If you can read japanese what does this mean?

Question:

Hey i found a pair of jeans online with I am pretty sure Japanese writing on it.

They are called Tobari jeans and here is a link.

http://www.jeansface.com/evisu-mens-toba…

please anybody who can translate the writing to english or german for me that would be great because i don't wanna walk around with pants saying something like (strawberry my uncle house in sky) lol thank you in advance.

Answer:

I'm a Japanese native speaker, but I don't understand it. It's random.
It reads like "evisu one god bran" or something, but it doesn't make any sense for me.
I think you could have this as long as you think it looks cool.
I guess you could even walk around Tokyo with this pants.

EDIT:
Other poster is right on saying it's "Evis one god brand".
In your photo, one last letter is not shown becuase it rolled up.

Akb48 fan chants someone know them?

Question:

what are they, and can you translate please? i would be grateful:p

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX44viMD8kc

Answer:

------
The MIX
The MIX are those chants you hear being shouted by the Wotas in lots of AKB songs. They are always shouted during the instrumental parts of the song and never overlap with the girl's singing. MIXes are only shouted in upbeat songs, so you don't shut them during a ballad or slow song. There are many newer variations but these 3 are the main and most important ones.

MIX 1: Yosh iku zoh!!! Tiger, Fire, Cyber, Fiber, Diver, Viber, Jya Jya!!!
The first MIX is used for almost all of AKB48 songs (except the slow ones of course), and is mostly shouted at the beginning of the song. MIX 1 ends just before the members start singing.

MIX 2: Moh iccho iku zoh!!! Torah, Hii, Jinzou, Sen-ii, Ama, Shindou, Kasentobijokyo!!!
MIX 2 is used in the 2nd instrumental in the middle of the song. The only exception is in Ponytail to Shushu where you shout MIX 1 and 2 in the first instrumental, but you still shout the 2nd MIX in the 2nd instrumental. It is never used by it's own and is always after MIX 1.

MIX 3: Moh iccho iku zoh!!! Chape, Ape, Kara, Kira, Rara, Tusuke, Myahottusuke!!!
The third MIX isn't used much, but is still important. The reason why it isn't used much is because it is only shouted during the 3rd instrumental of a song, or in a song with a long 2nd instrumental, and few songs have those. Songs with MIX 3 include: Beginner, Ponytail to Shushu, Kimi no Koto ga Suki Dakara, Wagamama na Nagareboshi, Shonichi, Kodoku na Runner

Being stationed on Okinawa?

Question:

I'm going into the USMC and I'm really contemplating requesting being stationed on Okinawa. I'm wondering what it's like there for example the locals, and nightlife and how conditions are on base all in all if it's worth it. Also if it's important I'll be going there as a fresh 2nd Lt.

Answer:

Okinawa is a wonderful place to live in: people, food, semi-tropical atmosphere, music, beaches...everything is beautiful.

But, one thing you must keep in mind is that local people in Okinawa are fiercely opposed to the presence of US military bases. They like Americans and American culture, but not US military bases. So, when you meet local people, don't tell them that you are a member of USMC. Instead, you'd better pretend to be a tourist from the US.

Let me repeat: people in Okinawa are very nice, very friendly. They have no prejudice against Americans, but, you should always keep in mind that they don't like US military. You should talk and act accordingly. Then, you can enjoy your life in Okinawa.

Difference between ni tomaru and de tomaru?

Question:

I've seen sentence examples in which both the "ni" and "de" particle are used with tomaru, but I can't seem to figure out the difference in nuance between the two particles in this particular case.

For ex:
Kyouwa, kyoukai ni tomaruto ii deshou?
was one sentence.

I also saw
Toukyou ni iku aida oya no tokoro de tomaru tsumori da.

Is there a difference in the usage of ni or de with tomaru?
If there isn't a difference, are both used interchangeably, or is one preferred over the other?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:

to edit (x 2);
"Toukyou ni iku aida oya no tokoro de tomaru tsumori da."
--> "Toukyou ni IRU aida, oya no tokoro ni tomarasete morau tsumorida" sounds right.
or, "Toukyou ni IKU toki ni wa ryoushin(oya) no tokoro de sewa ni naru tsumorida"

-------------------------
"de tomaru で泊まる" is not correct. "泊まる tomaru" usually accompanies "ni" (e.g. ホテルに泊まる hoteru ni tomaru. 病院に泊まる byouin ni tomaru)

To realize the action "tomaru ( 泊まる = to stay)", you need a place/area/spot. In this sense, for the verb "tomaru", "に ni" should be gramatically correct for the usage of preposition.
"で de" sounds more like for "means/ways/reasons", so if looking at "de tomaru" only, it sounds like "止まる to stop"
(e.g. We stop at a red light. "aka-shingou de tomaru", It makes a stop in a harbour "sore wa minato de tomaru" )

Does Himeji Castle in Japan have a tunnel that with the withdrawal of one stone can collapse?

Question:

I was on a tour within Himeji Castle once and was told about a tunnel that would collapse if a certain rock was removed. I cannot find any information online about this tunnel, however, only a haunted one. Does anyone know if this information is true? I am writing a speech and would love to include this information about Himeji Castle. I would appreciate any sources supporting this knowledge.

Answer:

There are many gates with traps in Himeji castle
You must be talking about "にの門 / Ni no Mon" gate. or possibly "るの門 / Ru no Mon"

"にの門 / Ni no Mon" gate is a entrance through the basement level. It's tunnel-like root.
The wooden ceiling panel could be easily removed. Once it removed, any enemies entering thorough this root would be exposed to arrows, stones, and gun-fires from upper level.
http://www.tabisuma.jp/user/obaq/knowled…
http://castle.jpn.org/harima/himeji/7.ht…

"るの門 / Ru no Mon" is also a entrance through the basement level.
This gate was intended to be easily blocked with soil. No pile of sand and soil are around today, but it should be ready in the war time. I'm not sure if it could be collapse only one rock was removed, but I guess there should be something. Also the exit point of the tunnel (castle side) is locate under the stone drop and crenel. Enemies would be also exposed to stone drops, arrows, and gunshots.

Do hallways that decrease in size exist in Himeji Castle in Japan?

Question:

I'm writing a paper and need to find a link or concrete source that supports this idea. I've been on a tour in Japan where I was showed a hallway in which doorways successively were built smaller, in order to allow warriors an advantage against an invading army who would suddenly become bogged up when the space became smaller. I believe I heard the tour guide correctly, but cannot find any other sources that this really exists. Can anyone confirm this?

Answer:

I don't think it's about hallway. I believe it's about the way from the outmost gates to the main buildings.
There are many gates, walls, and branched routes on the way to the main buildings. These are like maze and it's misleading. The first gate is rather bigger and other gates and roots are getting smaller and smaller. Some of narrowest points, only one line of people could go through, and these line exposed to crenel, stone drop, and alley of gunfire. Some part, the gates and/or ceilings are so low that warriors cannot hold their spears and other big and/or long weapons up straight.

Are Okinawans much different looking than other Japanese?

Question:

Answer:

Modern Okinawans look like just regular Japanese from Kyushu, Kansai or Kanto. Maybe their ancestors may have different features but today, you can't barely see it anymore. One obvious feature might be their darker skin tone because of the warm weather there, but there are also people here in the mainland with dark skin tones. Mostly men..

If you fly westward from Los Angeles to Tokyo you will need to adjust your calendar watch for the proper day a?

Question:

Answer:

California (Pacific Standard Time: PST) is 17 hours behind the Japan Standard Time: JST. During the Daylight Saving Time (DST), PST is 16 hours behind the JST.

So, "adjust the watch for the proper day" is not necessarily correct.
During the DST in California (from the 1st Sunday of April to the last Sunday of October), PST and JST share the same day for 8 hours. JST has no DST.
Understand?

Just in case you have a hard time to understand this, all you need to know is:
1) In the summer, LA time is 16 hours behind Japan Time.
2) In the winter, LA time is 17 hours behind Japan Time.

What is the best city or ward in Tokyo?

Question:

Trying to get an apartment in tokyo is hard without knowing exactly where. Which place would be the best place for japanese pop culture, shopping, site seeing, etc.

Answer:

Try Shibuya, it's supposed to be the most well known place for Japanese night-life (other than Roppongi but stay away from there because a lot of foreigner rape goes on all the time) and pop culture, so if you love Japan or know anything about it I'd assume you would already knew about that place.

Can I go to Japan, as a dental hygienist, with a dental team? And if so how do I go about doing so? Thanks!?

Question:

Answer:

Basically, your license does not work in Japan. You have to get dental hygienist license in Japan.

But now, we have had the earthquake. Japanese government announced that foreign doctors would be allowed to work in disaster hit areas without Japanese licenses.

But I'm not sure if dental hygienists are included in "doctor" category. And they are not telling how foreign doctors actually should come to Japan. I think you have to ask local doctor organization or someone.

Were there any warnings for the japan tsunami?

Question:

Answer:

Yes there were. I was watching it live on tv after the first Earthquake hit.
It announced in English, Japanese, Mandarin and Korean that anyone living in the low lying areas around Miyagi prefecture should immediately get to higher ground. But this is not an uncommon warning during big earthquakes. Many people didn't take it seriously or waited too long as they tried to gather things. There was about a 20 min window before the Tsunami impacted with the shore.

Is a simple connection flight at Narita safe?

Question:

I am traveling from JFK to Seoul with a connect flight in Narita. Travelling in mid-June of this year with two kids (9 & 13).

Answer:

It's perfectly safe. In fact flying on an airplane anywhere for a couple hours once will give you more harmful radiation exposure than several weeks/months or more spent living in Tokyo.

But the radiation you get from being on the airplane still isn't anywhere near the amount you need to have health issues.

How long approx will it take japan to get back to normal after the terrible tsunami?

Question:

I just wondered how long it would take (approx.) because it will take a long time to clear up all the rubble etc.
It was a horrible tsunami, I hope it never happens again. I really feel sorry for all the people that live there.

Thanks for you answers.

Answer:

I read a very good article in the New Yorker about the reconstruction of Japan. It might not take as long as the doomsayers are thinking. The article said the most important thing is the ingenuity of the people, and the productivity of the country. And it pointed to the reconstruction of Kobe after their very destructive earthquake as proof. I think it said that Kobe was operating at 97 percent of what it was before their earthquake in a year.

It depends on a lot of things. The psychological damage from the radiation, and the distrust of certain prefecture's agricultural products may slow things down in those regions. Also, the economy has been crap . . . so, this could be a huge stimulus, or it might be the million tons of bricks that broke the camel's back.

But I'm betting on Japan. I think in two years, the country will be functioning on near-normal levels again as a whole, and most of the clean-up will be done.

How is Japan's radiation problem doing?

Question:

I'm supposed to be going to Japan as an exchange student in August 2012 (my program will still be allowing us to go) but my mom said that if the radiation level is still high, then she won't let me go.
I can't find any direct news about the situation.
All the news I can find is about Japan, but there's really nothing about the radiation or the nuclear plant. If you know of a website that stays updated, please tell me! I'd really like to know!
(If I can't go to Japan, then I'll be going to Hong Kong)

Answer:

You're not looking in the right places :-)

Here is a site that has current, factual information with updates a few times per day:
http://www.iaea.org/newscenter/news/tsun…

The bottom line is: "So, in summary: there are some positive indications on the site; precautionary restrictions around the site on certain foodstuffs; and monitoring of the environment is continuing beyond the evacuation zone and at sea. No significant risk to human health has been identified."

So there won't be any problem with being an exchange student in August.

And this chart puts the radiation numbers in perspective:

And here is one that explains the problem:

Animes with Princesses and Princes?

Question:

I'm looking for a romantic anime, say where the girl is a princess and falls in love with a prince or something like that? No yuri or anything perverted. Also, romantic animes with settings in the past would be nice!

Answer:

Romeo x Juliet is one. Its written by the same woman (Reiko Yoshida) who wrote Tokyo Mew Mew.

Sister Princess- written by a shonen yuri author (Sakurako Kimino), but isn't yuri. Its very cute

Princess Knight (a cute old-school Osamu Tezuka shojo anime/manga)

Revolutionary Girl Utena (sorta princess-y, but not really. Subtle yuri themes.Originally written by Be-Papas and this other person...)

Rose of Versaille (super good, old-school, well written famous title. Originally written by Riyoko Ikeda.)

Princess Tutu (cuteness! Magical girl!)

One Piece (a shonen series that has a non-fairytale princess, Princess Vivi. LOL)

(Note: Yuri isn't always perverted, there are some great yuri for straight women that is super cute.
Its just the yuri hentai anime for men that you have to watch out for. ><)

What are some possible jobs for foreigner in Japan?

Question:

I plan on studying abroad in Japan in the distant future, and I want to be able to make some cash while I'm there. What are some possible jobs for a foreigner that's NOT teaching English as a foreign language? I don't have anything against teaching English, but I would like to hear of other opportunities.

Answer:

Officially, it is illegal for exchange students to be employed in Japan (this goes for most other countries as well), with very little exceptions. Unless you are the child of an ambassitor, there is no legal way you can work in Japan under a student visa.

If you are considering working under-the-table, i.e. illegally, than your options are essencially your imagination combined with your ability to get someone to illegally hire you. In most cases, that's impossible for most respectable jobs. However freelancing is probably your best and only option.

People freelance mostly in teaching English. While you may frown on this, please understand that no country anywhere on the planet will hand out cool jobs to foreigners, especially when natives can do the same job with better language skills. However freelancing isn't always limited to teaching, it's just that's the unfortunate stereotype job that English speakers are stuck with (similar to Korean people here having to work in pachinko parlors).

Freelancing outside of teaching can encompass translation, journalism, graphics, virtually anything. However, you must note that you will be competing for work with trained professionals who have much more expirience and ability than you do. They also can do the same work legally, where as you can't.

My advice, if you REALLY want to work with a student visa, you should not turn your nose up at teaching English. Teaching private lessons will usually net you at least 3000 yen an hour (over $30), and I have known people that get as much as 10,000 yen an hour with the right clients. This also opens up to networking, so you can possibly get a better job if you decide to someday change your visa to a working visa... which is a different story altogether.

Social problems that arise from current earthquake in Japan?

Question:

I believe that the lack of educating school aged children is a social problem now due to the earthquake in Japan because the children do not have a school to go to because they have been ruined.

What are some more social problems caused by the earthquake in Japan and can u pls explain xo :)

Answer:

Schools and teachers who are also living in the affected areas are doing what they can to preoccupy and help children and families affected by the quake. But right now the school year ended just as the quake hit. They are all supposed to be on holiday now. So their schooling hasn't really been affected and most children when the new school year comes, will be transfered to areas further inland where schools are still standing.

As for major social problems. I live in Tokyo and there is a phenomenon happening in the city (which was structurally unaffected by the quake) what my friends and i have dubbed 'Tokyo Panic'. This is where Tokyo citizens literally went out and bought anything they could get their hands on at any grocery story they could get to. Please remember that Tokyo is still fine and there was little damage done to the city. We did feel the jolt of the quake but the media freaked everyone out so much that they literally stock pilled as much as they could. They also did this with gas (for what reason I do not know). Every gas station in the city sold out in the days after the quake and continued to do so last week. This week it has seemed to calm down as the big thing now to buy is water. Yesterday on the news they reported that some radiation was found in the Tokyo tap water supply... leading to, you guessed it, Tokyo Panic. Mass crowds raided grocery stores and bought every lick of bottled water in the city. I am actually embarrassed because people in the Tsunami affected regions need more water and gas and food that people living in the convenience of the city.

Why Are People Saying Such Awful Things About Japan After The Tsunami?

Because they are insular thinking idiots who have never actually lived through a disaster and think that just because it occurred in a country other than their own, it is fair game to make tasteless comments and jokes with little/no compassion.

What is Japan's Clean up plan?

Question:

Just need to know if they have a specific plan in use right now or if there just clearing debris and throwing it somewhere else. If there going to recycle what they can or what.

Answer:

Japan is a country huge on recycling. It's required for all households to sort their trash (down to the bottle caps from the bottles in some areas) and you can have your trash returned to you or be sent a letter if you don't sort it properly. So I am sure they're going to use the exact same mindset when it comes to cleaning up.

Help please translate?

Question:

Can you help me translate 2 lines of this website: http://www.flumpool.jp/sp/tour2011/ My friend bought a ticket to a concert of that band but is not sure whether it will push through and where are the venues canceled or postponed. I really want to help her on this because she is very stressed lately so I'm posting this for her.

Any help/translation at least about Sendai (cancellation/postponement/refund) on that site will be appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:

that's a lot of words so i'll just to sum it all up in a nutshell.

The concern tour is not going to be cancelled, however, 2 concerts that are being held on April 2 and 3 will be postponed to June 4 and 5 respectively. The venues for these 2 concerts will also change from Yokosuka Geijutsu Gekijo to Kanagawa Kenmin Hall.

Part of the proceeds of the concert tour will also be donated to the Japanese red cross disaster relief fund.

About the part of the tour in Sendai. The website says that they are unable to confirm the situation and have postponed all ticket sales indefinitely. Any new information will be disseminated at a later date.

Add on:

Yes they have not postponed nor cancel the concert as of yet, only the sale of the tickets. You might have to check back later to see if there are any updates. Reason as above.

I'd like to accept because i love karaoke, but i don't know how does it works:
is she paying for me too? it will be embarassing if I pull out my wallet to pay and she wanted to pay for me, but it will be embarassing also if i am certain that she will pay for me and so i won't make a movie to pay...

Answer:

No, it's not embarrassing for you to pull out your wallet and offer to pay. (-: She'll probably push it away, and you'll say, "No, no, please let me pay something," and she'll push it away again and make t'ching noises, and you'll bow in gratitude and say, "thank you very much."

It's a ritual! Do offer to pay. Don't insist on paying, though.

What are the mainstream political views of the Japanese people?

Question:

Like liberal or conservative.I'm a anarchist who believes in the welfare state.

Answer:

Liberal or Conservative? Japanese politics is not that simple.
But, extremely simply speaking for you, two main issues in Japanese politics today are:
1) Social welfare (for aging society) - Domestic issue.
2) National security (against the thread from DPRK, PRC and Russia) - International relations.
Unfortunately, none of our political parties in Japan has a firm and convincing principle to deal with these issues, which makes majority of Japanese voters disappointed and flee from politics.

thank you!!

Answer:

It's meaningless to talk about average when talking about internet speed in Japan. It depends on area or service.

I'll tell you more.

Around 30% of users are using fiber-optic connection which is usually 100Mbps.

Another 30% is using ADSL which is 8-50Mbps.

The remaining 40% is using dial-up which is 56Kbps or so.

So the difference between fiber-optic and dial-up is more than 1000 times!

It depends on where in Japan you live which services are available. Urban areas like Tokyo or Osaka have more choice.

And when talking about Internet in Japan, you must notice that most cell phones have Internet access like computers do.

Connection speed is lower on cell phone. There is no fiber-optic connection. But you can browse on Internet no matter where you are. So it's important for people.

You need to specify if you include cell phone if you want to talk about average speed.

Years...

What do you think will happen to Japan soon?

Question:

Answer:

I think they will still be in the process of recovering from everything that has happened to them. But eventually (5-8 years) they will make a full recovery and will make sure that they are prepared for any natuaral disaster's that may happen to them in the future. But definitely they will get back on track. Japan is a very successful country with people who are disciplined, this will be the reason for their fast recovery.

Nuclear Reactor Plants in Japan, etc- COSTS?!?

Question:

Hey!! How much do Nuclear Reactor Plants cost in Japan every year? How much damage (money wise) has the recent nucler crisis in Japan caused?

THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

please give me a source, too!

Answer:

- How much damage (money wise) has the recent nucler crisis in Japan caused?

Very little. It's the tsunami that is caused most of the damage. The power plant problem is small potatoes. Here's a site with current, factual information:
http://www.iaea.org/newscenter/news/tsun…

Note particularly:
"So, in summary: there are some positive indications on the site; precautionary restrictions around the site on certain foodstuffs; and monitoring of the environment is continuing beyond the evacuation zone and at sea. No significant risk to human health has been identified."
