Were there any warnings for the japan tsunami?

Yes there were. I was watching it live on tv after the first Earthquake hit.
It announced in English, Japanese, Mandarin and Korean that anyone living in the low lying areas around Miyagi prefecture should immediately get to higher ground. But this is not an uncommon warning during big earthquakes. Many people didn't take it seriously or waited too long as they tried to gather things. There was about a 20 min window before the Tsunami impacted with the shore.
