How old do you have to be to fly over to Japan from America?

Question:

I'm looking into the culture of Japan and would like to do so without my parents being there with me and constricting my learning. I am 16

Answer:

Your parents constrict your learning? Good one.

Why not just convince them to let you get a passport and then give their approval to airlines for you to fly alone? The fact that you are supposed to be 18 to rent a hotel room here, well, they don't always enforce that. Though if they do that would REALLY constrict your learning.

Talk to your parents.

How do you say or in Japanese. As in 'apple or oranges'?

What is the American viewpoint on the Japanese disaster?

Question:

I live in Tokyo, Japan, and I was wondering how Americans view this disaster.

Answer:

One word, Horrendous. I don't think - in recent times anyway - has there been anything like we've seen in the Tohoku Region. They call it Higashi Nihon dai shin tai. Yeah, like you I live in Japan. And I am an American. So I qualify. You cannot imagine all the eMail messages I've received, and am still receiving, about the health, welfare and circumstances of this terrible disaster. All from America. I think its the helpnessess we all feel is what's worrying us most. May God bless those who survived, and doubly bless those who perished, may they rest in peace. I'm glad you asked the question. I hope you are overwhelmed with answers.

Why are there so many Brazilians in Japan?

Question:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Foreig…

according to this population map, there are hundreds of thousands of Brazilians in Japan. The second largest foreign demographic, just behind China. Of course China makes sense, but Brazil?

Answer:

About a century ago many, many Japanese went to Brazil to work as cheap labor on farms. They stayed and had families.

Then in the 1990s the Japanese government wanted someone to do their cheap labor but, being Japan, they didn't want to employ non-Japanese to do it for them. And so they remembered about Brazil.
The Japanese government loosened its normally very tight work-immigration policies for those with "Japanese blood" (usually no farther than 3rd generation) and their families, and if you're a Brazilian who is offered the chance to go to Japan to work you're going to think this is a great idea and head over there. (Unfortunately the reality is they're highly discriminated against, sort of on-par with Mexican immigrants in the U.S.)

Ironically, during the most recent economic troubles Japan thought they could fix their unemployment problem by telling the Brazilians to leave Japan on the government's dime, go back to Brazil, and not come back for at least five years.

Disturbing Gaijin profile on about.me: Pedophilia, prank or publicity?

Question:

Disturbing Gaijin profile on about.me: Pedophilia, prank or publicity?
http://about.me/gaijin

Answer:

Prank. Did you see the web address at the bottom--the logo of a website called fuckedgaijin.com.

It is a humorous site and parodizes the role of gaikokujin in Japan, otaku Japanese fantasies, and gaikokujin who think moving to Japan will make them super-cool.
It's not uncommon for people to find one of the millions of photos online of gaikokujin senseis at school functions, surrounded by teenage girls, and take it from the school site or blog and put it out of context to imply that the teacher is really hitting on the girls.

So here we have a gaikokujin who looks like a cool guy, and he is flanked on both sides by teenage high school students, so the creator makes a back story: He is 35 and pays high school girls for sex. That encounter apparently happens so frequently in Japan there is a name for it in Japanese, which is what the kanji says.

Lemme ask you: If a 35 year old English teacher was paying his teenage students to have sex with him, do you think he wants "publicity?"

What website can I find housing/apartment in JAPAN near the Disaster site?

Question:

Answer:

Working at Fukushima Plant is a very important job for Japan now to prevent spread of disaster and radiation. I don't think they will hire a foreigner for that.

Im going to be practical here- Does Japanese think that filipino r really bad ppl in japan?

Question:

This is obviously a question and im asking honestly to those people in japan- im not being racialist here or anything I just want to know the truth and honest answer what's there view from those Filipino people in japan- I've heard lots rumor till now but still i need to know why?

You can say your thoughts i don't mind if it's criticizes I will listen to it! reply ASAP ^^\/

Answer:

Some Filipinos tried to overstay in Japan to work. So some Japanese do not have a good image on them. Now it's very difficult for them to get a visa because of that history.

But personally, it depends on each person. I know that there are good Filipinos.

I live in NY. I have a passport. What do I need to move to JAPAN for work?

Question:

The move would be for less than a year. Where do I start?

Answer:

To work in Japan, a foreigner must receive a job offer from a guarantor in Japan, and then apply for a working visa at an embassy or consulate outside the country. In most cases in order to work full time in Japan you need to have a University degree and you also require the backing of a company in Japan to sponsor your visa. There are about a dozen types of working visas available, each allowing the holder to work only within a defined professional field, e.g. as an engineer, instructor or entertainer. Working visas are valid for a period of 1 to 3 years, and may be used to secure employment at any employer within the scope of activities designated on the visa (including employers other than the guarantor).

What is expensive about Japan?

Question:

Like is food expensive, and what part of Japan is affordable.
would love to live over there.
and how much would a small studio be a month?

Answer:

Everything costs, and costs like the dickens. "Expensive" is a word too kind for the inflated economy here in Japan. What the other responders reported to you in answer to your inquiry is true. There are one room apartments that are available, but they rent out for like 50,000yen+++ more a month. That translates to $400 to $500+++ per month. And you have to pay key money. The amount for this obscenity amounts 2 to 3+++ months rent. Possibly more, it's a case by case scam. Also, your newly acquired rented home comes with NOTHING. Not even a light bulb. This I swear to God I am not making up. No heater, refrigerator, no oven. When you move in you have to get all these things by yourself.
Food. too, costs. My wife is always on the hunt for bargain sales. (Yeah, I'm writing to you from Japan). You might make a go of it food wise if you're a clever shopper.
Tokyo is an exciting place for a young person. Everything is happening in that city. But talk about crowded. You won't believe the human crush if you ever manage to get here. I don't live in Tokyo. Very far away from that city, in fact. And we do not plan to even visit that ant colony anytime in the near future.

How to dress like a japanese Yanki?

Question:

I am going to do a video with my japanese friend tommarow and she wants my to dress as a yanki. I know what a Yanki is (so please dont explain) but I am wondering anything specific I can wear.

Is Japanese Chewing Gum Safe?

Question:

I was wondering if Japanese chewing gum was safe from nuclear radiation due to the Fukushima nuclear disaster. I am ordering this online, and it is shipped straight from Japan. I am aware that imports from Japan are being scanned for radiation, but was wondering if there is a possibility that it would contain radiation (which packages they ACTUALLY check, and the strength of the geiger counters). Thank you for answering.

P.S. Only SERIOUS answers please. (I am bad at telling sarcasm on this, so it is not funny)

Answer:

It's hard to be serious when you have posted this exact same question over and over. You may think you are funny, but you are just making yourself look like a moron.

Answer..... Yes, it's safe. You can stick it anywhere you like and it will be safe.

Flight to yokosuka japan?

Question:

I live in Greensboro North Carolina. I need a cheap but safe round trip flight to Yokosuka Japan to see my friend. He is in the Navy and hasn't been home in a year! Can someone please post some links or advice on what airport, and overall what I might need for the trip? I want to stay for about a week.

Answer:

Your best bet would be to fly into Narita airport in Tokyo, then take the Nozomi (train) or any train to yokosuka. Any international flight would bring you to Narita, anyways, and then you would be paying an arm and a leg for a private flight to yokosuka. It's really not that far from Tokyo, maybe a 3 hour train ride (that's an estimate).

Also, have no fear: the train station in Tokyo is very English-friendly. Even if you don't know Japanese, almost all employees know english, and even many strangers will drop everything and help you find where you need to go. Japan is very safe and the trains are incredibly efficient and foreigner-friendly. Even their announcements on the trains are in both english and japanese.

Omurice demiglace recipe, please translate?

Question:

can anyone translate this, http://img72.imageshack.us/my.php?image=…

Answer:

I am working on it sir, so thank you for your patience, but here are the ingredients:

(You are supposed to get 600mL or 20 fl oz of the sauce)
Ingredients:
-100g or 0.2lbs bacon
-1 onion
-1/2 carrots
-1 bunch celery
-3 cloves garlic
-200mL red wine
-600mL canned demi glace sauce
-400mL broth
-100mL ketchup
-50mL Worcestershire sauce
-salt, black pepper, vegetable oil, amounts not specified

1. Chop up the vegetables except you "halve" each clove of the garlic, and also chop the bacon

2. Heat up some vegetable oil in the pan, add & saute the bacon, and when it starts smelling really good, add the vegetables and saute them as well until they are browned, over medium heat.

3. Add the red wine to the pan, and simmer over low heat until it is reduced to the point where it looks like about the half of the original amount.

4. Add the demi glace sauce and the broth to the pan.

5. Simmer for about half an hour or until it is thickened.

6. Using your ladle (the huge spoon you serve soups with) and strainer, pick up the vegetable chunks from the sauce and mash them over the pot so that they are back in the sauce but not vegetable chunks but more like V8 (does that make sense?). And then add the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce, and also some salt and pepper to taste.

(I am also really wondering why they decided to use the "mL" in the ingredients section, and I really don't know how to write those things in units like cups or tbsp, etc.)

Place(s) to snorkel and massage in Japan?

Question:

I'm planning on going to Japan for about 3 weeks possibly in September for our honeymoon and was looking for some "typical" honeymoon things to do to add to our very different plan. =) We would like to try snorkeling, but have never gone before so an "easy" beginner friendly place in Japan would be nice if you guys know of any suggestions. Also, I really want to add a relaxing massage/couples massage (NOT a "happy-ending! lol It keeps popping up when I search =/ ) I don't really have a spcific list of things I'm looking for, but if I can keep it in a decent price range, I can get two =P Anyways, sorry for being such a newbie about this, but we've never been out of country before and we are really looking forward to this! Thanks for your help!

Answer:

Ishigaki Island is a popular destination for scuba diving. It is in southern Japan. I would be careful though because Typhoons hit southern japan early autumn and it reaches its peak in early September.

What were the precautions taken by japan for tsunami 2011?

Question:

Answer:

What were the precautions taken by the state of CA for that big earthquake, what, back in the late 80's?

Japan has a set of building codes that go a long way toward protecting buildings. And they have concrete breakwaters along portions of the coast. One village was basically undamaged because the mayor from a long time ago insisted on this huge breakwater. But there is a limit over how much concrete you can pour along the coast of an island nation.

That being said, I think it was pretty stupid to build a nuclear facility that close to the sea and then think a large sand dune would suffice so far as protection.

How much money should I bring for 4 month semester in Japan?

Question:

I am planning to study in Yatsuya, Tokyo. I will hopefully be doing a home-stay and my meals and such will be included. But, for the weekend trips, getting meals at school and buying a whole bunch of souvenirs. I feel like the first 2 weeks I'll spend the most money. I planned out $1,500 or 120,000 yen. Is that not enough, you think?

Answer:

Actually you don't have to play these guessing games about carrying enough money with you. You can carry some with you, but leave the rest in your bank account at home and access what you want through your ATM card. You can get a very good exchange rate and get yen with your card from any Japanese post office.

Maid idol japan work visa?

Question:

In japan, They have maid cafe's. ((I'm hoping to open one in england!))
Anyway, Do you have to be an Idol, before you work at one? Or can you just work at one anyway?
Thanks ^^;;
Also, how would you get a work visa? I hear it's really hard.

Answer:

If you are from England you can get a Working Holiday Visa (no degree needed), come over work part-time. I've met "white" westerners working at maid cafes in Akihabara. Some where Working Holiday, some were students. I didn't talk much to them, but there is a small market for them there apparently and no Japanese is really required. It's sort of the otaku English conversation type of thing, there's a niche for everything in Akihabara. So I wouldn't say you don't have a chance. Just depends on other factors as well. The WHV is good for one year, so make use of it if you want.

There is no commission for that. But some stores will decline to do so because they do not want to take unnecessary time.
