Does Japan have the same two pronged power plugins we do in America?

Question:

I've been wanting to go to Japan in a few years. This would really help me figure out the things i need to get together to go besides the money lol.

Answer:

Sort of. I have never seen an outlet made for three-pronged plugs over there, so if you have anything with three prongs (like a laptop cord) you will need to get an adapter for it. If you have a lot of items with polarized plugs you may also need and adapter. Though you can find outlets for polarized plugs in Japan, many places still have the outlets with two evenly-sized slots for plugs, and a polarized plug won't work in those. The good news is that you should only need a very simple adapter for the prongs. Though Japanese appliances run on a slightly lower voltage than appliances in North America, you don't need a voltage adapter to deal with it. Items like cell phones and laptops generally have an adapter built into the power brick, and other items (like hair dryers) will run, just more slowly and/or without getting as hot (by the way, if you're thinking of bringing a hair dryer to Japan, I would say skip it. Hotels generally supply them in rooms and if you're moving there long-term it makes more sense to just buy a Japanese one.).

» Where can I find the song "Hell Yeah" by London To Tokyo?

Question:

I heard this on lost boys 3 and love it I have looked every where and looked on utube to

Answer:

How is a contributor in Travel Japan supposed to know? The band isn't even Japanese! Just because their band title has the word "Tokyo" in it, you think it's supposed to go here?! Get some common sense and ask this in the music section! WHY did I have to tell you this?!

Who can tell me about The GazettE?

Question:

So, I've always had a place in my heart for Jrock/pop with Gackt, Hyde, and TMRevolution being the top of my music charts, but I kind of picked up on some kpop peoples like TVXQ, Park Hyoshin, and most of YG Family(before hallyu took over the planet) over the past 8-10 years and didn't go looking for much more japanese talent. I recently felt like listening to jrock and came across the gazette after asking around to find out who "that lovely person" was--it was Uruha. He has the most unique lip shape I've ever seen! no Im not a weirdo... Honestly I had heard the name before but i'm not into visual kei, especially after seeing gackt-sama in a skirt and wig that one time(>.>) so i didnt bother to look into them. but i feel like they don't over do it by wearing frilly dresses and im glad i saw them.
1. Can someone tell me about their personalities and a few interesting things about each person? I know aoi loves momiji manju and seems to be the silliest, dancing in the background or w/e which really threw me off because he looked so manly, and they bully kai the cutie but i'd like to know some other stuff too~
2. Any songs you can recommend, not on this list..?
Before I decay
Invisible wall
mayakashi
vortex
Naraku(#2)
Momiji Manju (haha jk)
Taion :(
Hole
Chizuru
Guren
Uncertain Sense(fav)
Filth in the Beauty
Vermin
Cassis
Cockroach
Burial Applicant
Reila
Break Me
Remember the Urge

Answer:

Well.....If you really want to get to know them, watch some videos and comments, if you can read Japanese, follow their blogs. A broad explanation isn't going to help much, each have their own personality, too much to explain. They're just awesome!
I don't listen to them much anymore, to be honest, I love VK, but they're one of my "old" bands...Almost as if I "grew out of them"

I love their song D.L.N.
The others that I love a lot are already on your list..I can't seem to think of any other favourites I might have by them.

Do you consider Japanese Korean songs JPOP?

Question:

I want to know what you guys think..
but like.. ex: SNSD's Gee..
theres a Japanese Version and a Korean Version.
Even though the Japanese version is the same as the Korean version, would you consider the song a JPOP song?

Answer:

Yes I do really. At least, that's what I tag them as in iTunes, I go off the language. But I don't like doing it to songs that have just been translated, and aren't purely Japanese songs like you said. So Gee is technically kpop because it was in Korean first, but Bad Girl is definitely jpop to me.

Why are there few american exchange students that go to Japan?

Question:

I could be wrong about that, but I was just wondering. I would really like to hear answers! :)

Answer:

There are many answers not just one.

One answer could be that many exchange students are just not interested in Japan for one reason or another. Many American's have this glamorous exchange student ideas of visiting places like Paris France and London England (this is supported by a lot of hollywood sterotypes etc), seriously when was the last time you watched a tv show or movie where there was an exchange student or person going on an exchange talking about going to Europe vs going to Japan?

How much would 2 people need to live in Japan comfortably for 3 months?

Question:

im in my first year of college and im going to get a part time job soon. i dont plan to go till probably summer the summer of 2013 cuz of unfortunate financial circumstances aka im super broooke...haha...okay, but the point is my best friend and i are going to go for as long as we can which is 3 months so could i get a rough estimation?

no im not being lazy im going to start looking through hotel prices and plain ticket prices and all that and yea i know its going to change between now and when i actually go, but having a fairly good estimate from people who probably know what theyre talking about would really help.

thanks ^^

the point of going is sightseeing and actually putting our years of sometimes selftaught language practice to use cuz we love japan! so we do wanna move around as much as possible and see as much of the country as people can in 3 months..

well go as many times as the amount of money we can scrape together allows heh.

Answer:

Samurai Japan is heading in the right direction but you might also want to add some other items he does not take into consideration. Specifically,

telecom costs: everyone has a cellphone and you will need one. Also Internet cost (might be included in the hotel bill)
clothes washing/cleaning: you will need to do some laundry at one point
transportation: between large cities (Tokyo to Kyoto) will set you back by about $300 per person round trip.
drinking/going out: I assume you intend to visit the occasional bar
sightseeing: entry tickets, etc.
basic personal needs: haircut, tampons, condoms, aspirin, the occasional soda

Some of the costs can be mitigated. For example, you could lower your hotel costs by finding furnished rooms for rent but the amount he stated for food is serioulsy low. Sure, there will be times where you can find places to eat for 500 Yen per person (e.g. Ramen) but assuming that you will eat on the cheap every single day is unreasonable. I'd say add a bit more!

Worse yet, the Yen keeps strengthening against the dollar and that 110 Yen coke that was worth about $1 a couple of years ago now costs $1.40

and you have not included the price of the air ticket in your analysis

What would I do? work out how much you can save first, decide what places you want to see and THEN decide on the amount of time you want to stay. If your heart is set on 3 months, I'd say aim for 5 thousand per person per month or 30 thousand dollars (yes, a big ouch)

How should I go about starting to learn japanese?

Question:

It just seems so complicated with everything that I am reading. I do know a few words, but I honestly do not know what to learn. I am hearing things like kanja and romanjii. Which I am guess are different dialects. I am not really sure. I am trying to look for a good dictionary. To show me how to write the correct way and has good pronunciations.

Answer:

The best way to learn Japanese is through a variety of methods. You need to work on your grammar, listening, speaking, reading and writing. Its best to think of these as separate categories and focus on each specific category as these require different methods and techniques.

Start by learning the basics through grammar. These books will help get you started

• Shin Nihongo no Kiso I & II
http://japan-australia.blogspot.com/2011…

• An Introduction to Modern Japanese by Osamu Mizutani & Nobuko Mizutani
http://japan-australia.blogspot.com/2011…

• Japanese Demystified by Eriko Sato a self-teaching guide
http://japan-australia.blogspot.com/2011…

I also recommend trying to learn a certain amount of vocab or kanji each day as this helps you build up your vocab and kanji ability. I tried to learn 5 kanji per day or about 20 a week and did the same with vocab.

Watching Japanese anime or any Japanese TV program is a good idea for improving your listening skills and also your vocabulary. Keep a notebook and jot down any new words you hear. Then look them up and find out the meaning.

How do you pronounce ヒョウ (panther) in Japanese?

Question:

the translator lady at google speaks too fast.

Answer:

It's hyou.

The pronunciation is pretty simple, I don't know how else to describe it other than 'hyo' with a bit of 'u' at the end.
Or maybe like saying 'snow' but with the final 'w' sound coming more from your throat and less from your lips.

In most cases in order to work full time in Japan you need to have a University degree and you also require the backing of a company in Japan to sponsor your visa.

Most recruiters for English jobs in Japan will require the following:

The market is really competitive now so they also prefer teaching experience and qualifications such as ESL, TEFL or CELTA.
Salary is usually around 240,000 - 255,000 yen per month depending on experience and qualifications.

Japanese 1000 paper cranes?

Question:

I started to make 1000 paper cranes to make a wish come true and before I start I have a few questions. How many times can you make 1000 cranes to make a wish come true? Do you have to string them? And how long do you have to make them?

Answer:

You only have to fold 1000 to make your wish come true. It doesn't matter how long you take on them, but they should look acceptable if you'd like to display them. All you really have to do is fold all 1000 cranes; you do not have to string them, but I think it looks very nice. You could also put them inside of a jar. :)

Safe in Yokohama, Japan?

Question:

I'm planning on taking the school exchange program with which I would be going to Yokohama, Japan in the summer. With looking on the internet I can't find specifically anything about Yokohama, other than it was hit by the earthquake a bit and everything else is all somewhat outdated. I'm looking for an updated answer on how Yokohama is doing and if there are any radiation, food, and/or water concerns.

Answer:

Everything's normal. The earthquake was a long time ago and didn't leave any lasting damage in Yokohama. You'd get more radiation eating a banana every day.

Everyone's going to be excited to see you. Radiation will be the last thing on your mind.

What does this Japanese sentence mean in English?

Question:

僕は、往路と同じように帰ることはできなかった。

Answer:

僕は means I. 往路 means left/ departed/ came from. 同じようにmeans same. 帰ることはできなかったmeans couldn't go back.
Now if you reassemble the sentence it would be:

I couldn't get back the same way that I had left.

I think the majority of the answers are getting confused with 往路の旅 which means journey.
I hope this helps!!!

Where can I get traditional japanese music like this which is perfect for relaxation?

Question:

Here are some perfect examples of traditional japanese music i like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIO0IERJjRQ&feature=related

and this one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPnRUPwO_ZU&feature=related

The thing that I love most about this music is that it will play something short. then pause for a little bit. then play again and the cycle repeats.

This is the perfect chill out music for everything. reading, sleeping, lounging, etc.

the only problem is, is that those links only provide 1-2 minutes of zen like pleasure.

where can I find something similar and longer?

and what type of music is this called anyways? i like the play and pause style of it. love it.

Answer:

I don't think the both tunes are categorized in a specific genre of music (in Japan). Let's say Japanese healing/relaxing music featuring Shakuhachi.

If you want this instrument exclusively, try "Shakuhachi Meditation Music";
http://theconsciouslife.com/relaxing-mus…

"Shinobue" is another representative of Japanese flutes.

"Zen Garden (de-stress yourself) Relaxation Music" (Japanese flutes, koto, Japanese percussion)
