Indian girl moving to japan?

Question:

Hey guys, ive lived in canada all my life but i recently found out my father's company is transferring him to japan, so now our whole family is moving. Im SUPER NERVOUS i dont know how to speak japanese and im not really familiar with japanese culture at all.. im so scared. are japanese people nice? should i learn japanese before going? do indians face discrimination in japan?
omg i dont wanna move :(

Answer:

Regardless of the degree of truth about what the other poster wrote regarding racism, you likely won't see any blatant instances. I'd relax if I were you. I knew these 4 fours when I lived in Tokyo. One Indian, two Iranian and one Pakistani. The Indian was married to a Japanese and owned his own restaurant. One Iranian and the Pakistani were married to Japanese, had children and worked in the car part business. The other Iranian had overstayed his visa. He followed my advice and got married to a Japanese woman. He had to leave Japan for a year or so, but it is now back and has a couple of kids. Things can easily work out.

Of course learning the the language is a good idea. Being able to communicate will help with the above issue too. Harder to dislike someone you can communicate with. Of course, it depends on your personality too.

Japanese culture, there are some do's and don'ts. Easiest thing is to do a database search here on this forum using phrases like "Customs in Japan" "Things not to do in Japan" and the like. You'll find a lot of stuff that has already been written and you won't have to wait for an answer.
