What are some Japanese bands like this?

Question:

I don't know about Japanese music. I've been listening to classic/indie American and European music my whole life. The only Japanese music I've heard has been pop I've seen featured on YouTube's front page. To put it extremely charitably, I don't like it, so I've never really listened to any music from there. Then today, my friend left this link on my Facebook.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nV7hlpl1r…

WOW! Talk about something that's right up my alley. Yes the lyrics are a bit retarded, but it sounds like so many bands I already love yet has it's own uniqueness to it. So it got me thinking, what are some other really good Japanese bands that are like this? It doesn't matter if they're in Japanese or English.

BQ: From that top comment, I started wondering, what do Japanese people think of J-pop? Are they just kind of jaded about it like we are with our pop or is it generally like over there?

Answer:

Monkey Majic.
It’s so Japanese..

Question regarding Asian's being respectful.?

Question:

Try to explain this without it being a book. I had an exchange student from Japan live in my home for a year. I know there were times where she didn't understand our culture and probably mistook some of the things we said and did offensively. When her and my mother bumped heads at time, I think this is where she began to resent our family. She misunderstood my mom's actions. Anyways, I've spoken to her only a little since she has returned home. It's been almost 3 years now. I figure out of niceness she responds to my messages. She doesn't always respond and keeps things short. I figure she is resentful towards my mother and I for whatever might have happened and this is why she didn't talk to me for a whole year. She even confronted me in an e-mail asking me why I send her so much e-mail but barely talked to her when she was living with us. (This isn't true though. It was my senior year when she lived with us so I was very active in sports, internships, etc... and spent time with her when I could.) This shows that she is resentful but she might only be replying to me just to be respectful though she might not even want to acknowledge me. I've had multiple proof for her not wanting to. Anyways, is this the case? In Asian culture, I guess specifically in Japan, if you feel resentful you won't say it? She won't tell me she does not want to talk to me because it's rude... so in return she just ignores me? There is a lot of things I left out to fill in the gaps (I suppose) so don't assume we like beat her or some crazy stuff.

Answer:

>In Asian culture, I guess specifically in Japan, if you feel resentful you won't say it? She won't tell me she does not want to talk to me because it's rude... so in return she just ignores me?

In short, yes. It's reaction of typical Japanese girl.

>If there was anything I could do to get her forgiveness, would you know?

Japanese girls do not open their mind again once they become willing to ignore someone. So it's very difficult.

Tell me if you have any other question.

Foreign talent in japan?

Question:

is foreign talent big there? i mean like the american singer, becca who was signed to a japanese record label, how did she do it? ... also please please try to be nice about this question xo...dont be to harsh please :/

Answer:

Yes, "foreign talent" (gaijin tarento) is huge in Japan. So many famous American actors and singers go to make a commercial in Japan... you can check YouTube for Arnold Schwartzenegger in Japan (see below) - so crazy and funny!

Or you can watch the movie "Lost in Translation" (Bill Murray) to see a fictional account of a washed-up American actor who goes to Japan to make a commercial...

How do they do it? I think their agents arrange these things... you would probably just get in touch with a Japanese advertising agency, or they would contact your agent (if you're famous, etc.).

Hope this helps! :)

Do Asian men (Japanese, in particular) find Latinas attractive?

Question:

Hey(:
OK. I have a liking for Asian men. Someday, in the somewhat near future-- I hope to travel to Japan. I’m Hispanic. Tan—not skeletal/not chubby—and have long dark curly hair and side bangs that I always straighten. My question is: do Asian men find Latina attractive? (in general). Would it be nearly impossible to get a guys attention in Japan? I’d be going to Japan for a non-relationship seeking reason but I’m JUST CURIOUS. To see how likely it’ll be for me to find a date.
(yes, I would have a moderate fluency in the language but my question is about attraction. Do Japanese men (if not, Asians in general) find Latinas attractive? -__o

Thanks!!

Answer:

Aw great. Another, "do Japanese men like?" question. Listen, no one can tell you who Japanese men like. Must I tell you why? BECAUSE EVERYONE'S DIFFERENT REGARDLESS OF RACE. And sorry to be blunt but, why are you telling us about your physical features? No one cares. Your question was, "Do Asian men (Japanese, in particular) find Latinas attractive?". Not, "Would Japanese men find me attractive?". So what was the point of that?

@ilikeyourface561, Tea Time had better be the one who gave people thumbs down. Because if it was you, that's really childish. Giving people thumbs down because they didn't say," Oh yeah!! Japanese men LOVE Latina women!!". You definitely won't be getting Japanese men with that infantile attitude Or any man for that matter . And sorry to break it to you but, most Japanese people don't approve of sexual interracial relationships.

@ilikeyourface561, Ok, I was a little harsh. You have my sincerest apologies. But do you really want a generalization of a Japanese man's preference? Fine. Most Japanese men like Japanese women. There. That's your generalization. Not saying you won't find a Japanese man that likes you. Hopefully you will.

@ChevalierCourageux, What do you mean, "yupe"? You and your buddies don't represent all Asian men. So you can't say yes. And according to you profile, you aren't even Japanese.

@Chai Time, I bet you're Tea Time aren't you? Did your first answer as Tea Time get removed? Here's a tip. If you don't want people to know it's you, try changing your second accounts name from something less similar than your fist accounts name.

@Sayaka, No, foreigners are not rare in Japan. You must live somewhere that doesn't get much city action. There are a lot of American military bases in Japan and also, Japan is one of the hottest tourist attractions.

What does this Japanese phrase mean?

Question:

まじはらいたいしぬ。

It appears a lot in the doujinshi series I read. When I try to make sense of it my translation comes out weird.

まじ= seriously
払う=to pay, drive away, get rid of

So I come up with "I really want to get rid of you guys" but it doesn't sound right.

Also, is there any tips anyone can give me when it comes to translating slang terms and accents. For example,

ちょういじめっすよこれ

It took me a while to get that っす is a drag on the word です.

So does this sentence translate as "This is really poking fun" etc.

Please help. Onegaishimasu.

Answer:

●まじはらいたいしぬ

まじ=seriously
はらいた=腹が痛い my stomach ache for strong laughter
しぬ=死ぬ I die(almost goin to die because of strong laughter)

in a word, "I'm gonna die cuz this make my stomach ache for laughter.

●ちょういじめっすよこれ
ちょう=超 extremely, very.
いじめ=虐め bully
っすよ= ですよ is
これ= this
in a word:
this is a kind of extremelly horrible bullly.

Japanese teenager question?

Question:

What is life like for a typical Japanese teenager, as far as family, school, activities, and recreation goes?

Answer:

Welll I'm half Japanese/American and I get shipped over there every summer, so I kinda have an idea of what it's like. I have to go to school there too.:/

Well, for a teenager, life can be fun. They have friends, and everybody's house is so close together they can walk to each others houses after school almost every day. The school is very strict, and they have a LOT of homework. They do outdoor activities during school gym hours, but its not very fun. Your melting in the sun, and you get really tired. For lunch, they eat in the classroom, in groups of 5 or 6 they call hans (Hahh-Nz) They'll put their desks together, when its lunch. The cafeteria makes lunch for everybody, and everybody eats the same thing. Basics; bowl of rice or soup, sometimes bread, a main dish, they ALWAYs have a little carton of milk, and sometimes you get orange juice. You are required to bring your own chopsticks, that you can buy anywhere. They have ALOT of different designs. After lunch, theres basically a long break, then they make you clean the classroom. (sweeping, washing floor w/ rag, cleaning the board, etc.)
For activities, japanese teenagers sign up for a thing called bukatsu. (boo-kah-tsoo) It's an activity they do at the school 24/7. All teenagers basically do it. They'll have soccer, tennis, judo, etc. But they have to do it every day after school until 6:00 PM, and on Saturdays. So their only day off is basically Sunday. OK, well I could go on and on but enough about school.
As I'm a girl, most girls in japan will go to the mall with their friends. Just like here, right? And they have little photo booths where they can take pics and edit them, then stick em on their stuff. There are hardly ever tomboys in japan. All the girls are interested in anime, bows, boys, gossiping, etc. Guys are all about their sports, or their a nerd, and into anime.
A japanese family is like an american family. Except they eat different stuff. Most houses have a Wii, too. Most teenagers don't have alot of normal clothes, because every school has this terrifying ugly uniform, and they can only wear them on Sunday, anyways. Teenagers in high School usually have a cell phone, but its usually a girl thing. And everybody has to walk to school, even if it takes 20-30 min.s Well I'm bored , so this is it. Hope this helpedd:)

When you learn Japanese what alphabet do you learn?

Question:

Answer:

We learned Katakana followed by Hiragana and then Kanji.

A good book to help learn these is An Introduction to Modern Japanese by Osamu Mizutani & Nobuko Mizutani
http://japan-australia.blogspot.com/2011…

After studying this book you will be able to read all of the hiragana and katakana, recognise a lot of basic words in kanji, and have a good knowledge of grammar.

Is an exchange to Japan worth it?

Question:

I'm trying to decide which country I want to go to on exchange. I really wanted to go to Japan until I watched a few vlogs on youtube made by people who exchanged there. They all seemed pretty depressed. I want my exchange to be fun and I also want to grow a lot as a person. Do you think Japan can offer both?

Answer:

Anytime you have a firsthand opportunity to learn about customs and traditions of an other culture in person it will enrich your life. An exchange in Japan can be fun,and if you attempt to understand their culture as well, you will mature tremendously.

Learning Kanji by grade level or JLPT level?

Question:

I am trying to learn a some kanji (just for general progress in my Japanese study) and was wondering which would be better, the JLPT seem to increase difficulty based on the stroke order/number and complexity, while the grade levels seem to increase in difficulty of the vocabulary word, not the complexity of the character itself.

Is one better than the other to begin studying? Any other suggesttions?

Thank you.

Answer:

If you're just doing it for your own interest and not for the JLPT, you might be better off going by grade level. I have noticed that the kanji learned earlier on aren't just basic kanji in their own right, but often pop up later as radicals in more complex kanji. Another method might be to see how textbooks like the Genki series (or whatever series you prefer) arrange kanji for study. Adult learners often have different needs than young children learning the language, and if you go by the grade level approach you might learn some really useful kanji (like the ones for the days of the week) later than if you followed the course outlined in a textbooks meant for adult learners.

How can I translate this phrase into Japanese?

Question:

Okay, this is a little embarrassing, but I'm looking to have a saying/phrase made into a calligraphy wall scroll kind of thing, but I'm unsure on a good way to have it put. It's kind of silly, but it has a history to it, so it makes sense to the people I know.

The phrase is: "Sleep when tired, wake up training."

What would be a neat little way of putting it that had a poetic ring to it? For "training" I'd like to use the word shugyo (修行).

Any ideas?

Answer:

睡眠時に疲れて。修行目を覚まし。

Question:

I am trying to figure out the whole yen to dollar thing..?

Question:

I'm just not getting it. I keep getting all these numbers, like 1.00 JPY = 0.0130788 USD
-____-" If anyone can recamend something a little more simpler I'd very much appreciate it! ^_^

Answer:

Look at it this way -- 1 yen is about 1.3 cents from your example above.

But most people don't think that way - just take the most current exchange rate from a site like
www.xe.net or www.oanda.com and just plug in the numbers.

Now $1 is about 76 yen - so 1000 yen is 1000/76 or about $13.16
or
$25 is 25 x 76 or about 1900 yen.

How many people know Japan exploded their atomic bomb 6 days after Hiroshima?

Question:

I just watched a sat. TV show with Jap scientists that said Japan exploded their atomic bomb 6 days after Hiroshima. The scientists had documents showing the research and developement of their atomic bomb. It was exploded off the coast some Japanese controlled country near Japan.

Answer:

That's false. Why would they do that anyway? They're aren't moronic like you. And besides, Japan didn't even have access to nuclear technology such as the atomic bomb. If that were the case, Japan would have bombed the U.S with it during WWII. You know, you can't believe everything you see on television. And I don't think that they aired something entirely false on television. You probably read it in a article on a god-knows-where website.

Would you still travel to Japan even after the eaethquake/tsunami?

Question:

I ask some of my friends this and they say "No,because they just had an earthquake so im not going anywhere over there." But what they don't understand is that not all parts of Japan were affected. I for myself will still love to go and i will once i get the money i need. Would you still travel to Japan?

Answer:

Of course.

The earthquake and tsunami affected the northeast coast of the island of Honshu in Japan. Like you noted, there's a lot more to Japan than that area. Basically anywhere that any tourist from outside of Japan is going to visit isn't even near that area anyway.

If you think about it, now that a major earthquake has happened, and the aftershocks have basically finished, it's probably less likely that another major earthquake will occur.

What makes your friends so sure that where they are now is any more safe? I don't know where you're from, but there's always something that can happen anywhere in the world.

Lots of people are still traveling to Japan. Lots of foreigners are living in Japan. Lots of foreigners lived through the natural disasters and continue to live in Japan.

Post graduation in Japanese language (M.A japanese).?

Question:

konnichiwa sensei..am planning to do my M.A in japanese ,by this year my M.Sc in computer science is going to finish. So can I go for M.A japanese directly without doing B.A in japanese..If its possible then please tell me which university offers this course. In google i found only jawaharlal nehru university is there anyother university which offers this course.

Answer:

I've never heard of that. As far as I know, you can study a language, but if you want a Masters Degree associated with it, it's not just going to be in the language, like Japanese. It would have to be in a specific discipline, like Japanese Literature.

How much Japanese do you know? You can't just skip directly to a Masters programme in Japanese if you have no Japanese background. How would you know what they're talking about?

How much does it cost to live in japan for three months in terms of dollars (American or Australian)?

Question:

Answer:

It really depends on where you stays, what you would do, what you eat:
My estimation is: 6,000 US.D for 3 months.

Break down is:
Rent: 1000 USD./Month (If You prefer to stay Hotel: >3,500 USD./Month)
Food: 500 USD./Month (If you often eat-out: >1,200 USD/Month)
Others: 500 USD./Month (It really depends.)

The hardest part is if you are lucky enough to find out reasonable apartment that you can stay for 3 months.
The term of contract for most of rent is about 2 years. For 3 months stays, the choices are limited:
Here’s some possible web sites to seek these apartment:

Why sex crime in western nations is higher than chauvinistic country ,Japan?

Question:

It is often said eastern nations such as Japan, is chauvinistic. they don't respect women as westerners do. they dont open a door for a woman indeed, but sex crime in western nations is much higher than these eastern nations. I've heard even a young girl can walk along a street alone at night in Japan , what is this paradox? westerners are respectful to wemen is a illusion?

Answer:

Sex crime is a crime, a violent one. In Japan, fortunately, overall crime rate is pretty low, ant that goes for violent crimes as well. It has nothing to do with chauvinistic attitude of some Japanese men.

By the way, have you ever thought of why Western men open doors for women? I found out when I visited Italy. In the centruries-old stone buildings in Europe, the doors are made of thick wood and iron, so thery are really heavy: sometimes I had to lean on the door with all my weight to open them. It was probably more than frail ladies of the yeasteryear could manage. In contract, traditional Japanese sliding doors are made of light wood and paper, so women here never had trouble opening them.
