It is difficult to catch the desirable unrecognized word with Rickaichan. How to fix it?

Question:

I am using Rikaichan on Firefox. However, it is difficult to catch the desirable unrecognized word with Rickaichan. How to fix it?

Answer:

What do you mean it is difficult to catch? From my 2 weeks experience of using Rikaichan, you just have to move your mouse and move it until you find the meaning that makes sense. If after this I can't get a word with satisfying meaning, I just move on to the next word.

Starting new life in Japan?

Question:

I am going to graduate college in a little while and i want to start a new life in Japan. How do i do that? Please help me.

Answer:

Unlike the US, Japan is not a land of opportunity. There is no opportunity here. If you can't make a living in your country, you can never make it in Japan. The situation is much harder for foreigners.

Do your best in your country and be successful, then come to Japan.
You may find a chance to develop your business or expand your special talent here in Japan, if you want.

My message is "be successful in your country before coming to Japan."
Japan is not a land of opportunity.

Airport change in Tokyo, Japan?

Question:

I noticed on my ticket that it has a warning to "change airports." Is there a connecting rail way between Tokyo Narita (NRT) and Tokyo Haneda (HND), or will I have to get a taxi and go through security again at the Handea airport.

Answer:

The orange limousine bus is your best bet - it goes straight from airport to airport for 3000 yen. Typically you need about a 3 hours connection time to connect to a domestic flight within Japan, or 3 and a half hours for connecting to another international flight. The bus doesn't take that long but that is the margin of safety in case of traffic.
DO NOT take a taxi under any circumstances - you will be broke.

White girl in asian perspective?

Question:

Hi there!

This summer I'm moving to China or Japan for my father's job.
I'm a white girl, age 16 currently living in Canada!

I just had a question, and please, don't think I'm insecure... and don't take this question offensively. I'm just asking out of curiosity!
When I go to China, what will they think of me? I mean, what do asians think of caucasian girls?

Are our features exotic to them? Do they like features like that... or is it considered not as pretty?
Thankyou very much!

Also, I'd just like to know about younger white girls, not so much the perspective on older youths.

What do you of asian descent living in Canada/America think of white girls?

Thanks!!

Answer:

If your talking "men" well a lot of them will probably like you.
(I am not asian, but I have many Japanese friends +dated asian men and most of them love white girls...most of them are boys to ^^")

Just like white guys view asian women exotic ,asian men view white/black/Hispanic exotic .

However girls are another story... ( but really this is like most girls any where , but I was told that you should be more careful of high school girls in Japan then boys)
In Japan people are very friendly. (elderly ,middle age, etc)

I don't know a lot about Chinese people though , Japan and Korea are more my speed of knowledge of people.

I recommend going on Lang8.com and make friends through that to see :) I have over 200 and every ones really nice.

Does the nucler radiation fallout from Japan affect weather patterns globally?

Question:

Could it be what is adding fuel to the tornadoes ravaging the US

Answer:

Possibly global warming has something to do with the tornadoes . . . that's the fallout from using carbon fuels like coal and gasoline. The nuclear radiation just rides on the winds . . . it doesn't add any energy to the winds, really.

But actually, I think it's a case of statistics. It's been a long time since a bunch of tornadoes hit populated areas. In general, there's more open space (corn fields and things) in Tornado Alley than there are cities. I think it's just plain bad luck that these tornadoes have hit cities this year. I remember old newspapers talking about six or seven tornadoes hitting places in Nebraska (Grand Island, for example, and I think Omaha also got hit by some). But it's kind of like the saying, "Lightening never strikes twice." It would be very odd if the same places were hit over and over and over again by tornadoes.

A feudal society emerged in Japan as a result of what?

Question:

legit answers please =)

Answer:

After thousands of years of battle among Shogun to rule the Nation. It brought STOP to all this when the feudal society emerged finally uniting the country with better legal system and brought peace. Until USA cut off supplies so that Japan wont gain much control over in South East Asia, upsetting Japan making them attack Pearl Harbor. Now USA were able to happily be involved with a war against Japan. Blaming Japan for "attacking us first" so we went to bomb two major cities and took over the power in the end ! God Bless USA~!

Do the japanese people hate westerners?

Question:

i love all things japanese and i plan to move to japan one day, but i've been seeing ALOT of videos online saying how much they supposedly hate us? is this true? oh and i'm half irish and half hispanic so is it just towards white people? btw it would be great to get some answers from people from japan because this is all so confusing -__-

Answer:

We do not hate westerners. But it's true, as Japanese economy is slumping, that there are some people who try to put their frustration on foreigners. Like neo-Nazi.

But unlike neo-Nazi, those people in Japan tend to act only on Internet and never act in real world. That's why you saw videos like that. You don't have to worry about it so much.

How can i get a japanese boyfriend?

Question:

i mean like is there something special or secret that i should do or something

Answer:

hehe...
Well..honestly its not that hard.
if you ever watched anime guys really do confess to girls like in anime (no joke)
I don't mean to sounds like i am bragging but I've been confessed to a lot by Japanese men "watashi wa suki desu Rachel chan"

I met a lot of Japanese guys on language learning websites and then I add them on skype (if i trust them somewhat) and then facebook . Now I at least know 300 japanese people
One thing you should do is try learning the language and asking a Japanese guy to help you ,who also wants to improve his english.

FYI Japanese men can be kinda shy so its not a bad thing to be a little forward.

other then this advice you should go to Japan or scope them out at colleges.

What would it be like for an American to move to Tokyo?

Question:

....alone?

Answer:

It would be scary but a lot of fun if you can surround yourself with some sort of community, like a workplace (lots of Americans teach English), shared interest clubs (like international exchange coffee hours, etc) or look up friends of friends who live there. You have to be proactive about creating these social groups, too.

I would check out some blogs by foreigners living in Japan. Here are some of my favorites -- note a lot of them are tongue-in-cheek, or might even seem a little bitter, but for the most part they tell you the fun parts and the hard parts honestly:

If I wanted to open a cloth's and jewellery shop in Japan (a road shop thing/stall)...?

Question:

How would I go about doing it? I always wanted to open a shop of things that I like - Indian clothes. If I wanted to do that in Japan, do I have to be a Japanese citizen? Is there any possibility of trading in the streets etc.? Or can I just act as a supplier to some Japanese person who is in Japan?

Answer:

Not as simple as it sounds. I am into business so have some knowledge into how it works. In Japan like most western countries, you don't have to be a citizen but you need to get the required visa - in most places it is called business, investor or entrepreneurial visa. (You could get a work permit but that would entail the usual i.e. 4yr degree, job offer etc which you might do on the side if you can juggle both)

The main requirement for this visa is that you invest your money/capital into the business and you must show them that you have the capital. The amount varies from country to country - in the U.K it is £300k minimum.

Do you need to hire locals? this varies from country to country. In the U.K you have to hire at least two locals in Japan it is not compulsory.

The sticking point here is the capital. If you don't have enough, you won't get the visa (they don't want you to borrow money from the local banks but rather borrow money from the bank in your country if it needs be). From your business model, i can tell you don't need $400k to start it. Of course if you became a citizen or permanent resident, you could start a business with less hassle and avoid all these bureaucracies

Why is Japan such a homogenous society?

What are some popular goods and items in Japan?

Question:

I am thinking about doing exporting / importing business with my family friends lives in Japan. I am in the US of course, but I have no idea what is popular or hip in the USA that would also sell in Japan. Also we must keep generating goods and how will I go by keep on finding popular items to keep the business going ?? any idea ? We are currently thinking of bug out bag stuff, but not sure yet.

Answer:

I am not sure whether you ask about American goods that Japanese would be interested in buying or Japanese goods that Americans would be interested in buying.
Well, talking about learning English, I think maybe English children's books, books, magazines and CD's/DVD's ( I don't know whether it's legal to sell CD/DVD though), however information always sells (for me).
Talking about Japanese goods that Americans would be interested to buy. There would be a lot more like manga in Japanese, Japanese fashion items, clothes, toys, children's books, books and magazines. Thinking about how everyone likes Japanese movies and dramas, maybe DVD's and CD's. Most of these are available on www.amazon.co.jp though.

Is a Visa necessary to enter Japan?

Question:

I am traveling from Chicago IL and want to know if I need a Visa to travel to Japan or just a passport?

Answer:

ALL visitors to Japan require a Visa to enter the country.
However, Japan has reciprocal waiver agreements with many countries, including the USA and Canada.
This means that a visitor from these countries can simply present their passport and return flight documentation, and after inspection, Immigration officials will place a 'Temporary Visitor' stamp and Visa inside their passport. This Stamp acts as an official Visa.
Upon leaving Japan, Japanese government officials will remove the Visa document they attached when you entered the country, thereby making it invalid.

What's the most difficult about the Japanese language (for you)?

Question:

Answer:

I guess the kanji, but honestly... it's just the language in general. As someone that actually studied ethnolinguistics albeit not too intensely, the Japanese language has to be among the most horrifically constructed and inefficient languages in the planet. I say this with love for the language. In fact, I'm up to 1200 Kanji as of today (reading/writing the whole shazam) and am currently reading a Murakami essay in Japanese.

It's a beautiful language both sonorously and visually, but it's limitations are apparent when even native Japanese people have to clarify with each other while talking about what they just talked about. The sounds that can be produced are extremely limited thus leading to an insane amount of homonyms which is precisely why Chinese characters are considered necessary. The usage of grammatical points such as commas, colons, and periods should be used more aggressively as reading Japanese itself is physically straining to the eye with what would seem to an English speaker as a continuation of run-on sentences.

It's a shame honestly. I recall a couple of decades back, the Japanese literati made a serious push to abolish Chinese but found that the Japanese language wasn't self-sufficient enough as a means of communication without Chinese characters.

Also, it's purely horizontal. It doesn't have true "vowels," it's basically just sounds associated with each Chinese character with many permutations depending on its adjacent Chinese characters and depending on what position it is (front, rear, etc...)

I'm fluent in English, Korean, Spanish, and speak a bit of French, and my survival Japanese is quite decent if my 5 months in Japan of talking to random Japanese strangers and uh... not dying is any indication. My success with language acquisition has largely been to just memorize the living crap out of the most common used vocabularies of a language (usually about 5,000 to 7,000 words), then quickly master basic grammar points, then proceed straightforward to simple children's books and inquiring about unknown grammar and vocab. In fact, I've asked quite a bit of grammar questions right here in the Japan forums. With Japanese, this becomes impossible due to the sheer amount of Kanji you have to memorize. Even when you know how to write the Kanji and know the numerous and disconsonant meanings of the Kanji, it still doesn't mean you can read it.

Honestly, I could have probably learned 3 languages in the time I've spent studying and will have to continue to study for Japanese. Speaking isn't difficult especially since the Japanese grammar is almost 90 percent the same as Korean, it's just the structure of the language itself.

I'm starting to get better exponentially lately though. It's a very tough learning curve that's for sure.

Why do Japanese think they don't need English?

Question:

I've chatted to one Japanese and he said they are not good in English because most of the Japanese think they will never have to use it. So English seems unnecessary for them. At the same time they are "studying English real hard". However with the believe that they will NEVER need it, so why is it popular to study English in Japan then?

Answer:

We study English because it is needed to study at school.
Japanese have realized its importance, but at the same time we believe it's rare to speak, write in English in Japan.
I think it's partly because that Japan has a great number of information sources that provide us a vast range of information in Japanese so we don't quite feel that we need to study English for the purpose to get knowledge written in English as opposed to other people living in rather small countries that have only small information sources.

Question:

I love all things Japanese!!!

I love Japan!!!

I drive Honda Accord and play a Yamaha piano. I also have a Yamaha guitar and Shimano fishing rod.

I love Japan!!!

How can I move to Japan?

I have investment banking experience and have excellent English/Chinese.

I am willing to do anything. I can become cleaner if needed.

Thank you!!!

Japanese are awesome!!!

I love Japan!!! :)

Answer:

Given your previous comments regarding many things Japanese, I don't think you would be happy here. And the Japanese would almost certainly not find you pleasant to be around.

If you are determined, visit you local Japanese embassy. If you need a reference, don't come looking to me.

NOTE: Anyone who has read your posts know that you are more than just a bit racist. Definitely a troll. Even you comment was a snide comment towards Japanese people. As for me, I couldn't care less whether you appreciate my honesty or not. Now, run along and play in traffic.
