What are the expected health effects outside Japan, considering Fukushima?

Question:

More importantly, what is the best source to follow this news, since there are too many extreme positive and negative outlooks on this issue.

Tried to extend before, but expired. Not all questions were answered. Cheers!

Answer:

No long term health effects are predicted.

The reactor situation looks better daily. Now they are injecting nitrogen gas into all the reactor cores, which will reduce the risk of hydrogen explosions. The equipment for scrubbing the radioactive materials from the water seems to be working well, except for a few teething troubles, and phase one of the decommissioning should be completed pretty much on schedule.

Where do we find ear studs in Tokyo ?

Question:

Answer:

I would go to Harajuku. I can't give you the exact how to directions but I'll try my best.
When you get of the JR Line at Harajuku exit where the Wolfgang Puck and Yoshinoya is and go through Takeshita Dori. Now if you keep going down street you will at one point see a bunch of foreigners advertising for their shop selling more gangster style clothing. Keep walking you'll see a pink sign called Tuttuanna on the right side, you'll also pass a claires, Jeans Mate. You'll pass by a small cafe crepe on the right hand side. You'll eventually come to a store called Woodendolls, Store my ducks and the shoe store: Out of this world, turn right on the corner and walk straight and you'll see a punk style store.

What power adapters/voltage converters will I need for going to Japan?

Question:

I'm off to Japan (from Australia) on the third of August and I've done little research into what I'll need in terms of using my chargers etc. and the research I have done has come up pretty short. Any ideas?

Answer:

Just buy a step up transformer that can handle 100V at 50/60 Hz and you will be fine. You can get one in Japan, but to use your equipment immediately and avoid wasting time running around trying to look, if possible it'd be better to get one before you leave.

How to tell the difference in these Japanese words/alphabets?

Question:

I learned Hiragana and Katakana in a course. But i'm starting to learn Kanji on my own. I noticed that for example:
千 (Sen=thousand) looks like チ(chi in katakana)
十(jû= ten) looks like ナ (na in katakana)
and finally in katakana ン (n) and ソ (so)

I know they are not exactly the same, the curves are a little different. But i can't tell them apart most of the times.
How do you do it??understanding from the context or you really notice the curves?
Do you have a tip for me to not be confused? Thanks

Answer:

Context
My tip is do not over think or worry about it too much. Katakana are used for foreign words only. And sometimes it can be the italic counterpart in English.
When writing in hand, normally Katakana are written in an italic way so you'll notice the curves right ahead.
