watashiwa piano o hiku kotoga dekimasu
are they the same meaning ? both correct grammar ?

Answer:

I once replied before you post this again.

2. is correct. "be able to+ a bare verb" in English is adapted "a bare verb + kotoga dekimasu" in Japanese.

If translate the former, perhaps it'll be like "I'm be able to I play the piano."
Sounds unnatural.

Someone else advised you to change "o" to "wo".

Warm regards,

Does anyone know what this Japanese symbol is?

Question:

It's usually on lanterns and red.

http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-13688041/stock-photo-row-of-traditional-japanese-lanterns-under-the-wooden-temple-roof.html

Answer:

It's called "Mitsudomoe"(= triple Tomoe) , and it's hard to explain what the symbol is.
According to wikipedia
-Mitsudomoe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsudomoe
-Tomoe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomoe

There are two kinds of the symbol. Spinning clockwise and anti-clockwise. I don't know what is the differences, though.

How much is the minimum hour rate in japan as of july, 2011?

Question:

Answer:

Firstly it depends on a prefecture. Tokyo has a high minimum wage that's relatively high, and Osaka as well. Generally, those prefectures in which big cities are located have higher minimum wages than rural prefectures.
The absolute minimum that's set by the government is something like 650 yen/hr, which is like seven bucks, but people don't work under that kind of wage. Where I come from, which is Kagawa prefecture, a very rural prefecture in Shikoku, highschool kids who work at Mcdonald's get paid something like 750 yen/hr which would be 8 bucks. And Mcdonald's + highschool means the worst pay so 750 yen would be the lowest in the region.

And I don't actually think 750 yen isn't bad considering all they do is just fry beef pates and refilling a soda fountain. Even if you aren't a student anymore, if you work 6 hours a day and 20 days a month, then you'll get 6 * 20 * 750 = 90000. It will be a little less after tax and pension payments and what not but if you live with parents then this is more than enough. You can even save some money. Of course it isn't a real job though.

V Okinawa is the poorest of all prefectures, and no one wants that kind of wage in the main land, I think. During a highschool vacation I worked at a post office for 740 yen/hr and that was like the absolute worst, even in Shikoku.

I was reading this news article reporting that one is much better off living on welfare than working with the minimum wage, and that Kanagawa is the prefecture in which the welfare payments exceeds the minimum wage most. However the minimum wage in Kanagawa is 820 yen, which is itself is a good amount for partimers in rural regions and probably inconceivable for a highschool kid in Okinawa. And it says the average minimum wage in all prefectures is 730 yen, so there's something wrong with Okinawa. It's not a place I want to move to.

Is it farfetched me to to think that I can live in Japan?

Has anyone been to an "Izakaya" Japanese restaurant? Is it good?

Question:

I heard these Japanese drinking/snack establishments are gaining popularity outside of Japan.

Answer:

The idea of Izakaya is not new nor is it unique to Japan.

A Izakaya is very much like the old neighborhood bar or cafe. They range widely from cheap rundown to very cozy hidden gems. Depending on the owner, they can be a bit reserved or not as welcoming to total strangers because their main clienteles are longtime patrons - some even going back a couple of generation or more.

Speaking for myself, I enjoyed the food of the ones I've gone to but the drinking can be a bit excessive. The Japanese are heavy drinkers, and the Izakaya is a place for both drinking and eating - smoking, too.

Good Korean, Japanese, Chinese, songs/rap for JYP audition?

Question:

I am asian, but I don't look like it, so i'm really hoping to wow the judges with a korean or japanese song, so they know that talent should be chosen instead of looks, and that just because I don't look asian, doesn't mean I can't sing any asian songs. So, any AMAZING songs recommendation? I would also really like it if there is a good rap in it. ( I will be trying out for rap, but my singing it better than my rap. Please NO SNSD, 4 minute, or groupy songs. I need a solo, it can be modern or classic, but I also need a song that will truly show my voice. And like I said, a rap song would be nice too. . . and if you want, you can put in a chinese song.

How often does Japan receives earthquakes?

Question:

I want to go to Japan for at least 1 month vacation but I'm nervous about possible earthquakes.

Is there a certain time of the year where Japan receives less or no earthquakes at all?

Answer:

Japan gets an average of 1000 earthquakes a year. Since there are only 365 days in the year, that means Japan gets an average of 2-3 earthquakes PER DAY. Therefore, you have to deal with the possibility that you will have at least one earthquake while you are in Japan or you have to decide not to go to Japan. After all, earthquakes aren't like hurricanes and tornadoes -- there is no such thing as "earthquake season." Now having said all of that, you need to be aware that Japan is a pretty big place all things considered and that just because an earthquake happens in a particular place in Japan doesn't mean the entire country feels it (e.g. plenty of places didn't even feel the 9.0 earthquake on March 11) and most of the earthquakes that happen in Japan are too small to be felt by humans anyway. Earthquakes like the massive March 11 quake are very rare. The first time I was in Japan I was there for over one month and only felt one earthquake. The second time I was there for three weeks and never felt a single quake. I felt a bunch while living there, but considering I was there for a full year that isn't a surprise at all.

So yeah, when it comes to Japan and quakes, you either accept that you're going to a very quake-prone area and deal with it or you don't go.

Congratulations Japan!?

Question:

Hey guys and gals. I'm planning on going to Sapporo (Capital city of Hokkaido, Japan).
I don't know wether to go for 1 week or 2. I'm going to be staying with a friend who is Japanese.
I want to do the touristy stuff and experience the local side of life as well.

So, do you think a week is enough or would 2 be better? It kinda seems like a long way to go (from England) just for a week. (expense is not a problem).

Thanks in advance :)

Does snsd has an influence in Japan?

Question:

I honestly think the korean media are exaggerating their succe but does SNSD have an influnece in Japan?
read this article

From SNSD’s First Japanese Tour Concert at the Yoyogi Stadium to their popularity on the streets of Japan, Mnet captured SNSD’s Hallyu effect on Japan through their program, ‘BOOM the K-POP‘.

An Mnet production crew member revealed,

“We will be exhibiting SNSD’s charms – which have deeply affected the lifestyles of the youngsters in Japan – by meeting with Japanese people of all ages, both male and female, in Japanese cultural centers such as Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, and Shinokubu.“

This program will air in two segments. The first segment broadcasted on July 14th with the title, “Do you know SNSD?“. This episode focused on seeing how popular SNSD was in Japan and why the Japanese people have come to like SNSD.

The second segment, which will air on July 21st, will run under the title, “Right now is SNSD!“; it will focus on SNSD’s Japanese fan culture and SNSD’s power in changing the lifestyles of Japanese girls in their 20’s.

Answer:

Yes kpop is a trend now
but I think like most trends they come and go and the other one lasts longer than the other
kpop isnt really anything unique or special..Jpop I think is way better.
oh and if kpop is populair its among teens who are obsessed, rarely 20s
teens have their fases which they grew out of and develope the next one.
just like bi sexuality, emo, gothic, punk, anime geeks learning japanese, kpop obsessed learning korean 99% of the time its a fase.
I know some teenage japanese who like kpop and obsess about it(which usually drives off after a while)
but I think most people in their 20s have passed the being obsessed over an idol fase.
anyway yes its exagerated.

How often to foreigners get abducted in Japan?

Question:

I'm planning to go to Japan this year, and my mom watched some thing about people being abducted into slavery, and now she thinks that she'll never see me again because I'm a redhead and there's NO WAY I won't be abducted. I'm not too worried about it myself, seeing as how I'm finding absolutely nothing about it, but how likely is it for me to get abducted, if I'm staying around Tokyo? Is there any way to get a statistic on this, just to give her peace of mind?

Answer:

You and your mum need to stop watching telly and read a book or something, educate yourselves, see life as it really is without TV filtering your perception, you know - think for yourself.
I can hear the sound of brain cell atrophy.................

Reserved or Non-reserved Shinkansen?

Question:

Reserve or non-reserved seat?
Hi, so I'm going to Kyoto--> Tokyo and back in August 5. I wonder if I should have a reserved seat or non-reserved seat.

I'm thinking that if I have a non-reserved seat, even if I miss the train, I can just hop on the next one. But if I reserve, once I miss it, I'm screwed.

However, I think around this date would be Obon...

but...non-reserved is cheaper! :(

Answer:

I recommend you to reserve a seat.
Because Nozomi has fewer non-reserved seats than reserved seats.
And you if you miss the train, you can get a non-reserved seat without additional fare.

If you want cheaper seat, you can use Hikari or Kodama, slower and cheaper services of Shinkansen.

Visas for PR in Japan?

Question:

Japan is a dear country to me and I was wondering what types of visas there are that let become a PR (Perm. Resident). I know you can live there with a work visa, but what kinds if jobs do Americans typically get in Japan? Besides teaching jobs. Thanks.

Answer:

You usually need working or student visa to live in Japan.

For working visa, you have to get a job offer from a Japanese company. But you can't look for a job in Japan without a visa. So you need it before you enter Japan.

For student visa, you have to be admitted to a Japanese college. You need to pay tuition and living cost for 4 years. It could be about $100,000.

If you want to become a Japanese citizen, you have to keep living in Japan for more than 5 years without a pause. Then, you will be eligible to apply for citizenship. But you need more like stable income, sufficient reason, Japanese language skill and so on if you want your application to be accepted.

You can apply for Permanent Residence of Japan under the same condition. And this is relatively easier than citizenship.

Japanese gift giving?

Question:

This summer I have been living in Japan and working in a research laboratory at Saitama University. I go back to the USA in just two weeks. (I'm quite sad! Japan has been an amazing experience!) Everyone that I've worked with in my lab has been so great, I would like to leave them with some sort of gift before I leave. I would also like to give my mentor an individual gift, as well as the head of the lab. Does anyone have any suggestions? Food seems to be really appreciated, so maybe I could find some nice baked goods or something for my lab. And as for my mentor and the head of my lab, could I do something like a nice bottle of sake? (And if so, what kind of sake?)

Answer:

Generally, food and sake are good present.
I think you have to get know what type or brand sake does your mentor like.
Everyone has their own favorites.

There are some local sake in Saitama, like 神亀 , 花陽浴, 織星 and so on.
That might be good for the people live in Saitama.

Can a 14 year old legally buy a plane or boat ticket to Tokyo, Japan? (With a parent)?

Question:

I'm a 14 year old boy that is fascinated by the Japanese culture and futuristic urban area of Tokyo, I really want to know if I have all legal rights in order...(Passports, etc...), if I could go to Japan {guardian will board the plane with me}. Plus what is the safest airline or boat liner to travel on, and how much money would it be to stay in a good hotel and eat at a good resturaunt? Also I want to know how much tickets would cost. I also know a little Japanese but I will improve by the time I get the money to travel. Finally I want to know how much it would be for two 14 years olds and a parent.

Answer:

You can rule out boats. They're at least double what a plane will be. Airfare will be in the $1,200 - $1,500 range for each person.
A trip to Japan for three people ? For one week, at least $5,000+.

Does AKB48 ever sings live?

Question:

They lip-sync in all their so-called "performances" I saw at youtube? Do they EVER sing live? Do they know how to sing at all?!? LOL

Same as SKE48

Answer:

Yes they sing live. They have their own performance hall in Akihabara, Tokyo. They often have concerts there, nearly everyday in the week I think.

However I don't think they lip sing everything. On their own TV shows they tend to lip-sync more, whereas in concerts and live arenas, I think they actually sing more.

Personally I think they don't know how to sing and are only chosen because of their 'cuteness' or something. But yeah.
