Can you buy things from Amazon.jp if you live in the usa?

Question:

Do you need an amazon.jp account or will an amazon.com account suffice?

Answer:

Look at the terms and condition of each market seller. Like in the U.S, they will detail if they ship abroad or not. If the market seller writes in Japanese, chances are that they don't ship outside of Japan (and if you don't read and understand Japanese you are screwed)

Tell me about your experience going to holiday to Japan!!?

Question:

Answer:

It is an amazing experience. It is a country where the past meets the future. Japan is a country of contrasts with beautiful temples and gardens along with ultra modern and high tech cities.

The highlights of Japan include

Tokyo for its ultra modern city

Kyoto for its culture and ancient temples

Question about Han's hair from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift...?

Question:

Does anybody know what he uses in his hair to get it to stay like that? I currently use an Axe thing, and my hair is about the same length and I wear it the same way as he did. But what I use doesn't last long and looks a bit too oily even when I use barely any. So I'm pretty much wondering if anyone knows what he uses or how he gets it like that, or if anybody has any suggestions for something else that would also work well. Thanks for any advice given.

Answer:

I'm guessing Y!A put this in the Japan section lol

As for the question, only the film producers will know exactly what gel was used. Your best bet would be to go to a salon with a picture of him / his hairstyle and see what they would recommend for it.

Will Japan be ok to go to in November since the floods?

Pencils like Pilot Furu Furu Mousse?

Question:

My favorite mechanical pencil called Furu-Furu Mousse by Pilot was discontinued. I was wondering if anyone knew other mechanical pencils that look very much like it?

http://www.jetpens.com/Pilot-Dr.-Grip-Furu-Furu-Mousse-Pencil-0.5-mm-Light-Blue-Body/pd/1250

I prefer the "wing" on it which I can put something like a cell phone charm on rather than an "arm" (which you can clip to your pocket or papers).

(I know I have put this in the totally wrong category, but there weren't any that fit it. I am assuming that Japan makes many more cute pencils like this) Thank you~!

What about some pens on this page?

How long will it take for japan to recover?

Question:

How long will it take for japan to recover? I had always admired japan, and I am planning to move to japan in 2-3 years. I'm wondering though, will 2-3 years be enough for japan to recover? For example, in Tokyo? Or no?

Answer:

Not enough at all.
Radiation will keep being for more than 30 years.

radiation map on Japan.
http://radiation.goo.ne.jp/

east Japan will never recover. keep sinking in economy, keep giving birth extraordinally childres after
2015...
horrible... its even worse than Cernobil.

I'm in Tokyo right now, but can't drink water(only mineral water), avoiding to eat fish(TEPCO
didn't care about sea water, fish. they abandoned radiation-full water into the sea. this was fatal.)
How can Japs eat safely? We all have radiation in our body.

Government keep hiding informations about radiation, details about Nuclear Units. They hides.
We are desperate. We are cowards. We don't even go to panic, its not to praise, to make fool of in this
situation...
We should get mad but being silent. Media(TV,newspapers) brainwashing people that Japan is
still safe. most majority are idiot to believe these news. but its actually dangerous.

I wanna move to foreign country if I can, so many Japs wanna do.. but can't.
so, I'm gonna move to Hokkaido or Kyusyu in Japan. these places are at least not so near from Fukushima.
Tokyo is only 200 km from Fukushima, its in the dangerous zone. you know Cernobil effected 300KM zones.
4-5 years later People will realize Tokyo is not safe at all. So many children are insanely bone.
if you are wise, u must run away from Tokyo.
Why you come here. 3 years later..
West part of Japan will be your Choice, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka...

Quick easy ten points on a question about yen in japan?!?

Question:

How is yen in japan divided up into different parts and what are their names? Also, what are the values of those different parts?

For Example:
US Currency;
Quarter (Part) = 25 cents (value of that part)
Dime (Part) = 10 cents (value of that part)
Nickel (Part) = 5 cents (value of that part)
Penny (Part) = 1 cent (Value of that part)

And so on, and so on..., so can somebody please help me out here and help me to find all the different parts of yen/how it is divided up, and the values of those parts? Thanks ahead of time!

Answer:

Japan doesn't have names for each coin, like nickel and dime, but there are 1,5,10,50,100, and 500 yen coins. Bills are similar in that there are 1000, 2000, 5000, and 10,000 yen notes. The 2000 yen bill is virtually unused and like a US 2 dollar bill. The public didn't really want it and vending machine makers would not adapt their machines to it.
As of today the yen is about 80.09 to the dollar, depending on which world market you are looking at.
You can easily check the daily changes at sites like www.oanda.com or xe.com - If you want to see pics there's a site with photos at http://www.thejapanfaq.com/japanfaq1c.ht…

Indian girl moving to japan?

Question:

Hey guys, ive lived in canada all my life but i recently found out my father's company is transferring him to japan, so now our whole family is moving. Im SUPER NERVOUS i dont know how to speak japanese and im not really familiar with japanese culture at all.. im so scared. are japanese people nice? should i learn japanese before going? do indians face discrimination in japan?
omg i dont wanna move :(

Answer:

Regardless of the degree of truth about what the other poster wrote regarding racism, you likely won't see any blatant instances. I'd relax if I were you. I knew these 4 fours when I lived in Tokyo. One Indian, two Iranian and one Pakistani. The Indian was married to a Japanese and owned his own restaurant. One Iranian and the Pakistani were married to Japanese, had children and worked in the car part business. The other Iranian had overstayed his visa. He followed my advice and got married to a Japanese woman. He had to leave Japan for a year or so, but it is now back and has a couple of kids. Things can easily work out.

Of course learning the the language is a good idea. Being able to communicate will help with the above issue too. Harder to dislike someone you can communicate with. Of course, it depends on your personality too.

Japanese culture, there are some do's and don'ts. Easiest thing is to do a database search here on this forum using phrases like "Customs in Japan" "Things not to do in Japan" and the like. You'll find a lot of stuff that has already been written and you won't have to wait for an answer.

Do Japanese hate their own indirectness?

Question:

Japanese people I know seem to spend a lot of time saying things they don't mean to avoid saying "no" or saying anything negative directly. To Americans, this comes across as just not being truthful. I wonder, how do Japanese feel about their own "shakou jirei?" Wouldn't it just be easier to say what one means to begin with and not make other people have to guess what they really mean?

Answer:

@ Thardus...... yep, have to say you were rude. You took up that person's time with NO inclination to buy the clothes? Makes you appear rude and inconsiderate. In fact, you WERE rude and inconsiderate. You could have said you were just looking from the outset and proceeded on your own. So maybe you did do what you should have done, admitted flat-out that you were rude and inconsiderate. But that isn't really an example of what is being asked, at least IMHO.

As for whether or not the Japanese hate their own indirectness, I doubt it. I've had many discussions on the matter with my wife and she gives it full support. Directness is often considered rude, especially when it involves a disagreement with another person. That's just the way the Japanese are. Live with it, as they learn it early. Salesmen come to the house and if I answer the door, I first ensure that they are, indeed, a salesman and then I tell them, quite directly but politely, that I am not interested. My youngest daughter heard me doing this the other day and said I was being mean. Sorry. I'm not going to stand around and listen to their spiel, like I see the neighbors do all the time, thus wasting my time and the salesman's. Sorry, not interested. Bye. I'm also not going to get the solar panel salesman to give me all the background on his company, their development techniques, operating costs, pay-back time and everything else about the product and then say, "Oh, sorry, but I don't really want to buy. I'm just interested in solar energy."

EDIT: I have to admit, you lost me entirely with your "Additional Details". That stuff has a really high HF, (Huh Factor).

How much money would I need for a 2 week group trip to Tokyo, Japan?

Question:

I'm gonna be traveling with my friends, next year or so, to Tokyo and I was wondering how much money we should make. There would be 11 of us, and one 15-year-old coming with us, so I wanted to know the money estimate for the plane ticket, hotel, food, and transportation. If you have a good estimate on any of these, please answer!

Answer:

No one on this site can give you an accurate answer since there are too many variables, such as:
what airline will you use, do you fly 1st class, business class, economy, what day of the week you fly on, which month you go in, where you will stay(hostel, business hotel ryokan etc.), where you will eat, what kind of food you will eat, what kind of and how how many souvenirs you will buy, where you will go(sightseeing places), what kind of transportation you use, etc.

My best advice to you is to go see a travel agent, and maybe that agent can arrange for a group discount.

What do the Japanese think of FT Island?

Question:

I am not trying to sound racist. I just really want to know. xD

FT Island has been getting a lot of popularity in Japan lately... but I really want to know what the Japanese think of them. Is their music okay to them? Do they think they're cute? Do they not like Koreans taking over the Japanese music industry? What do they think about them?

Lol thanks. Sorry if this question is confusing or offensive or anything, I just want to know. o__o;

Answer:

I didn't no about FT Island till now.
I just searched and realized its a korean man band.

SNSD, Girls Generation.
thats all I no about Korean girl groups.
FT island seems unpopular in Japan.

you are fun of them so you think they are famous in Japan, too.

I think Asians dont get attention as much as Whites does. Britney, Lady JAJA. look at them

Does anyone have either a map of Tokyo or a satellite image of it that includes train stations and lines?

Question:

There are plenty of maps of just the lines/stations, but I haven't found any that have them appropriately geographically depicted in relation to one another. Thanks!

Answer:

There are many online. Here's just one - http://www.paperlantern.net/map/

You need to search with the word "atlas" not "map". Try google with "bilingual atlas tokyo".

You can also get a very detail book of maps in "Tokyo City Atlas", and "Bilingual Atlas of Tokyo".

What are the similarities between China and Japan?

Question:

I have a essay and I need some info on both the countries

Answer:

This is not the Homework Channel, Homework Man has left the building and questions about China are totally off-topic for this forum. So there's strike 3, you're out.

On your way out though, (and here's your answer), try www.google.com. Type in the last four words of your question. You'll get a lot of links. You decide what is significant, what isn't. That is called learning and that is what your teacher wants you to do.

Honestly, school kids these days. You have the internet and super easy access to all kinds of info and you STILL want someone else to do your homework for you. Get off your lazy butt and do it yourself, kid.

Final Answer..... www.google.com has your answer, but only you can decide which ones to use.

Question for my book! About the area's in Tokyo...?

Question:

Hello!
I'm writing a book about a girl going to Japan to visit her aunt.
Her aunt lives in Tokyo. But when I was staring at my screen I thought: and now? Tokyo is so freaking huge!! Where exactly does she live? I want my story to be as realistic as possible so I need to know... So my question is: Which area is a good place to live for a woman around the mid thirties, single and having a job as accountant (or something like that, it has to be a office job!)?
In my story she is living in a 3 room apartment (bedroom, guestroom and living-room with kitchen)
I want the place to be close to an airport but not too close if you get what I mean. (around a 2 hours drive?)

The girl that is visiting her aunt will go to a middle school (she's 15 years old). She goes to her school on a bicycle and I want the drive to school to be around 15-20 minutes. The area needs to be lively and crowded, but clean. Somewhere in a book about Japan I read that Tokyo is a confusing city. Streets with dead ends, winding roads and such seem to be common. So the girl loses her way on the first day to school. She meets a couple of people from her new school and they help her. I don't know how the road to school looks like in Tokyo, so it would help if you would tell me.

So my questions are:

- Which area is a good place to live for a woman around the mid thirties, single and having a job as accountant (or something like that, it has to be a office job!)?
- In that area how are the people? (friendly? good in English? fashionable? stuff like that)
- how does a common road to school look like?
- What can you do there for fun as a teenager? (clubs, karaoke?)

Just tell me as many things possible about the area!
Thanks!!

Answer:

1) An accountant would be about median income bracket in Japan, which means she is not going to have a 3 room apartment. More likely a two room or even one room, not counting the bathroom. There are families of 3 or more living in such arrangement, so unless her aunt is wealthy, this is more realistic.

2) Because of the very efficient mass transit system in Tokyo and all of Japan, professionals such as an accountant do not have to live near the office which is usually located in one of the business wards. Plus, the closer you live within Tokyo, the higher the rent so living further away cost less even with the longer commute. I have friends who live in Yokohama and work in Tokyo. Some even live further out. There are families who have been living in Tokyo for several generations which we call Edo-ko's and you'll find them around Tokyo. The working mans neighborhood would be such places a Shitamachi or Shibamata (Katsushika ward).

3) You need to read more about Japan. Most people do not own a car, and if they do they use it mainly for rare recreation or for emergencies. No middle income person drives to the Airport if they can help it. There many forms of public and even commerical transportation that serves the airport and Tokyo. And Narita or Haneya are both well within 2 hours of just about every part of Tokyo. You need to understand that the mass transit system is extremely efficient and well thoughtout.

4) Most students do not ride bicycles to school. They prefer to walk or take the bus or subways which makes it almost impossible to take a bicycle with them. Plus, the roads and streets in Tokyo are not really designed for a nice leisurely bike ride - it's quite hectic and walking is much easier and safer.

5) Roads and streets in Japan and especially in Tokyo are extremely well maintained and absolutely smooth. It is almost impossible to find a pot hole in Tokyo. Unless you have been to Japan, you truely do not know how bad things are in other countries.

6) You need to read more about Japan. From your questions, you do not know enough to be able to write a believeable story. For example, things are very expensive in Japan and Tokyo is the most expensive city in Japan. Food, fuel, everything is costly and teenages from middle income families do not have the money nor the time to indulge in the clubs or karaoke scene. There are sports and school related clubs, but the premary focus for a teen is getting the highest possible score on their college extrance examine so they can go to a good college and get a decent job. This is even more crucial because of the dire economic times Japan is faced with - high unemployment due to the recession that has lasted for more than 10 years. Everybody knows somebody who is hurting, and it is scary.

Hello, Im looking at going to Tokyo next year?

Question:

After the horrific earth quake that struck the country, will it be ok to visit this place nest year.

Thanks

Answer:

Japan was hit hard by the disaster, but only 0.1 per cent of Japan was affected by the tsunami and the area that was affected is not a popular destination for tourists to Japan. Most tourists to Japan either visit the ski resorts in the north island of Hokkaido, which was not affected, or follow the “Golden Route” from Tokyo along the southeast coast to Hiroshima. The route include Hakone, Nagoya, and the traditional cities of Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Okayama. Most tourist attractions in Japan are now open, although some may have shortened opening hours to conserve power. All international airports are operating and this even includes Sendai Airport, which was damaged by the tsunami, and the bullet trains are all running as normal.

With all this occurring, tourists are still unsure whether or not to visit Japan mainly due to lack of information and not researching. The smart people who have done their research realize that Japan is pretty safe to visit.

How to pronounce vowel sounds like ae, ui, oi, and other combinations.?

Question:

I'm good at pronouncing right now but I want to be sure I have vowel sounds that are put together right. I am also wondering about the Hiragana combinations rya, ryu, and ryo. I have no idea how to pronounce an r next to a y. :)

Answer:

ae is more like 'ai' than 'ay' but without the final dragged out 'i' sound (this is not a good explanation but dont worry, more on this later)

ui is like saying 'gooey' quickly without the g...I really dont know how someone could mess this one up.

Oi...oy as in oy vay or ozzie ozzie ozzie oi oi oi...

My written explanations might not be good. You can go to google translate or http://virtualfrenchtutor.com/site.php/s… and input あえ、うい、おい、etc in and click listen. (virtual french tutor is very good for this purpose)
You can also input the following to hear these sounds used in words like:
Sanae さなえ
Hae はえ

Yui ゆい

Nioi におい

As for ryu, ryo etc, I also had a hard time getting my tongue around this when I first started learning, but I quickly got the hang of it. It helps to start out by saying 'dyu', 'dyo', 'dya' and then transitioning your tongue to just behind your top teeth.

Are there any private beaches in Japan?

Question:

Are there any private beaches in japan, where if you went you wouldn't see any other people? possible with a cabin or near mountains?

Answer:

Well, you have to pay some, or much money to rent a beach even if there are some private ones. But I don't think there are many in Japan.

How much Japanese will I learn in 5 weeks while I am in Japan?

Question:

I really want to learn Japanese and I have tried to study it before in a university here in England but it was only 2 hours a week and once class had finished, I had no one to practice with so I forgot a lot of it by the next weeks class. Even now I can only remember one or two sentences.

However, I want to do a Japanese language course actually in Japan but the most I can afford is 5 weeks (the school I want to go to says this is the average number of weeks most people stay).

You can go over with very little Japanese but they suggest that you learn Hirigana first as much as possible though they will help you if you are struggling with it when you land.

The lessons are 20 hours a week and accommodation is provided with the school. The price is around 197,032 Yen not including money for shopping and activities. The school is based in Fukuoka.

Do you think this is worth it? I can't do the Jet Program because I haven't got an undergrad degree so the option of learning Japanese while teaching English isn't an option for me :/

Thanks

Answer:

Please be aware that Japanese is one of the most difficult languages to learn and grasp. Say if you were spending 5 weeks in Italy to learn Italian then yes you will learn a lot. 5 weeks is not enough in my opinion to learn even the basics of Japanese

Question:

i'm going to post a video link in a bit here when i've uploaded a vid to youtube
was just wondering some of the lyrics of this japanese song that was in the beginning of a tv show one time....
thanks

Answer:

Well, I wish you wouldn't. At least spring it on us with no notice. Kinda' like going to the dentist and him walking around the chair saying "I'm gonna' stick you with this needle in a second." Better yet, Japanese dentists who want to start and you just tell them if it hurts. It hurts already. Go to the forum where they only speak Japanese and get some help there.

Final Answer.... Yes, there are some people here who understand Japanese or Chinese. (Gotta' get that ANSWER in there or get reported for not answering the question.)

Are there many people working in the Japanese entertainment industry with Chinese background?

Question:

Answer:

Not so many.
I know only Rola Chen.
Agnes Chan is very famous but she is from Hong Kong.
In Japan, Hong Kong people are counted as Hong Kong people, not Chinese.
And others are almost Taiwanese.

Japanese: mono vs. koto?

Question:

So, if I remember correctly, mono is more of a tangible 'thing' than koto, right?
My question is, which would you use to describe something like blood type, or zodiac sign (for horoscope)? I think zodiac sign is more of an idea than an object, but for blood type I'm not too sure.
Thanks in advance!! ^^

Answer:

Mono and Koto both mean "thing" in Japanese. In case of blood type, I cannot tell you systematically, but we use the following way.
Ketsueki gata (blood type) to iu mono wa amari shinyo shite wa ikenai.
Ketsueki gata bakari iu koto wa saketa ho ga yoi.
Hoping it will be of help.

Why are many Japanese so serious?

Question:

It seems only a few Japanese have a sense of humor and not afraid to poke fun at themselves.

Answer:

good question. I have always realized this point while on Yamanote line.
everybody is serious.
as if life is a serious road to carry heavy things just like Ieyasu said in his late years.
instead, Yankee always try to say humourous things when someone is seriously transactiong things.

its because Manner always prior to relax(humour).
this comes from a religion calls Jyukyou(儒教)still influencing in our society.

very unconfortable. very strict and stressful in such society.
WHat elders say is always be obeyed even if it is obviously wrong.
