日本語 Question- gitaigo,giongo meanings?

Question:

Specifically, I'm looking for stuff that appears in manga

for example, ピコッ. That's the one I've been looking for. If anyone knows of a website with onomatopoeia -giongo/gitaigo online please post a link.

And yes I guess that this should be in some other category like learning languages or something, but Japanese people seem to congregate here.

Thanks. Needless to say, if you deliver the goods, I'll give you 10 points.

Answer:

ピコッ reminds me of the sound when pressing mouse button, or when doing Wac-a-mole....

This is not as many as Alc's page (TheCheapest's), but; http://www.rondely.com/zakkaya/dic5/eng.…
-------- additionally:
um...well, when I wrote about Wac-a-mole thing, I was imagining more of the sound (gisei-go), but to think of it, ピコッ could also describe the mole's movement at the game as a 'gitai-go', you know.. like when something "pops out " (ポン、ひょい is also used for sudden 'pop-out' <-- from the page above)
I hope I don't misunderstand your case (I mean, the context your brought)...

Are modern Japanese girls obedient like traditional Japanese women or are they aggressive like Western women?

Question:

Answer:

It depends, but it brings to mind something I have heard about Japanese women...... they are steel covered by silk. And in my experience, the silk starts wearing a bit thin the older they get.

EDIT: And judging from your multitude of negative ignorant comments about the Japanese, it probably makes little difference. You won't be attracting Japanese women period.

Is it compulsory to enroll in the national pension, even if you don't plan on retiring here in Japan?

Question:

Answer:

If you are not Japanese, and if you are not going to live in Japan for 25 years, you don't need to pay. It's totally a waste of money. In fact 40% of the Japanese are not paying.

Older generation is receiving the pension, because they have paid the fee for 25 years, but younger generation does not believe that they can receive it when they get old and retire in the future. I am 95% sure that our national pension system will be malfunctioned in 20 years.

If you were a formal resident in Japan, you are required to "enter" this pension system, but, you can neglect it. You don't need to pay any of your precious money for this foolish system. There is no penalty for it.

As a Japanese, I do highly appreciate our national health-insurance system, but I don't think our national pension system can survive any more. But it is totally up to you whether or not you agree with our social security. If you don't give a dammnn about our social security for our older and the next generations, you don't need to pay an yen for our government unless you were filthy rich like me.

Animate in Ikebukuro, Tokyo?

Question:

A picture I saw showed that the Animate store in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan, has separate floors for certain things (general, boys' comics, girls' comics, adult, etc etc). My question is, do you HAVE to be eighteen to LOOK on the adult floor (not purchase, just look)? In other words, will employees stop you and ask you to head to a different floor? Does it make a difference if an adult is with you or if they are with you while you purchase an item?
Thank you very much in advance.

Answer:

I don't think they will stop you and check your ID just because you are looking at adult section. If you look very young like 12 or 14, they may stop you. But if you look 18 or older, it's OK.

Isshuukan ni vs isshuukan de?

Question:

I've heard both used in similar context and I can't determine the difference between the two.
Ex:
先週一週間で20本以上のビールを飲みました。
Can you also use に instead of で in this situation to keep the meaning the same?

also, I saw 一週間に薬を二回飲みます。
Can you use で in stead of に in this situation?

Is there a slight difference in undertone or meaning if one is used instead of the other?

よろしくお願いします。

Answer:

There is practically little difference in this case. It's not the case in other contexts, though.

How old do you have to be a nurse in Japan?

Question:

What is the age requirement for being a nurse in Japan?

Answer:

We have 2 nurses in Japan, nurse and sub-nurse. Sub-nurse is a job which supports nurses and doctors. That's easier than nurse.

There is no age requirement. But the real requirement is, you have to finish its schools first. Practically, you have to be 18 for sub-nurse and 20 for nurse to finish its school and become each of them.

Please educate me about Japanese culture?

Question:

When people say I love Japanese culture what are they referring to?

Most of my knowledge comes from history and politics. I have watched anime/hentai (for some reasons I just cannot get into or get off by cartoons), godzilla, Japanese porn (why always censor private parts and do those fake girly screams), eat sushi and drive a quality Japanese car, what do people mean when they say "I love Japanese culture?"

Thanks

Answer:

just from what you stated above.. doesn't really say much
about anyones culture as you can find something similar
of these in most developed countries..

I guess people like the culture because it is so different from their own.
people define other culture by using their own culture as a general guideline.
so what is normal to us, isn't always the norm in other countries

So I guess when people say they love Japanese culture..they usually think of the
extreme fashion culture (in some areas of Japan..) and rock music style that just
screams "only in Japan"
but so many people I know say they love Japanese culture when all they do is watch their
anime..and then they make blunt comments about Japan >.>...

But I'm just stating the more obvious contrasts of Japanese culture to mine..I'm sure there are other reasons for people liking the culture other than the ones I already said

I would like to move to japan, will it affect my career?

Question:

I live in UK and have one year left of BA degree in music which afterwards i plan on using to work in composing music for moving image (such as adverts, tv etc).

By doing this i'll need a publishing deal for syncronisation, which will in-effect be my "boss". My question is, If i move to Japan will it effect my publishing deal here in the UK? or am I better of finding an international publisher that's based in japan?

if theirs no sensible answers, please don't answer at all.
-Thanks.

Answer:

You can go to Japan for up to one year on a working holiday visa. Otherwise you need a job offer before you go there. You just can't move there.
Finding a international publisher in Japan might not be so easy. But you may find a UK publisher with offices in Japan.

This boy I have never known/met before?

Question:

            My Interesting Dream

I had a dream while I was taking a nap I met this boy I forgot the location but I remember certain things he was Japanese and he was wearing a traditional Japanese uniform (school uniform) I think I was introduced to him or I bumped into him but when we meet we just looked at each other completely silence Then he smiled and gave me this goofy look, we Then sat down somewhere and we talk I was shy in the dream I could not really look at his face as I was sitting down I he was trying to make eye contact with me while I was just looking straight ahead Then he said something to me or he whispered something to me and out of nowhere I smiled with content. Then we went to numerous other places together and he acted so nice sincere I felt his warmth as we got to know
each other I remember how happy I was and the way he looked and me was so friendly but gentle and warm we were having fun together I believe then after that I woke up. I can't recall what his face looked like it is all a haze I tried to think of his name I do not know but the first name that came to my mind later was Hiro. I can't remember anything else but my dream was interesting I wonder what it means?

But, I remember how goofy he was and shy like a child his hair was either straight down or spiky it's all a blur now. But in one part of the dream I recall hugging him and feeling nothing but a child-like warm happy feeling Like how you wake up on Christmas day. In this dream I felt a scene of realness it felt kind of real I can't remember anymore? Umm his heart when I was hugging him I could feel his heart beating and before we met I think he saw me or spotted me first and then I don't know I think he came over to me or approached me and Oh his eyes I recall when we first met and when he smiled at me I recall how chinky  his eyes were (they were so beautiful) I forgot the rest ahhh? I can't remember anything anymore :( .

He had this delicacy, he was so...? Can't put into words he was? His presence when we were together made everything feel hazy like it was fading everything was so pure gentle I can describe it in words so many things happened. His name was either Akira or Hiro or kazeya can't recall.

How to reach haneda airport to shibuya ku tokyo??? ?

Question:

by train or bus.... And how

Answer:

Time for a realanswer.

1. Take the Keikyu Line train to Shinagawa Station, there, transfer to the Yamanote Line to Shibuya or Shinjuku Stations (Shibuya-ku is very large and covers a area that extends up to Shinjuku Station, it just depends where in Shibuya-ku you want to get off at).

2. Take the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho Station, change to the Yamanaote Line there (follow steps same as above after changing to the Yamanote Line).

3. Take an airport limousine bus to one of the hotels that might be near where you need to go.
See the airport limousine bus website:
http://www.limousinebus.co.jp/en/bus_ser…

Haneda Airport is recently activated as a major international airport, it is reasonable to say that they process thousands of passengers a day, many of which are foreigners and going to major places like Shinjuku, Shibuya etc, their English skills are good enough to point you in the correct directions (but you'll get the same answer as I pointed above).

Is there a wed site that teens can talk to other teens for japan?

Question:

i live in the usa but i want to talk to teens like me inn japan

Answer:

http://www.interpals.net

It's a penpal website for exchanging language. I've met MANY of my friends from that site offline here in Korea (: --- You just make a profile and choose the language you're learning (in your case, Japanese) and it connects you with native speakers of that language. ----------

If you already know a Japanese teen you can ask them to sign you up for a Mixi account, but I don't know how much use they are if you don't speak Japanese. I have one from when my friend invited me to have one, but I never use it (and I got it about 4 years ago).

Should I still go on exchange to Japan?

Question:

The exchange is in December and so far it hasn't been canceled. But a few other of my class mates have dropped out because their parents think its unsafe. My parents also think its unsafe, but they said if the school say it is alright for the exchange to go as planned after they first hand see what the situation is like in Tokyo and run safety reports and the such, then they would send me over for the 1 month. Should i go or give up this amazing opportunity?

Answer:

You should definitly still go. It's the chance of a life time. There is currently no problem with Tokyo especially if you're only going to be there for 1 month.

Is it wrong when I physically harm extreme right-wing Japanese supremists when they come to Australia?

Question:

Answer:

I like your strange questions. You are doing a great job!!
I'm not a right-wing Japanese, but if I had a chance to go there, I would like to fight with kangaroo like this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36tBS6dXo…

I believe we humans should Not fight with animals ,but just in case we need to, we should be totally naked without any fire arms and knives. That is NOT fair! No animals are "beast" Are we calling lions and tigers "beast?" They are NOT!! It is humans who are "beast." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhXWl-QHI…

I practiced karate for 3 years when I was in high school and learned about boxing for a year in my college. But I am not sure if I can beat a kangaroo in Australia.
As to the Australians? I don't give a dammnn.

Why is there so much negativity in the Japan section....?

Question:

Why is there so much negativity and racism in this "Japan" section? I saw many "top-contributors" who only seem to be Japanese supremesists! You know racism is wrong? But they get thumb up for telling people not to come to Japan and things like this. I have met so many Japanese and NO ONE acts like this! I think these people are shaeful to other Japanese :(--- This message board is for asking advice on travel and working/living in Japan .. but the regular posters in here seen the complete opposite of helpful!!!!!!!! Is this how you want to represent Japan? someone might come in here and be discouraged from moving to japan because of you, do you realise?

its terrible...

Answer:

It happens in a lot of the travel sections if you browse around. Don't step foot in travel>Germany. Almost every question gets reported before yahoo reinstates it, and it is common for a helpful answer to get over 100 thumbs down. So many trolls there, it is redic
like this http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

*I'll add to my answer- when a section is devoted to a specific group of people like this is, I think it is easy for the haters to come out like they do

Is there any difference between Japanese and Chinese calligraphy brushes and ink?

Question:

Also, why is it advised to use dry ink instead of bottled ink (liquid)?

Answer:

I believe that there are slight differences, but nothing a novice would notice. I use both Chinese and Japanese brushes. Bottled ink has more glue in it and so it will tend to clog up the inkstone, but if you use dry ink, it takes over an hour to prepare the ink before you start (they say it calms the spirit to do so). At the school I attend nearly everybody uses bottled ink.
