Is there an airplane version of the all rail pass in Japan?

Question:

I know there is the Japan Rail pass where you can purchase a ticket that will give you unlimited travel in Japan (or certain areas) for a set period of time. Is there anything similar with airplanes?

Answer:

The closest thing to it would be JAL's Yokoso Airpass or Welcome to Japan fare; or ANA's Star Alliance Japan Airpass or Visit Japan Fare. (The former for each airline respectively is cheaper and you need to take that airline or one in their frequent flier mileage alliance). You need to get them before you arrive in Japan, and allow a maximum of 5 flights to nearly every airport in the country. It is a huge savings over regular airfare - often less than half the cost per flight.

Japanese important age thing?

Question:

I've read about how there are certain years that are considered especially hard or important. I was wondering what that was called.

Answer:

Some things are not clear.

Are you talking about year in our life? Or talking about year in history?

Addition:
Well, this year in every 60 years is seen as bad as birth year.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bingwu

Important? 20 is important because you become an adult at 20 in Japan. Are you talking about this kind of thing?

Addition2:
It's not the entire Japan thing. Some fortune tellers may say some years are hard. But not everyone in Japan thinks that way.

Whats the cheapest way to get to Japan?

Question:

Answer:

Let's modify your question so that it makes sense by saying "cheapest, realistic" way to get to Japan.

That would be an airplane. And although the ferry would be cheaper, getting to South Korea to catch said ferry kinda' increases overall costs.

Is there any Filipino fashion model in Japan?

Question:

I know the fashion modeling scene in Japan is going to be invaded by Chinese girls, there are many big names of full Chinese heritage, such as Emi Suzuki, Aiku, Wei Son, Hana-chan, etc, to name a few. - very much like the fashion modeling scene in the West where most of the big names are from Brazil or Eastern Europe.

And from what I've heard, Filipino girls are the third most powerful group there.

There are some mixed-race (half white, half black, or half Southeast Asian) girls, but they are all nobodies (i.e. not famous at all). Some of them can be Filipino, but unfortunately are not famous at all, so they don't even have their own Wikipedia pages. I'm talking about 'big names', yea.

I heard this from an actual model, who models mainly for the runway scene and the 'Jelly' magazine. She is full Chinese from the Chinese Shaanxi region and has her twitter account, and she told me that she knew some models from the Philippines.

Do you know any?

Answer:

Models are basically not very famous, but some become very famous if they are "special". As far as I know, there are not too many famous ones (whom you call "big names"), and many models don't seem to want to become famous, they just seem to want money.

I know many Chinese big names, who were born in the continent allegedly as orphans and bought by modeling agencies that use the new international adoption system to give them Japanese citizenships. Some are Far-Eastern Russian, not Chinese, but misunderstood as Chinese.

but Philipino famous ones? I only know Hiromi.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiromi_(model)
Many in the Ranzuki magazine and Vivi magazine are apparently Filipino (lived in the Philippines before immigrating to here), but they are not famous.

Half white? Half black? yea they are nobodies because they are basically used just as step stones. but these two are not nobodies : Jun Hasegawa and Rena, both are half Indian and successful. They are nothing like other half-models who are treated as "sidekicking moggies".

Half Southeast-Asian? I don't know one. I know some full Southeast-Asian ones though.

Why do Japanese people use "odori" more oftenly instead of "mai"?

Question:

I was quite wondering...

Answer:

Originally "Odori" and "Mai" had different meanings, although both words are usually translated in a same English word "Dance".

"Odori" is more active like to jump, bounce and wave. It's image of Carnival Dances in Brazil.
"Mai" is more calm, like to stay one place to make slow spin, move another place without making any footstep sounds.... It's image of "Kabuki" or "Noh" dance.

People don't care this difference too much these days, but they unconsciously distinguish this differences.. Most of western style contemporary dances are sort of "Odori".

Do they have cheer leading in Japan?

Question:

I know it's an odd question, but I'm actually writing a story and it's set in Japan, and the characters are high school students so I was curious. I can't write something without doing research! It's... Politically incorrect!... I don't know. XD Anyway, if they do have cheer leading, can you tell me what it's like? Like is it the same as American cheer leading, completely different? Give me some information please! ^_^ Don't do it for me, do it for the stories! XD Thank you to anyway who answers this in advance!

P.S. Yes, I did look other places for this answer, I couldn't seem to find it. So thank you again!

Answer:

Many high schools and colleges have cheer leading teams. And there is also male version of cheer leading in Japan because many high schools are all-boys. (There could not be cheering in sports matches if there is no male version)

They often wear school uniform when cheering. This is Youtube video of one of them.

This is girl's version.

"Specifacly I want to go to Tokyo and old shrines." Thanks ^.^

Answer:

I'll give it a shot:

Gutaiteki niwa, Tokyo ni ikitakute jinja ni otozuretain desu.
具体的には、東京に行きたくて神社に訪れたいんです。

I guess back-translating it would be (with footnotes in parentheses):

Specifically (although you almost don't need this word-gutaiteki isn't quite 100% appropriate in this context, but your call), I want to go to Tokyo and I want to visit (old is almost implied, so I didn't put it in the Japanese) shrines.

Hope that helps.

Would it be possible For a 15 year old to go to Japan?

Question:

So i'm 15 and i was thinking... I really want to go to Japan but i'd only have enough money for me. i just wanted to visit there for a week or 2. i can speak a little japanese and i think it'd be cool there. i can handle myself really well. but like would it be possible for me to go to there and back? like by Air or Boat or something. or would my parents have to come with me? because i dont think they want to waste time visiting. but i dont want to waste my life. i want to live it with everything i got!! i want to see new places! and get more expirence to be a better person!

Answer:

You can fly with your parents' permission, but you wouldn't be able to rent a hotel. So the pipedream comes to a screeching halt at this point. You did manage to get in a couple of cliches though, "don't want to waste my life", "live it with everything I got" and "get more experience to be a better person". Sounds like a second rate college entrance essay.

How do I say use these words informally, but properly in Japanese?

Question:

I'm attempting to figure the proper order and use of these works
I'm using Bachi in it's slang usage to mean Retribution or Bad Luck, and I'm using the term Maru in the sense of it meaning King, or Circle. (King of Retribution, Circle of Bad Luck) I suppose it should translate to either, but I don't know how to make it both, one, or the other.
Thank you very much to anyone who knows, and answers this question.

Answer:

Retribution or Bad Luck: 罰当たり bachi-atari
"bachi ga ataru zo! (male)" "bachi ga ataru wayo!(female)"
http://ejje.weblio.jp/content/%E7%BD%B0%…

King of Retribution --> 不運王 fuun-ou, 罰当たり王 bachi-atari-ou, 悲劇王 higeki-ou (king of tragedy <--> "女王 jo-ou (queen)" is more used,破滅王 hametsu-ou (ruin, fall)、最もついてない男 mottomo tsuite-nai otoko (the most luckless fellow)
http://ejje.weblio.jp/content/%E3%81%A4%…

Circle of Bad Luck
--> 悪循環 aku-junkan(circulus vitiosus), 不運の連続 fuun no renzoku,不運続き fuun-tsuzuki,

"- maru" is usually used to name a ship "NIppon-maru 日本丸"
if you want to use the word that means 'king', it should be "王 ou"
e.g. "海運王 kaiun-ou" --> Shipping Magnate (Aristo Onassis)
"王者 ouja" e.g. "海の王者シャチ umi no ouja, shachi" --> Orca, the King of the Sea

How much money would i need to have to live in japan for life if you are 16 and have a job?

Question:

i'm mostly getting tired of the limitations of this country and the limitations of being a teenager, so mostly my goal in life is to live in japan for life when i graduate high school or have enough money to leave my parents and live on my own(or in other cases, have a maid helping me with the house stuff)so technically i'm asking you guys this, how much money do i need to do all these things in total amount:
1. to buy a decent car to drive anywhere
2. to buy plane tickets for japan
3. to have a maid in japan
4. to get both japanese and american passports
5. to buy my own japanese house
6. to have a job as an japanese video game seller
and
7. to import goods to family members from japan

so that's all i'm asking and how much would that be in total of american dollars or in yen(which ever is fine)

thank you for reading this!

Answer:

Do you speak Japanese? Becoming a citizen will take a VERY long time.

1. You don't need a car in Japan, public transport is amazing, gas is also very pricey. If you wanted a small car, not different than here $17,000 USD would suffice.

2. Because of the disaster, plane tickets at the moment are affordable. Return plane tickets will set you back $1100-1600 USD from Canada-US to Japan.

3.Maid!? Are you crazy? Like a live-in maid? You would have to pay them the same or MORE than whatever salary a 16 year old could get

4. They don't sell them in vending machine sorry. Japan also does not support dual citizenship,

5. Most people in cities rent. You could get a crappy studio apt in Tokyo for $800 a month. it would be TINY

this is all so bizarre, no education? You would actually not be able to work in JAPAN you need to get a work visa, and often only people with degrees can get that, if not you could only stay short term.

the job market in japan is also horrible.

your plan is crap. sorry.

Why japanese still practise assassination?

Question:

I have a bunch of Japanese ninja on YA trailing me and assassinating my legitimate questions and answers.

Assassination is the most despicable act, there is no less honor than stabbing a person in the back.

I know this is regularly performed by Japan 100 years ago against its neighbours such as Korea and Ryukyu independent supporters.

This is the 21st century so please stop the assassination.

Answer:

Twas I, I am the assassin. I feel no remorse.

Has crooked legs become genetic in Japan?

Question:

I love going to Japan. I go there every year or 2 since I was 10. But 2 weeks ago, I was in Japan and discovered something I never noticed before: 80% of Japanese girls that I saw had crooked legs and 40% of Japanese boys did too. I heard that is was because of the traditional way of sitting down in Japan, which was sitting on your knees. Not many girls in Japan sit like that anymore unless they're wearing a kimono. But normally boys wouldn't sit like that, and they would tend to sit in a lotus position, which normally makes your legs straight. So I'm thinking, since the Japanese women sat on their knees for such a long time during the period where they mainly wore kimonos, it may have become genetic and even spread the "crooked-leg gene" to the men too? I don't know if this sounds silly to anyone else, but is it true?

Answer:

Injuries that happen to you do not impact your DNA.
If your mother loses her leg to diabetes and then gives birth to you, you will not be born missing a leg. And it's not because your father still has his two legs and you got lucky.
Long ago a scientist thinking that things like this only come after generations of body abuse took rats and cut off their tails. And their offspring's tails. And their offspring's offspring's tails. You can see where this is going. He did this for litter after litter after litter but--guess what--all the rats were always born with tails.

Bowlegged-ness isn't caused by any style of sitting or nutrition. It's caused simply by genetics. Crooked legs appear in all countries, but the Japanese "bred" it into themselves. Long ago the walking style that gets created by crooked legs on a woman wearing a kimono was seen as more attractive. Attractive people are more likely to marry and have children as they were favored over others, and since this is a genetic defect where people are naturally born with a more starkly curved tibia bone in the leg the genes get passed down and continue.
The same goes with rats. Take a black-eyed rat and one with red eyes and the genes are going to be passed down. If you keep choosing to breed only the rats that display red eyes or carry the gene for it you're soon going to have a lot of red-eyed rats.

Does Japan have trains for women only? If so why?

Question:

Answer:

If you read about it on some web pages, you could have already known the reason as usually pages talk about its reason.

Some guys try to molest women on trains. So women only car is to avoid it.

It's "women only car" to be accurate. Not women only train. One train has 4-10 cars. (It's less than 4 or more than 10 in some trains). And just 1 of them is a women only car.
