How much is the average internet speed in Japan?

Question:

downloading speed???

thank you!!

Answer:

It's meaningless to talk about average when talking about internet speed in Japan. It depends on area or service.

I'll tell you more.

Around 30% of users are using fiber-optic connection which is usually 100Mbps.

Another 30% is using ADSL which is 8-50Mbps.

The remaining 40% is using dial-up which is 56Kbps or so.

So the difference between fiber-optic and dial-up is more than 1000 times!

It depends on where in Japan you live which services are available. Urban areas like Tokyo or Osaka have more choice.

And when talking about Internet in Japan, you must notice that most cell phones have Internet access like computers do.

Connection speed is lower on cell phone. There is no fiber-optic connection. But you can browse on Internet no matter where you are. So it's important for people.

You need to specify if you include cell phone if you want to talk about average speed.
