In what way did Zen Buddhism affect the Samurai and Daimyo class in Japan?

Question:

Answer:

There is no such thing as Zen Buddhism. Zen is a religious philosophy and a way of meditation mainly practiced by Buddhist monks and artists. By practicing Zen, monks wrote many books and artists produced a variety of arts, including Shodo, Chado and Kado that are still alive today as traditional culture of Japan.

On the other hand, samurai were warriors (military); they were not interested in religious practice. Samurai studied Confucianism and Bushido as their code of conduct which emphasizes
「君に忠、親に孝、自らを節すること厳しく、
下位の者に仁慈を以てし、敵には憐みをかけ、
私欲を忌み、公正を尊び、富貴よりも名誉を以て貴しとなす」。
You don't need to understand this Japanese. But my point is that Zen, as a religious philosophy and a way of meditation, did not have much impact on Samurai and Daimyo class, but Confucianism and Bushido did.

Question:

Were the first Japanese people Chinese from 200BC?

Question:

Michio Kaku stated somewhere that the first Japanese people were sent from China under the orders of Emperor Qin to find the fountain of youth in 200BC. Is this true? Actually to be fair I don't think he stated this conclusively but rather I think he said something like "The first Japanese MAY have been..."

Answer:

I heard the same story and actually watched a documentary that mentioned it. A descendent of the official appointed to find the fountain of youth was interviewed. As far as whether the Japanese originated from China, it is important to know that there are 3 different ethnicities in Japan; the Ainu in Hokkaido from Siberia, The Ryukuyans in Okinawa from Austronesia, and the Japanese Japanese who are of Sino-Korean origin which means they came from China/Korea. Also, my mom told me that most Japanese who have dry earwax share this recessive trait with the Chinese and Koreans while the Ainu tend to have the wet variety, so this means that the Japanese, Chinese and Koreans must come from common ancestors. read the link in the source to find out more.

Which city in Japan should I go to if it's my first time going ?

Question:

I love the country Japan and hope to visit someday and my parents said for my sweet sixteen next year maybe my party could be mom, maybe one friend, and I going to Japan and I couldn't be more ecstatic about it even though it's a maybe! The problem is, where should we go? I know Tokyo is a tourist attraction but which part of Japan is really nice for foreigners like us? lol

Also we have a disadvantage? My mom doesn't know any secondary language and the only one I know is Spanish. (I'm forced to take Spanish at my school, they don't give us many options.) so should we get a tourist guide? :3 someone please help me with the info to make my dreams come true? :)

Answer:

Well I would start in Osaka. You can fly into KIX. In Osaka you can enjoy modern shopping, some of the best food in Japan and enjoy Osaka Castle.

From Osaka it is a very short train ride to visit Kyoto. Kyoto is home to the largest and widest variety of Shrines and Temples in the whole of Japan. Kinkakuji, Ryoanji, Ginkakuji, and Nijo-jo are just to name a few.

Nara is also a short train ride away and you can visit the deer park and hand feed real deer with biscuits you can buy from vendors in the park. You can also visit Todaiji another famous temple.

I say jump at the chance. Nobody knows when you will get another chance to go. Life can get busy later and there is always a reason not to go like school, work, language , relationships the list goes on forever. If someone is willing to take you don't give it a second thought just accept and go!

Study some basic words like Konnichiwa (Hello), Arigatou (Thank you), and O-kudasai (Please give me) . With these three words you can survive Japan. With more you can have an even better time. Many English tours can be booked or you would be surprised how well you can do without speaking just pointing at pictures on a menu say "Okudasai" and food will be on it's way. Some people can speak a little English and in tourist areas more can speak English.

p.s. the best times to visit Japan in my opinion are Spring (Early April to maybe see Cherry Blossoms) or Autumn. Summer is hot and Humid and Winter is very cold especially in Kyoto it may snow.

When did Japan first become an imperialist power by gaining control?

Question:

Answer:

Whenever Japanese nobles had financial problems, one possible solution was plundering the Koreans. In 1592 Japanese invaders cut off the noses and ears of Korean aristocrats and deposited their "souvenirs" in the "Nose and Ear Shrine" in Japan. Since then on every birthday of the shrine Korea officially is protesting against that day to be celebrated.

Do you find Japanese a hard language to learn?

Question:

I find it very interesting, but learning Kanji and how to pronounce things properly and fluently seems to be hard. How long would it take to become somewhat fluent in Japanese?

Answer:

Hi, I'm a foreigner and I learned Japanese in Japan. I learned German throughout college, and couldn't speak a word of Japanese when I got here. (not very bright, but oh well...)

You'd be surprised how easy it is to get the hang of spoken Japanese. Now I know living in Japan is good incentive to learn, but even taking classes in the USA, if you make an effort at daily practice, you will be speaking on a basic level within a few weeks. Fluency could be expected in a years time with serious study, and with a more casual program of study, it will take much longer. Living in the country while studying hard, one to two years and you will have BASIC fluency.
Some Americans/English who come to Japan don't study and never learn Japanese. So you can live here 10 years and never learn Japanese--don't think living here means you automatically pick it up, because you still have to make an effort.

"Basic fluency" means that you can handle everyday conversations, like ordering food, asking for directions, greeting people and asking about their health, being able to understand announcements on the train, etc.

To go beyond the basic level, then yes, you need to learn how to read Japanese, and the system of writing. Hiragana and Katakana as you learn them help you learn correct pronunciation. But Japanese pronunciation is very easy. But you will have only a child's vocabulary if you do not learn the words that come from Kanji, and how to read Kanji.
The standard list of Kanji, Joyo, has 1,987 characters if I'm not mistaken. From the mixing of those characters and different readings, come the majority of words in the Japanese language. This will take several years of study, but it can be done.

And like I said, basic fluency, which will get you around in Japan, can be acquired relatively easily. Higher-level understanding and ability will take more time. But not impossible.

What are some pro's and con's of the Immigration Act of 1924?

Question:

Thanks in advance!

Answer:

This established U.S. immigration policy for almost 50 years. It ended the problem over European immigrants dating back to 1890s. It put quotas on immigrants and tried to end any immigrants from southern European countries as racially inferior and posed a threat to the nation's future. It also ended any Japanese immigrants (some referred to it as the Japanese exclusion Act. Beginning in 1927 a quota of 150,000 immigrant were allowed in the U.S. July 1, 1924, was declared a national day of mourning in Tokyo by the newspapers. This helped make things worse between the U.S. and Japan in the period before WW2.

How did America win WWII?

Question:

I know allies played a major role, but what did America do to help win the war. More than one example please

Answer:

1. Defeated Japan (the Pacific Theater is something that only the United States can say it won, they were the only country with enough people to contribute enough troops to fight the Japanese almost alone.)
2. They contributed thousands of troops to the European Theater, including those that fought alongside the British and Canadians at Normandy.
3. Even before joining the war, the United States was selling and later giving war equipment to the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and all of the other allies. The war gave many people in the United States jobs in factories and in the army after the Great Depression.

How did Bushido affect modern Japanese culture?

Question:

plz help...thank you

Answer:

The same code of ethics and discipline is used today in Japan in business and politics. Bushido has also been incorporated into the martial arts programs.

After World War Two, a new warrior rose from the ashes of the Japanese Soldier. Business families called Zaibatsu’s were the new keepers of the Bushido Code. Loyalty to the company became a new value in the modern world. A more popular Zaibatsu that you may know is Mitsubishi. Also, after being caught in the act of corruption, several Japanese officials have been reported to resign their postions in government. Another example of Bushido today is how many Japanese martial arts still name their schools after the Bushido code. This can be seen as an attempt to promote the values of the warrior.

Which are the 10 safest citys and which are the 10 most dangerous citys?

Question:

Answer:

About all the same. No worries.

What do you think of this?

Question:

I'm sort of tired of people calling people who like Japan/Japanese culture "weaboos(sp?)" and "mainstream". Yes, I'm aware a lot of people lately have seemed to take an interest in Japan and yes I know people who are clearly not Japanese wish they were born Japanese are annoying. My point is though if I actually have a genuine interest in the culture and language (and no, I'm not going to even bother lying--I love the pop culture as well i.e. manga, anime, Vocaloid) than I don't see why I have to be grouped with people who are just doing it to fit in and/or actually want to change their race. A lot of people I know are like "you'll grow out of it"--but I'm wondering if they would be saying that if it was any other culture other than Japanese. Would that change things? If I were to love France I'm thinking they probably wouldn't have a problem with that and everyone would think it was perfectly okay. >.< What are your thoughts on this?

Answer:

I do not see any problem with having an interest in Japanese culture or language. If there really are people who pretend and act as if they are Japanese and are not, that is their own business and shouldn't be judged. I also enjoy manga and anime and have done 2 years of japanese language and have never been told Im weird. In my small high school in New Zealand almost everyone likes the Japanese culture and has read a manga comic or two. I hope this is the sort of opinion you were looking for.

I want to go to Japan for six months, I need to know where to start.?

Question:

My husband is deploying sometime after April, I would like to do a language immersion course of study in Japan for my bachelors degree in Japanese. I have two young children, so I would be bringing my mother as a dependent to take care of my kid's while I was in school. But I don't even know where to start (Except of course getting a passport). I am very financially stable and receive Military BAH (Basic housing allowance) while my husband will be gone.

I would like to know where to start, Student visa, possibly for me? Six months is quite awhile, and perhaps a dependent visa for my mother, but I'm not sure if my information is correct about either of these things.

I could really use some help, just the whole process from start to finish. Where do I apply? Can I even apply with my mother? can I bring my kids? What types of Passports/Visa's do I need?
Thank you so much for any sincere answers, I really appreciate it.

Did lots of disease spread after world war 2?

Question:

I am pretty sure that that disease spread though soldiers that were moving from and to one country to another.

Answer:

WW2 medical practices prevented the worst disease problems among troops- unlike the WW1 flu epidemic. Penicillin and Sulfa drugs developed during war were available for various problems- including the STDs. troop illness relatively low-- the illness on civilians after war depended a lot on countries economic condition- England got a lot of medical staff and stuff for military made available to civilians, losing Germans on eastern zone missed medicine except for black market, Poland in similar situation as minimal medicine available except through russians who were a little short. Austria and Italy got some of current medicine open and black market. French Algeria had endemic plague and depended on quarantine and sulfas- Camus wrote a book about it 1948. japan had occupation medical backup- US worried about disease and civil unrest- but populace practiced hygiene measures to reduce incidents and a lot of potential disease areas had been incinerated in firebomb raids. Japanese troops with disease potential- a lot of them already killed. Decease spread less by troops except eastern front-- and then it was the infrastructure destruction that let a lot of endemic illness turn into epidemics like typhus in camps.

What probably would have happened differently if Hitler didn't declare war on the USA?

Question:

why he did this? (As many think this was a really stupid mistake due to the problems Roosevelt was having getting the American public to support a war with Germany...here they say Hitler helped America join the war against Germany by at least 2 years.since it would take that long to talk congress, etc into mobilizing for war against Germany)

Answer:

It is doubtful that America would have voluntarily entered the war with Germany, although Truman had been trying to get Congress to respond to American casualties in the Atlantic. However, the general mood may well have been that America had it's own war to worry about after Pearl Harbour and, while continueing with lend lease, may have balked at borrowing trouble from Europe, which many see as localised tribal warfare.

So assuming that America stayed out, it is likely that Russia would have defeated Hitler. This may have taken slightly longer, since Britain may not have been able to launch a second front onto the continent and may have gone via Italy. This means that Russia would have conquered all of Europe.

It is doubtful that America would have entered a conflic with Russia following this. Although American troops would have had recent experience against the Japanese, fighting the Russians is another matter.

Russian tank development was significantly greater than the Americans. The Sherman, although making sence economically and logistically, was a piece of junk when comparered to the T34/85. Trying to go toe to toe with an IS II or IS III would have been embaressing, since these vehicles were comparable to the heavy German equipment. In fact, the IS III was probably better than the Konigstiger.

During the Normandy Landings, the allies enjoyed air superiority. America fighting against Russia would face a determined and skilled enemy with viable air cover. In short, America may have found itself outclassed and outgunned if it tried to attack Russian territories in Europe.

Should America wish to liberate the West from Russian dictatorship, given it's 1940s/50s load out of armour and planes, the use of Nuclea weopons in order to secure teritory and eliminate Russian arms seems very likely.

So overall, America probably would have polished off the Japs and stayed home, leaving Europe to the Russians.

Would it be better for an American to live in Russia or Japan?

Question:

I am more dark complected so dont know if they would look to as an American unless they asked but...

I fairly decent in my japanese and recently started learning russian. Id really only want to visit one of them and though i know prejudice is all around which place would i find more friendly.

Not to say that one is better than the other since they are special in their own regards :) but i just want to know your opinion. Right now im in ohio (if that matters).

Answer:

Hi. In 2002, I was deciding between Russia and Japan. I chose Japan. Although I love Russian culture, and the language. Japan turned out to be a good choice. But let me explain some things:

1. There is much more racism in Russia. There are Neo-nazis and ethnic violence in Russia. Especially against non-whites or people from the Caucausus
2. There is much more violence in Russia. The cops will kill you, the gangs will kill you, alcoholism is rampant, and the mafia runs many parts of the country.
3. Did I mention the Nazis? You are dark complected and American: two things they do not like.

Sorry, Russia really is a fascinating place, and you may have no problems there, but from a safety standpoint and racism, I'd say Japan is much better.

Let me put it this way: even the USSR in 1980 was a safer place to visit than present-day Russia. And that is scary.

What were the air battles of WWII other than the battle of Britain?

Question:

I'm doing a project on WW2 bomber planes and need to know which battles were the ones where the airforce was highly involved other than the battle of Britain and Pearl Harbour
Thanks

Answer:

The air war over France before the fall of France.
In the air, the Allies were numerically inferior: the French Armee de l'Air had 1,562 aircraft, and RAF Fighter Command committed 680 machines, while RAF Bomber Command could contribute some 392 aircraft to operations. Most of the Allied aircraft were obsolete types, such as the Morane-Saulnier M.S.406 In the fighter force, only the British Hawker Hurricane and the French Dewoitine D.520 could contend with the German Messerschmitt Bf 109, the D.520 having better manoeuvrability although being slightly slower. Unfortunately, on 10 May 1940, only 36 D.520 fighters had been dispatched, all to one squadron. In fighter aircraft, the Allies had the numerical advantage; 836 German Bf 109s against 81 Belgian, 261 British and 764 French fighters of various types. The French and British also had larger aircraft reserves. In early June 1940, the French aviation industry had reached a considerable output, with an estimated matériel reserve of nearly 2,000 aircraft.
However, a chronic lack of spare parts crippled this fleet. Only 29% (599) of the aircraft were serviceable, of which 170 were bombers. Low serviceability meant the Germans had a clear numerical superiority in medium bomber aircraft.

I need at least 15 reasons with the date included up to the japanese internment.
Need for school tomorrow please help!

Xenophobia and panic on the part of the general US population following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor - every Japanese American was thereafter viewed as a saboteur or spy (despite there being zero evidence to support these ideas).President Roosevelt,no less prone to these feelings than the average American, acted by issuing Executive Order 9066 that led to those people of Japanese ancestry who live along or near the West coast being interned for the duration of the war.

What are some essentials I need for Asian cooking?

Question:

Hey all.
I recently got more interested in cooking Asian food, and starting in the new year I want to make sure that I have enough stuff on hand to make new foods without having to run to the supermarket.
What are some of the essential items- particularly sauces, spices, etc that I should have in my cupboard and on hand that are common (and preferably cheap) in Asian cooking?

Answer:

The key to Asian cooking is using the right ingredients. The following are the essential sauces needed for your pantry to make Japanese and Asian food.

1. Kikkoman Soy Sauce: Soy Sauce comes in both normal and light varieties. Light soy is best for vegetable dishes or noodles. Darker soy is best for dipping sauces. Try dark soy with a little minced ginger or chopped red chilli for a great dipping suace.

2. Mizkhan Mirin: Japanese cooking rice wine. Is used extensively in hotpots such as nikujyaga, nimono and teriyaki.

3. Mizkhan Rice Vinegar: This is a sushi rice essential. It can also be used to make ponzu sauce by adding soy, cooking sake and a bit of dashi.

4. Yeo`s Pure Sesame Oil: The nutty roasted flavour is the secret to great Asian Cooking. Sprinkle a little in soups, broths, stir-fries, meat dishes and noodles or add to dumpling fillings. It is also great in salad dressings and marinades.

5. Kewpie Mayonnaise: This iconic Japanese mayonnaise with its extra-creamy rich flavour is a household favourite in Japan and is now sold in most western supermarkets. It is perfect with sushi, seafood or chicken.

6. ABC Chilli Sauce: This Indonesian chilli sauce is a distinctive blend of chillies, garlic and sugar. It is a great all-rounder. Try it with grilled seafood, as a glaze for roast chicken , in fried rice and noodles, or o its own as a dipping sauce.

7. Lee Kum Kee Panda Oyster Sauce: Lee Kum Kee invented Oyster sauce in 1888, and its Panda brand is renowned for its great taste, smooth texture and appetising aroma. Use this classic sauce as a marinade, in stir fries, or as an everyday dipping sauce.

How do you make Osechi Ryori?

Question:

I want to make it for new years but not sure how. Can someone tell me how they make there's? Can you also add in things like, 'A cup of butter.' And how much people it makes it for?

Answer:

Kohaku Namasu (red and white salad)
INGREDIENTS

1/3 of a large daikon
1/2 medium carrot (thick part)
1 tsp salt

DRESSING:
2 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tbsp water
Dressing:
5 tbsp rice vinegar
1/2 tbsp mirin
4 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt

Kohaku means red and white, and signifies happiness and celebration in Japanese culture. This simple salad is served during Oshogatsu, the New Year’s holiday celebration.

Cut the daikon and carrot into sengiri, or thin julienne. Sprinkle with 1 tsp salt, and let sit for 20 minutes. The vegetables will release quite a bit of water. Drain, and squeeze as much liquid as possible. If this step is not taken, the water will dilute the dressing. Squeezing this extra moisture also leads to a crunchier texture and more intense flavor.

Combine the vegetables with the remaining ingredients. The salt from the previous step should be enough, however, it depends on how much is lost when squeezing the moisture. Therefore, taste before serving. If needed, add 1/4 tsp more. Chill for at least 30 minutes to combine the flavors. Serve mounded in the center of communal bowls, or in small containers placed in a jubako.

Leftovers keep for a few days in the fridge, staying remarkably fresh and crunchy.Serves 6-8

Tazukuri (sardines simmered in mirin)
INGREDIENTS

1.06 ounces / 30 gomame (dried sardines)
1 1/2 tablespoons dashi
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp sugar
2 tsp mirin
White sesame seeds for garnish

Part of the traditional Oshogatsu menu of preserved osechi-ryori items, this dish can keep almost indefinately. However, the sweet, sticky and slightly crunchy tiny fish are usually quickly gobbled up, Dried sardines are simmered in mirin and sprinkled with sesame seeds. They symbolize a bountiful harvest, (sardines were once used as fertilizer) and literally translates as “making rice fields”. Full of calcium, this dish is great for strong bones. Shown served in a contemporary stoneware oblong bowl.

In a heavy skillet, dry roast the sardines until they soften. Remove from the skillet, and add the dashi, soy sauce, sugar and mirin. Bring to a boil, and immediately return the sardines to the skillet. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the sardines caramelize. They will be very sticky.

Spread the sardines out on a cookie sheet and sprinkle with toasted white sesame seeds. Serve mounded in the center of small communal bowls.Serves 6-8

Renkon no Sunomono (lotus root vinegared salad)
INGREDIENTS

1 6-8 inch piece of renkon

DRESSING:
3 tbsp su (rice vinegar)
2 tbsp sake
1 tbs water
½ tbs salt

I like to prepare this beautiful salad during Oshogatsu, the New Year’s holiday celebration. The lotus is an important symbol in Buddhism, and this dish reminds us to keep on the path to enlightenment.

Wash the renkon well in water, scrubbing with a sponge, removing any brown spots. You should have a creamy white root. If not, peel with a vegetable peeler. Slice into paper thin slices, and soak in boiling water fro 1 minute. This will serve to partially parboil them, yet will retain their crunchy texture.

Combine the remaining ingredients and chill the renkon slices overnight. To serve, garnish with a few thin slices of lemon rind. The photo shows tobiko, which I used for color, but lemon compliments the flavor better. Serve in an attractive communal bowl.
This keeps for up to a week in the refrigerator.Serves 6

Why do people from all over the world stereotype so much?

Question:

I'm German and whenever people from other countries want to offend me they mention "the past".
I don't take it that hard and I can take a joke . Trust me I can,I'm going out with an English lol
But sometimes it can be annoying and even a bit painful.
Because people always have that certain image . I'm not saying everyone ,but some still do.
What do you think ?

Answer:

I had the same issue when I was abroad. for some funny reason, it's only the English-speaking people who're like that though - no Russian/Polish/Spanish/Italian/Japanese will bring that up, not even the French.

I'm saying 'not even the French' because some argue that Brits, and Americans, are making these obnoxious 'jokes' not only because WWII was the last war they had (and won), but also because they felt indignated by the Germans attacking them, the great colonial power - according to the latter theory, it would not only be the UK and the States, but also the French. And though some (older) French might make a few mean coments towards Germans, it's usually very rare and most not-so-old people will in fact be reall nice.

which, again, brings us back to only the Brits and Americans (and Canadians& Australians, but they're more American/British than they think, aren't they) making these 'funny' remarks.

i think it's mostly arrogance and national chauvinism. and idiocy, for some.

just don't let them pull your leg too hard - if they get really annyoing, tell them (don't get super-upset, but say it matter-of-factly) because some might not even realize they are being rude.

just don't let them bug you too much, otherwise they will never stop (trust me on that one..)

In Japan, are there stalls in the market where they sell fried cockroaches and other insects just like in ....?

Question:

Thailand?

I intend to take trip to learn more about this and include this trip account in a book I will work on when the occasion allows it (since I'm now too busy for it).

I know that insect consumption is widespread in some Asian countries, such as Thailand.

But I would like to know if that's also the case in Japan. (Because if it is, I will choose Japan for my destination rather than Thailand).

Answer:

No.

You can eat insects in Japan, but they're not usually sold at any stalls.

Grasshoppers are common enough that most people in Japan know that they're eaten. You can sometimes find them at a normal grocery store.

Bea larvae are a specialty, cooked in rice. It can be expensive.

I've never heard of cockroaches being eaten in Japan.

Japan doesn't do the market stall thing too much. You can find food stalls at festivals, but they sell things like chocolate-covered bananas, takoyaki, okonomiyaki, fries, baked potatoes, grilled squid, etc.

Do they teach American history in Japan?

Question:

I was wondering if they teach American history in Japan because I know they have English classes?

Answer:

We learn English as an international language; not as American language. This is true not only in Japan, but in all of the European and Asian countries.
People all over the world do not care about the US and Americans as you may expect.

Edit:
Yes, we learn a little bit about American history in our world history class.
We learn about your "founding fathers" and the war of independence with the British. We learn about President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation and the Civil War, the Great Depression in 1929 and the New Deal by President F.D. Roosevelt, US carpet bombing all over Japan, including two A-bombs during wwii, McCarthyism in the 1950's, Assasination of J.F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech and the Civil Rights Movement, etc. But that is just part of our study on world history in high school in Japan.
What do you learn about Japanese history in your high school in the US?

Differences between mochi and manju?

Question:

So, it seems to me that there are just about a million different Japanese confections called mochi (the product of inaccurate translation I assume). I understand that mochi is a dough made predominately from glutinous rice flower and is opaque. What I'm trying to figure out is the proper names of a few different mochi or manju related confections and what the differences between them are. Specifically between two different manju-esque treats.

One is opaque, often times dusted with powdered sugar or kinako and filled with various pastes (most commonly, black sesame, red bean, matcha, and taro.)

The second is somewhat translucent sometimes with a dull shine to it and with a much darker color, also filled with various pastes. I've seen this in green tea and black sesame flavors most commonly.

What is the difference between these? Are they both called manju or does one have a different name? Are they both mochi and if so why is one somewhat translucent and shiny while the other is opaque and dull? Any help would be appreciated, I really can't seem to find the answer on my own.

Thank you very much for your time and help

Answer:

Traditionally, mochi is made by pounding steamed glutinous rice in a large wooden mortar, called the usu, with a wooden mallet called the kine. Mochi-tsuki is the Japanese term for the old-style method of pounding the steamed glutinous rice used to make mochi.

Manju or Mochi Manju uses the same flour. Instead of being pound, they are kneaded - either before or after been cooked - it is cool then, and you know the rest.

They are sometimes dust with mochi flour or corn starch to prevent from sticking -that's why they are sometimes dull looking as with Mochi, too.

He is 60 years old extremely talented Artist..

Some countries issue "retirement visa" which is a visa for retired people. It depends on each country how difficult it is to get it.

Google with "retirement visa" for more information.

Please check if my sentence is correct?

Question:

間、全ての問題は答えたただ時間がきつくて答えは正のかよくわからない、でも勉強した…

I wanted to say: I answered all the questions but I am not sure if everything is correct because of time pressure. I studied vocabulary too much.

Please check grammar and correct translation. And tell me what's wrong.

Thank you!

Answer:

Sorry. But your answer is far from a correct answer. You need to put a break first of all.

>全ての問題は答えた
I think you wanted to say "I answered all the questions" with this. But you need to put 。 at the end. And this is a bit rude way to say it.

You need to say like 全ての問題に答えました。

>ただ時間がきつくて
Well, this is not bad as "because of time pressure"

>答えは正のかよくわからない、
This is not correct at all. You need to say
答えが正しいか分かりません。 or
答えが合っているか分かりません。

Your last sentence is not complete.

What's the best flavour soft ice cream you've had in Japan?

Question:

I think one of the best things about Japan is the fun way all sorts of new flavours are made for things like soft ice cream, KitKats, soft drinks, etc.

Apple was a pretty good soft ice cream flavour for me. Anata ha?

Answer:

I once had sweet potato and lavender - not together. The sweet potato was actually kind of good. The lavender was okay as a novelty, but odd. But the strangest flavor I heard of but never got a chance to try is something call charcoal flavor. Yeah, weird but I wish I could had tried it just to have the bragging rights.

How are WWI and WWII related? In what ways were they truly global conflicts?

Question:

Answer:

The two have their similarities and differences

The two wars did not begin as a Global convict. WWI began with Germany fighting Britain and France in Belgium. It was not a world war until Turkey enter and its front opened. WWII began with the Japanese expanding their empire in the Pacific and Asia. Both the allied powers were very unprepared for war were the Central and axis were ready. It became a Global conflict once Germany invaded Poland. They both had inevitable defeat when America fought against the central and axis powers. They both had many Technical advance as WWI saw the introduction of tanks, machine guns, and planes. WWII produce Jet engines, rockets, Nuclear weapons.

They are fairly different also. WWI was fought more for Independence for Austria-hungary case and to hang on the empire for Turkey case. WWII was fought for expansion of one country empire though racial and dominates. WWII was fought on more fronts(Eastern :Russia, Europe, North Africa, Half of the Pacific, and Asia) where WWI was mostly fought between France, Germany and Belgium. Many more people dies in WWII around 70 million vs. 17 million to wwI. WWI mostly used trench warfare and there wasn't near as many tanks battles as in wwII. WWII saw Blitzkrieg were planes accompany by tanks and infantry would tear the enemy lines at the weak spot and get a quick victory.

I would say they have their share of similarities, but WWII was fought on a level WWI wasn't at. I have all the respect of wwI soldiers but WWI is like the playoffs were WWII was the super bowl because the entire world was fighting.

Help! How did the Canadian government take care of japanese canadians for 25 years after the WWII?

Question:

Since the Charter of Rights and freedoms in Canada did not exist until 1982, how did the government take care of the Japanese Canadians for 25 years after knowing the prejudice these group have face? How have the leaders from the recent years responded to them being made to suffer their whole lives?

Answer:

The Canadian Charter of Rights, ratified in 1982; replaced the Canadian Bill of Rights established in 1960. There was no formal statement of the Rights of Canadians from the Canadian government prior to this time, prior to this time the rights of Canadians were consider to be "Implied by Law" rather than explicitly stated. Regardless, the internment of the Japanese Canadians in World War II was done under the authority of the Ar Measures Act, which allowed the Canadian government to set aside the rule of law in emergency situation such as wartime.
In 1950 a Royal Commission was authorized by the Canadian government which provided compensation for some of the property losses of Japanese Canadians. In 1988 the Canadian government gave the Japanese Canadians a formal apology for the Internment, and provided a compensation package of $21,000 (CAD) to each internee. Also in 1988 the War Measures Act was repealed, replaced by the Emergencies Act which now prohibits actions in violation of the Charter even in times of Emergency; so such action as the Japanese Internment could never again be legally done in Canada..

Any good history books or resources covering Samal Island, Philippines during WWII?

Question:

I've found some interesting Japanese war artifacts on a piece of land our foundation purchased to build an orphanage in the Philippines. I'm looking for info on what Japanese units were present on Samal Island during the war, and whether or not there was any combat between U.S. and Japanese forces there.

Clearly, this was not the site of any major battle, but something was happening here. Passing references suggest that the Japanese enslaved the populace there for about 4 years before being liberated by American forces. But I can't seem to find any details about what the Japanese were doing there.

I'm happy to do my own reading, but I could use some direction.

Thanks!

Answer:

it is books by Stephen Ambrose

Why was china an important trading post to the British during the opium war and..?

Question:

and how did they feel about the foreign influence.?

Those are my two questions.
Right now in my history class we are learning about, The Impact of imperialism on china. And I really
need help on these questions.

Answer:

i'm pretty sure its because they were addicted to opium....badly addicted, too many chinese were hooked and its government wasn't happy about that. the british didn't care; it was huge profit, and they wanted to keep the money flowing. i think there was also a shortage of silver too, because china kept buying the opium and its silver was flowing out of the country...

but anyways, china has and always will ****ing hate foreigners (at least when they aint making china rich). cities like nanjing and hong kong are huge marks of national shame and memories (from people like british invaders, or the japanese). china wanted the english out of there but this just couldn't fight off the british and their superior technology/navy

you'll see a lot of these examples of Western-style countries harassing and exploiting non-advanced cultures for profit. like the spanish with all of mesoamerica
