Is becoming a citizen of Japan a logical goal for a scientist? (I do hope this is the right category)?

Question:

Hello, I am 15 years old and just now starting to think about things like where I want to end up, what my final goals are, etc. I am a near straight A student, my only B being in my immersion class (Hint-my ability to learn a new language is perhaps more lagged then my other abilities) . I am in advanced classes and will graduate high school in two years at the rate Im on. I then plan to go study astronomy for ten years here in Canada. I have already started to study Japanese, and have successfully leaned hiragana, katakana, and all the kanji at kindergarten- grade three level. Is astronomy a skill that will be accepted by Japanese immigration? Am I making good progress? Is there something I should be doing differently to make this a more realistic goal? Im more then willing to relinquish my Canadian citizenship as I do not feel there's anything "for me," here, despite it being the 6th highest nation in the world. Japan seems to be the place to be for people who actually want to be recognized scientifically.

Answer:

You usually need working or student visa to live in Japan.

For working visa, you have to get a job offer from a Japanese company. But you can't look for a job in Japan without a visa. So you need it before you enter Japan.

For student visa, you have to be admitted to a Japanese college. You need to pay tuition and living cost for 4 years. It could be about $100,000.

If you want to become a Japanese citizen, you have to keep living in Japan for more than 5 years without a pause. Then, you will be eligible to apply for citizenship. But you need more like stable income, sufficient reason, Japanese language skill and so on if you want your application to be accepted.

You can apply for Permanent Residence of Japan under similar condition. And this is relatively easier than citizenship.

>Is astronomy a skill that will be accepted by Japanese immigration? Am I making good progress?

No. Japan does not need much more scientists from other countries because there are more than enough in Japan.

What are the meaning of these Japanese words?

Question:

1. まで ma de (Noun + ma de (i ku ra deska)
2. どう いたしましてdo u & i ta shi ma shi te.
3 線
3.ですよ desu yo

When are they used? Aligato gozaimasu

Answer:

Those seem to be used when you ask the way to go somewhere.
(I don't think it's a good idea to break the phrase down and ask the meaning of each word.)

You're welcome

Should I Stay in Massachusetts or should I take the job in Japan?

Question:

I was recently accepted for a job in Japan teaching English to kindergartners. I have experience working with kids and an interest in language acquisition.I have wanted to go to Japan for years, and I speak a little Japanese and would plan to study in my spare time and do a little travel during breaks. My best friend (known 10 years) thinks that it is a very bad idea and he does not want me to go. (We're both gay, so it's NOT a romantic thing) I am having a really hard time making a decision. I think that it would be a good experience, and I've "done my homework" on living in Japan, and know that I can handle it. I'm not some glossy-eyed otaku/weeabu either. He says that it will be hard/impossible for me to transition back to life in the US after a year and that it will put a serious damper on me getting a job when I get back and hold me back in terms of completing my education. I still need to go for my masters... He says that if I want to teach ESL that I can just get a job at his school and that it would look better on a resume, and that I'll be seen as a transient free-loader if I work overseas. If I get the job at his school there are more financial benefits, and there's also the possibility of a long-term job and the school would pay for my masters. No such benefits/long term things will come out of the kindergarten job.

He's worried that I won't come back, and I'm worried that he'll stop talking to me. I don't feel like going back to school and going to Japan are mutually exclusive... he thinks that I'll never recover financially from going over seas.... and I think that I'm gonna feel disappointed and be seen as a cop-out if I don't go.

Answer:

If you applied for this job, you should take it. It's a once in a life time opportunity that you will cherish the rest of your life.
If you plan only to teach for one year, go for it. It would look good on your resume.
I really doubt if you'll have any problems when you get back.
If your friend is a real friend, he should respect what you want to do & wish you well.
Go with your heart, give Japan a try. There will always be a " should I have " thought in the back of your mind if you don't.

How much money should i bring for a trip to Japan?

Question:

I am going on a school trip to Japan during spring break. We will be going for 9 days visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nara. The trip doesn't include lunch and dinner (except for 2 nights). I also want money for souvenirs and stuff. How much should I ask my parents to give me? I'm 14 in the 9th grade. Thanks!

Answer:

The flight will take about 13-14 hours, depending on the weather, air traffic, airline and other factors.
It looks like your accommodations, transport and some food is included, so from what you write you
could make do with about $400 minimum, if the school trip includes the tickets to go to the large number of temples, shrines, etc. Otherwise, add another $150 or so. Souvenirs could be a few dollars each to the sky's the limit, so you need to watch yourself and think of what you want within reason. Naturally you will be more comfortable with more money, but these are the minimums.

Question:

I'm sorry if I offend anyone with this question. I ordered some food, and random goods from Japan awhile ago not thinking of the radiation problem they are having. Is it save to eat the food? Again I'm sorry if this offends anyone, I'm just a little worried.

Answer:

I personally would not eat that food, as I do not believe it is safe to eat due to possible radiation exposure.
I take vegetable based Iodine to fill up the thyroid and protect myself from radiation.
Maybe something for you to consider.

Is the Japanese name Kaede a common name for a boy?

Question:

I know it's unisex, but is it seen as more feminine?

Answer:

Kaede is getting more and more popular as baby name.
The older people may think it to be a little odd name,
But young parents won't hesitate to name their baby Kaede.
I think it's rather feminine, but they say there are quite a few boys named Kaede.
A character of manga Slam Dunk, high school basketball player, has this name: Kaede Rukawa.
This boy has changed the image of the name, I think.

Making pickled garlic for the first time!!?

Question:

I noticed that almost all the recipes i have found for pickled garlic calls for sugar and i was wondering does the sugar have to be added? Also is it better to use just straight vinegar? or is it better to use half vinegar and half water for the brine? If anyone has a recipe that they would like to share i would appreciate it. thank you

Answer:

Just about all pickling recipes contain sugar and vinegar. If you are only planning on making a small batch and intend to use it fairly soon, you can leave out the sugar and use a milder vinegar such as Japanese wine vinegar or mix it with water, but the end product may be sort of bland..

Question:

Where do I go if I want to send a postcard from the Narita airport in Japan to the United States?

How much does it cost for 1 postcard?

Answer:

It depends, if you are outside of security, there is a post office in each terminal of the airport.

If you are inside security, then essentially you can't mail it from within Japan, however as mentioned you can try to give it to a airline staffer who might be able to assist you.

Traditional Japanese foods/meals that are cheap to buy in America?

Question:

Answer:

Yakisoba pan (not that traditional but this one is the cheapest one on the list)
Gyudon
Oyakodon
Cha soba/zaru soba
Yakimeshi/chahan

Udon/soda/ramen are usually pretty inexpensive
Kakiage don usually won't cost that much
Okonomiyaki is a little iffy but there are cheap ones around
Katsudon usually don't cost that much and there are some cheap ones around
Omurice usually don't cost that much and there are some cheap ones around

Everything above are meal sized servings. If you go to the right places, everything on the list should cost about the same as a combo (if not less) at most fast food places.

Who's a good Japanese Idol that could be a role model?

Question:

Except Beckii Cruel!
I wanna become an idol in Japan so who should I act like?
What do the Japanese like?
Also i'm 13

Also if you comment saying anything negative or not about the question then you are pathetic and will be looked down upon by me so don't waist your time.

Answer:

I absolutely love the band FLOW there very famous not just in Japan but internationally, as for cute girl bands there are so many famous and successful ones
just take a pic ;)
remember in Japan success in the entertainment world is not lead by the looks of people like other countries for example Korea (no offense to Korea ^^) but their performance and the quality of music is always the most important thing
if you have talent, your age, look or gender will actually not play that big of a role
as long as you be your self and be original

oh and also I have met beckii cruel about 2 weeks ago
she cam to the doki doki Manchester festival and I asked her about my NYAN cat cosplay
lol very random xD just wanted to add that :P

anyways GOOD LUCK <3

please give me a recipe if you can. Find it hard to search since i do not know the names

Answer:

i think this is what you are after this is a cheese cake made as the cheese built into it then topped with fruit it is a chiffon cheese cake with pic's
chiffon Cheesecake with Fresh Fruit Topping
ingredients
125gm cream cheese
90ml milk
15gm butter
30gm flour
24gm cornstarch
3 egg yolks
3 egg whites
pinch of salt
1/8 tsp cream of tartar
75gm sugar
Topping:
1/2 tsp gelatin
1 Tbsp water
150ml whipping cream
2 tbsp sugar
Mixed fresh fruits, mango, strawberries, kiwifruit and blueberries
1 Tbsp instant jelly
100ml water
1 tbsp sugar
Method
1In a heavy saucepan, cook cream cheese, milk and butter until thick and smooth. Set aside
.
2. Preheat oven at 160C. Boil some water.

3. After the cheese mixture has turned warm and mix in both flours. Stir with a whisk until smooth.

4. Put egg yolks into the cheese mixture and stir until well combined.

5. In another clean bowl, beat egg whites until frothy. Put in cream of tartar and beat until soft peaks, add in sugar gradually and beat until stiff (soft droopy peak that will hold its form).

6. Fold 1/4 of egg whites into cheese mixture, and then another 1/4 of the egg whites.

7. Pour the cheese mixture into the remaining egg whites and fold.

8. Pour batter into a lined pan (you can just line the base and grease the sides, it's not a must to line the sides as well. Springform or regular pan will be fine, but spring form's base must be wrapped.)

9. Place cake pan into a slightly bigger, shallower pan. Fill the bigger pan with boiling water and put in oven to bake at 150C for 45 minutes.

10. Unmould cake immediately upon removal from oven, if not, the cake will shrink a lot. (If you're using a regular pan you can release the sides by running a knife between the cake and pan, and leave the cake in the pan to cool down).

To make topping
1. Put water into a heatproof bowl. Sprinkle gelatin onto water. Wait for 2 minutes. Either heat it by double boiling or zap it in the microwave on high for 25 seconds. Leave gelatin mixture to cool down totally.

2. Freeze mixing bowl and beaters for 5 minutes. Remove mixing bowl and pour in cold whipping cream.

3. Beat whipping cream until visible streams can be seen. Pour in cooled gelatin mixture and sugar and beat until stiff peaks. Do not overbeat
.
4. Mound whipping cream onto cooled cake. Top with diced mixed fruits. Chill cake in freezer for 10 minutes while you make the jelly topping.

5. Put water and sugar into a small saucepan, on medium heat, bring to a boil. Put in instant jelly powder and stir until fully dissolved.

6. Remove cake from freezer and glaze fruits with instant jelly solution. The jelly will firm up upon contact with the cold fruits.

7. Return cake to fridge and chill for another 2 hours before serving.

Can i move to japan as a chef?

Question:

Hello im from greece and im in a Chef School. Its my second year, after im done with it i want to move to japan.I been there for 2 weeks and really like it.Do i have any chances moving there? im 18.If yes what im gonne need? im already taking japanese classes.

Answer:

I think it's possible if you were lucky enough to be employed by a Greek restaurant in Japan. In Tokyo area alone, there are a dozen of Greek restaurants. The hardest part is getting a working visa, but you have an advantage over Japanese chef as far as Greek cuisine is concerned.
You need to make contact with them. Some of them may respond. Or, you'd better come to Japan again and visit all the prospective Greek restaurants to talk with the owners directly. In Japan, personal contact and relations are important more than anything else.

Are there any recipes that use Prawn crackers as an ingredient?

Question:

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knew a recipe that Prawn crackers are used in as an ingredient, as i have a load of them and i don't know what to do with them.

Answer:

I have used them and a few my UK chef mates to for a breading on fish, king prawns, even crushed and sprinkled over cooked fish or seafood items like croutons or use them mixed with breadcrumbs, spices and melted butter to gratin fish pie or fillets of fish baked in a gratin dish.

The Japanese use small rice crackers in some tempura batters, for pop, just add them before yu go to dip and fry as they will breakdown quickly once wet.

Do Chinese people like Fried Rice?

Question:

Ahhh soo ahhh soo

Answer:

There are enough Chinese people who liked the dish well enough to keep fried rice on Chinese menu for well over a thousand year. Most of China's neighboring countries got fried rice on the menu as well; this is a good indication of the dish's popularity.

By the way, "ahh soo" is not Chinese. It is Japanese. "Soka", "Ah so", or even "Ah so so so" is used in Japanese language quite often.

Travelling to Japan early next year. Pricing question?

Question:

Hi there.

I'm hoping to go to Japan early next year (only free time I have) and I was wondering if I could get some help on cost of flight, accomodation etc. I was wondering if it were possible to get a 2 way flight and accomdation for £1000? I don't mind flying as cheap as possible and realistically, i'd be looking at hostels for my stay.

In total I have £3000 for the trip and although I can go a little over and under i'm hoping to use the bulk of my money going around Japan (osaka, tokyo), eating out and purchasing souvenirs.

Thanks for reading. I'd love to hear how much some of you paid in this regard.

Answer:

After the New Year's rush prices come down fairly quickly, so it is possible to get a cheaper return ticket. There are many places in Japan you can stay at that are clean, decent, and not too pricey.
If you can, get a JR Rail Pass, which allows you to ride virtually any JR train in the country. You need to get it *before* going to Japan. It looks high when you first buy it, but you'll save a lot in the long run and not be so limited on where you can go. You can get more info on it at
http://www.japanrailpass.net
Or look into JAL's Yokoso Airpass or Welcome to Japan fare; or ANA's Star Alliance Japan Airpass or Visit Japan Fare. (The former for each airline respectively is cheaper and you need to take that airline or one in their frequent flier mileage alliance). You need to get them before you arrive in Japan, and allow a maximum of 5 flights to nearly every airport in the country. It is a huge savings over regular airfare - often less than half the regular cost per flight.
www.jal.co.jp/yokosojapan/
http://www.staralliance.com/en/fares/reg…
http://www.ana.co.jp/wws/us/e/wws_common…
You can also get a city subway day pass for about 1000 yen, which can also save a lot. And for cheaper places to stay, try looking at

How should I deal with this?

Question:

December 7th 1941, Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese. I am not an American, I am a Canadian, but I am in Japan. How should I deal with reminding the students I teach about what happened in Hawaii 70 years ago? Will they learn from their bad history? Have they learned from it by having their country claim responsibility for this tragic event, that killed 2,403 American troops?

Also I will have my ALT teachers meeting that day and most of the ALT teachers are American.

Answer:

Do you know what really happened ? The attack was provoked. The American government had been trying to cut off oil supplies to Japan. Not only was the attack provoked, we knew about a week or two ahead of time. Our higher ups wanted us to get into the war. They let the attack happen. Try and google " The bones of station H ".
Do you think a fleet of ships and planes could travel all the way from Japan to Hawaii and not be noticed by someone ?
