How can you work in japan with a felony?

Question:

I have a drug related felony in which I served no jail time when I was 18 and cannot get it expunged. I am 30 now and have been to Japan 7 times but I do not disclose that I was arrested before. What kind of background check do they do? Do they have the Japanese consulate at here check it via NCIS or how do they administer this? I know they fingerprint now and I am sure they are checking for other things not felony records in the US....I am almost 1000000 % sure they do not have those records. Also what companies do not administer background checks? Is it up to the company to do that kind of check if I do not disclose? Also, how do they check if you are single or married when you fill out your certificate of eligibility or do they check?

Answer:

This question has been asked before. Various responses come back.

1- Times have been changing since 9/11 and it would be much easier for your little secret to come out. You'll have to worry about Immigration finding out as part of their investigation when issuing a visa and also any background check the company does. My guess is that the former is much more likely to turn something up because the latter check often is left undone.

2- I don't know the exact procedure that would take place if you were found out after having been issued a visa. But false statements on visa applications would count seem to count as fraud. You would almost certainly be leaving the country and most likely be a guest of the government in a jail cell for a while before that happened.

3- Your question about married or single makes it sound as if you might be planning to deceive the Immigration on yet another issue. This is not a good way to make a start in Japan. Plus, once again, if you get caught and are found to have lied about both your criminal record and your marital status, the volume of air being sucked through teeth is going to increase quite a bit.

Budget two weeks in japan?

Question:

Vague question but how much would it cost stay for two weeks , plan to travrl around see more sites and places, want to stay in japanese style accomodations like a ryokan,

Answer:

45,100¥ for 14 day rail pass. works on certain bullet trains, and all other Japan Rail lines. Does not work on underground which is starts at about 150¥ per journey (A lot of Japanese told me a single return journey on bullet train already makes the JR pass worth buying)

per night per person, apparently ryokan prices start at 5000¥ but where I stayed, the prices start at 15,000¥ (this place is tanabe ryokan in Hida, Takayama. Takayama is a beautiful place the seems to be off the maps slightly for foreign tourists, though I saw Chinese there, definitely worth going if you get JR Pass. It is also a very beautiful journey on the train there)

i stayed at hostels which were all extremely clean and friendly places. Prices start at 1400-2900¥. j-hoppers and K's hostels are nice places. Use hostelworld.com to find (and book accomodation if you want to)

a lot of sites tend to charge entry fees ranging from 200-1000¥ temples and shrines are free though.

Food is quite cheap if you find the right places, menus are usually outside though closed doors were mighty confusing to me. meals usually cost from 500-2000¥. Cooking for yourself is cheaper. You can also find pot ramen, bread, sushi and other quick meals in the numerous 7/11, Lawsons and other chains.

I set myself a limit of 10,000¥ per day which was more than enough for food, entry fees, souvenirs and other fun.

You'll also find ATMs in all 7/11s and post offices. most foreign cards work in both, some only work at post offices. Post offices are closed on saturday and sunday and rarely are the atms outside of the post office.

if you need any more info just ask
hope i helped

To go japan or not? (i am a black female)?

Question:

ok, so i am mixed race with black young woman who is planning on studying abroad in japan. i dunno why, but i do have an attraction towards japanese men, but they always blow me off because i'm "crazy" (dunno, i do have depression, plus they've all been players). so anyways, i was wondering if anyone here has been to japan who is not white because i always see white people depicted in anime and manga, and everytime i see a japanese dude he's either with a white girl or another asian girl. i have high expectations for this trip, but after some bad experiences with japanese people here in the us (guys, not girls), i have some worries, or anxieties. ANY advice would be helpful. thank you!!!
p.s. i am going to be studying in osaka, japan.most people usually go to tokyo, and i can't find any books on osaka, so has anyone non white ever been there? just curious... if you have been, when did you go and what was your experience? maybe eveyone's experience is different, but after meeting some sketchy people here, i am not sure what to expect exactly from people in japan. i do speak japanese at a profficient level, and i'm not bad looking. i'm really hoping to get insight before traveling over there.

Answer:

The Japanese guys you met in the U.S. were probably very untypical Japanese men. They were young, in a foreign country, and maybe even their parents were paying their way.

An average Japanese man is usually at work all day. So usually the problem for foreign women looking for a boyfriend/partner/spouse in Japan is they're all busy.

You've got to look at why you attracted the players into your life, because there are certainly players in Japan too. Not only that, but they're more likely the ones who'll be able to speak a bit more English than average too. (How else will they play?)

You're going to have to face that your skin colour is an issue in Japan. It's always going to be that way. When 95% of the people around you are yellow with black hair, you're going to stand out, and you know that already. So, you either accept that and have a great time, or you don't, and complain all day about how racist everyone is. I'd probably choose the first option.

I would say to change your views about men, because you're responsible for the type of men that come into your life as much as they are. There are plenty of decent men. Maybe they think YOU are the one who's "sketchy." Just something to keep in mind. I've spent many years in Japan, and I'm a guy, but I can tell you that there are all types of men in Japan, and I'd say that the majority of Japanese guys are really nice, cool people.

Learn some Japanese. Get into the culture. Study. Meet a guy at the library, at work, somewhere like that.

Do I need a US passport? Moving to Japan with navy husband...?

Question:

I've a quick question.
My husband and I recently got married (May 2011) and had a baby (July 2011) and he has orders to Japan in October. We have already done our medical checks, and we are applying for our sons passport and SSN tomorrow at the Embassy as we are in Bahrain.
Because his command wont sponsor me here due to him only having 2 months left, I have to pay for own flight to Japan.

So my question is:
Can I go to Japan with my American Husband and the US Navy with my British passport and get a SOFA, or do I need to obtain US citizenship and get an "official" passport.

All info is greatly appreciated

Answer:

US military personnel can bring spouse and children to Japan no matter what citizenship.

Child friendly Anime/Manga places?

Question:

Where in Okinawa japan can I find a kid friendly place that sells anime and/ or manga without porn mixed in?

Answer:

Almost every bookstore in Japan sells manga.
ex.
http://www.librarything.com/venue/66527/…
http://www.bookoff.co.jp/shop/shop.php?a…

I think usually a big bookstore places books for adults away from ones for kids.
So you will know whether a book is good for a kid or not.

In Animate, it might be not easy to know whether a product is good for kids.

Japanese people: If given the opportunity, would you switch to a privatized American-style Healthcare system?

I have no problem with our National Health Insurance in Japan.
We are proud of our system and we know that our Health Insurance is well ahead of that of the US.
I am positive that no Japanese wants to join the US system. No thanks!

Where can I find cheap Anime in Tokyo?

Question:

I've been to a few department stores and brand name dvd stores looking for anime recently but the cheapest one (My Neighbour Totoro) is over 3500 yen (around $45 AUD), ranging up to 5500 yen ($70 AUD) for just one movie. I find these prices ridiculous but they seem to be normal over here so I was wondering if there are any notable shops that would sell second hand or trade-in animes for cheaper prices more like 1000-2000 yen?

Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

Answer:

There are a lot of second hand anime at Bookoff or somewhere.
However not so cheap.
http://www.bookoff.co.jp/shop/shop.php

Why do you buy it?
Usually, we rent DVDs from rental shop, like Tsutaya.
Its fee about 400 yen / week.

Or you can see a lot of anime from Gyao! with free or low price.

Paying previous year's nenkin?

Question:

I came to Japan last year as an English teacher and am now currently working a different job at a company. I did not pay Japanese nenkin as a teacher, and currently nenkin is not being deducted from my paycheck at my current job. (This'll probably change soon since I've let them know it hasn't been deducted from my check.)

Am I obligated to pay nenkin for the months I did not pay? (If yes, how would I pay and how much would it be?) Are there any repercussions to not paying? I am American and while I'd like to stay in Japan for as long as possible, I am not sure of my future plans.

Answer:

>Am I obligated to pay nenkin for the months I did not pay?

I don't think you are obliged to pay.

>Are there any repercussions to not paying?

You can receive pensions after you become 65 if you have paid nenkin for more than 300 months. If you did not pay 300 months, you just can't receive pension. And the amount depends on the total amount of paid money. So the more, the better.
