How can I make my Yahoo知恵袋 account private? I mean, that only I can see the questions i've made...?

Question:

Is it possible that all my information can be only viewed by me? I say this because i've seen other japanese people's profile there and i can see their questions and answers too. How can i make my account completely private??

PS: My main page is private. I know cuz it says このページあなただけが
見ることができます。But I want to do is to put all my pages private.

Answer:

There is no way to make it private on 知恵袋.

>I already went to the "help" section and i didnt find anything helpful.

This is because there is no way.

I don't use 知恵袋 for that and other reasons.

Addition:
I'm not "thecheapest041", lol. I wonder how you came up with 041.

Better to use other Japanese Q&A sites like OKWAVE which has private account function. In fact, I'm using OKWAVE when I want to ask something in Japanese.

I'm looking for connections/info about taking a trip to Japan for about a year.?

Question:

I'm 20 and a year out of High School. My first year of college was awful. I have little interest in school. Last November I started studying Japanese and I'm doing very well. I have a solid foundation. I can write and read all the kana and a couple hundred Kanji. I'm currently trying to tackle the grammar. It's an ongoing process; I'm learning and relearning words every day. I'm aiming to become completely fluent. The only way this will happen is if I can spend some time in Japan speaking and being completely emerged in the language. I'm looking for any connections, programs, ideas, or info that can aid me in accomplishing this feat. Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer:

You don't mention what country you are from, but you should be able to get a visa for 90 days. Leave the country for a day or so and then come back in for another 180 days. This extension, according to those on this forum, is not guaranteed. 180 days is your max visit per year.

How are you going to work? Maybe you live in a country where you can get a working visa. That would help. But it wouldn't help when you are out competing with all the other 20 year old Japanese for the jobs that don't require a college education. McDs might work, as well as some small restaurants.

Not going to work?

Airfare - $1500
Hotel - 7000 yen/night x 180 nights
Food - 3000-5000 yen/day x 180 days
Transporation - who knows maybe only 1000 yen on some days, could be 25,000 yen for a round trip on the bullet train somewhere.

Yes. And there are some kind of trains.
Usually,
Naiprita - Narita Express -> Tokyo
Tokyo - Shinkansen Nozomi -> Kyoto
About16,000 yen , 4 hours

Can my girlfriend stay with my host family when she visits me in Japan?

Question:

I'll be staying with a host family when I go to Japan this year for study abroad. My girlfriend (fiance actually) wants to visit me over Christmas. Could she stay with me at our host families house? I mean, what is the Japanese view on such a thing? Would she have to stay in a different room, or could she stay in my room, or would they want her to stay somewhere else, like a hotel? Thanks.

Answer:

I'd show respect for the family and have her stay somewhere else. The family is being nice to allow you to stay there. I think to add another person is asking too much. That would add costs of food, water, power, and also space.
You can also visit her at the hotel when you really want to be alone together...

How much is a train ticket from tokyo to kyoto?

There are some types of trains, Shinkansen(Nozomi, Hikari and Kodama) and normal.
You can find their fees from here. They are about 15,000 - 8,000 YEN.

http://english.jr-central.co.jp/info/far…

You can get cheaper tickets from discount ticket shops. But there are some fakes and almost of all them can not be used in busy season.

There are some tours using Shinkansen, called "Puratto Kodama"(ぷらっとこだま) .
But I can't find English page.

I recommend you to consider Japan Rail pass.

The daily life of a Japanese student?

Question:

I am doing an assignment on a Japanese Student.
--------------------------------------…
IMPORTANT: Just one student, I need a schedule that I'll choose from and use for my assignment, as I am aware just like an Australian schedule, everybodys day varies.
--------------------------------------…
So, I was wondering if a Japanese student or person who has been through the life of a Japanese student, put a general (hourly? 30-minutely?) timeline of your daily schedule. As detailed as possible please and this can be from middle school through to university student<3

An example of what I'm looking for (this is actually approx my daily schedule hehe):

5.30am Wake up
Wash face
Brush teeth
Prepare breakfast (Porridge with apple and honey + green tea or egg on toast or just toast)
6.00am Breakfast while watching TV/checking computer
Wash dishes
6.30am Get dressed
Pack bag
Walk to bus stop
7.00am Catch train

Etc...
Thanks in Advance<3

Answer:

I don't live in Japan but I did for a couple months, and this was my schedule:

5:45am Wake Up
Wash Face
Brush Teeth
Eat Breakfast (I am 13, so my mom prepared me breakfast: Rice, Fish and Miso Soup)
6:00 Get Dressed
Pick out my clothes (Did not have a uniform because I went to a public school)
Do my hair (Japanese people usually do not wear make up or much jewelry to school until high school unless you live in Tokyo)
Pack Bag (I used a traditional bag for young students called a Randoseru if that helps at all... (: )
Say bye to my grandparents and parents (very important, in Japan this is a big sign of respect)
Grab my keys (not for a car! for the house just in case everybody is not home when I get home)
Take elevator down to where my friends are waiting for me
Walk to school with my friends (my school was relatively close, so I could just walk instead of taking a train)
7:00am Go to school
(I'm not sure if you want my school schedule, so please let me know if you need it)
3:00pm Get out of school
3:15pm wait for my friends outside
3:30pm Go to McDonalds or the local convenience store for snacks)
3:45pm either go to a friends house, or go home and study (depending on if I have a test or not)
4:00pm If I go to a friends house, usually I stay there and talk or play games
5:30pm Go home, greet everyone, then do my homework
6:00pm take a shower
6:30pm Eat dinner (dinner is always changing, so I'll just write a traditional Japanese dinner called Nabe: basically a big pot of boiling water with many vegetables and thinly sliced meat. everyone takes what they want to eat out of the pot and puts it in a sauce called Ponzu sauce, or whatever sauce the particular family uses. Afterwards, you put noodles called Udon in it and eat it with the broth left from the meat and vegetables. Desert is usually fruit, a little bit of ice cream if lucky, or nothing at all)
Clean up my dishes
7:15 Get ready for bed (brush my teeth, study a bit more, call a friend) , watch a little bit of TV with my family occasionally
8:30 Unfold my Futon ( A type of bed where you can unfold and fold it up to save room)
Set my alarm
Say goodnight to everyone
Go to bed

Well this is basically a day in Japan! Depending on where you live, this may change. I live more out in the country, so I have to take a train if I want to go to the city where there's more activities and shopping (such as Harajuku). Hope this helped!

Will iPhone 4 (AT&T) work in Japan?

Question:

Answer:

It depends on your phone's service contract, do you have international roaming on it?

Even if you do, I RECOMMEND AGAINST IT, because you will incur huge overseas roaming charges. Some people come back with thousands of dollars in bills because they didn't read their phone contracts.

Better if you rent an iphone in Japan from the airport phone rental office.

Ingredients in Japan?

Question:

I will be using couchsurfing while traveling in Japan. One of the hosts asked me to cook some traditional food from my country. I know they use a lot of different food and spices and I heard it's really hard to find milk and the kind of bread we eat here in Europe.
So I'm wondering how hard or easy it is to find wallnuts, cottage cheese and yeast. And where can I find these?

Answer:

You should be able to find all those things at a decent supermarket. My local supermarket in Japan stocked all those items. If you are having trouble finding certain ingredients there are Western style supermarkets such as Amika and Plant6 that stock all kinds of things from all around the world.

Question about Ukemi(Japanese Grammar)?

Question:

Sensei wa gakuse o shikarimasu
The teacher scold the student.

But if the sentence is in Ukemi form:

Gakuse wa sensei ni shikararemasu

Now what that I don't don't understand is what does that sentence mean, can anyone translate it?
When and in what expression do we use the ukemi form?

Again another exmple:

Normal:1958 nen ni,tokyo tawa o tatemashita.
Ukemi form:Tokyo tawa wa 1958 nen ni tateraremasu

Does both of the sentences have the same meaning?
In why, when and what expression do we use the ukemi form, can anyone explain.

Thanks

Answer:

Ukemi is the passive form. For example in English:
Mr Honda wrote this book
Versus
This book was written by Mr Honda

This form takes the subject of the sentence, the book, and turns it into the object essentially. It's often used to create an air of impartiality. The Japanese use passive form quite often.

The best way to translate your second sentence would be "The student is scolded by the teacher"

There are two other uses of the passive construction which are unique to Japanese. One of those I think is relative to your first example, and that is the adversative-passive. This is used to imply that the speaker has suffered hardship as a result of an action. Another example of this is "ame ni furareta", which is essentially complaining about getting wet from the rain.
The other use is as an honorific. You can tell when it's being used honorifically as the subject and object haven't been reversed.

Finally, you make the honorific form by:
[Object] wa [subject] ni verb stem + areru (u verbs)/rareru (ru verbs)
eg. yomu = yomareru taberu = taberareru
Irregular verbs: suru = sareru kuru = korareru
also, w is inserted after single vowel eg. iu = iwareru

Do I need mosquito repellent in Japan?

Question:

I'm going to Japan in July and August and I'm wondering if I need mosquito repellent with DEET with me.

Answer:

Depends on where you are. There are LOTS of mosquitoes around my house due to it being next to a rice field. And there are a lot of them in the park near my house because of a lake. I've taken the dog for a walk and looked down and had a dozen or so on my legs before. So I use it.

In the city though? Not in my experience.

As for DEET, yes, they have stuff available here. But I like the 100% DEET stuff that really works against those tiger mosquitoes, not that 6% stuff.

Hair in Japanese schools?

Question:

so i'm thinking about becoming an exchange student in japan next year and i heard that there's rules regarding hair and the length. my hair's pretty long, it comes to my belly button. haha. anyway, is it true that they make you cut it if it's too long? or do they not enforce that kind of thing anymore? oh and another thing, i heard hair dying isn't allowed. i don't dye my hair, but the sun has bleached my hair a bit, soo my natural hair color is a dark shade of brown with like auburn, but cause of the sun, my hair's like light brown and different shades of brown and people usually asume that i dyed my hair. is this a problem? i'm korean btw, but i'm also part russian not that anyone can tell. haha.

Answer:

As everyone is saying, it depends on the school. However, no one is going to make you die your hair black because that is not your natural color. As was mentioned above, bi-racial students can have lighter hair. Also, when I went there in high school I had dyed red hair. Everyone assumed it was natural and/or no one said anything.

In short, no worries.
