Is an exchange to Japan worth it?

I'm trying to decide which country I want to go to on exchange. I really wanted to go to Japan until I watched a few vlogs on youtube made by people who exchanged there. They all seemed pretty depressed. I want my exchange to be fun and I also want to grow a lot as a person. Do you think Japan can offer both?

Anytime you have a firsthand opportunity to learn about customs and traditions of an other culture in person it will enrich your life. An exchange in Japan can be fun,and if you attempt to understand their culture as well, you will mature tremendously.
