Why are there few american exchange students that go to Japan?

I could be wrong about that, but I was just wondering. I would really like to hear answers! :)

There are many answers not just one.

One answer could be that many exchange students are just not interested in Japan for one reason or another. Many American's have this glamorous exchange student ideas of visiting places like Paris France and London England (this is supported by a lot of hollywood sterotypes etc), seriously when was the last time you watched a tv show or movie where there was an exchange student or person going on an exchange talking about going to Europe vs going to Japan?
