Question:

⇒商品一覧に「キャンセル済」商品が含まれる場合がございます。
「キャンセル済」商品とは:短時間にご注文が集中し欠品している商品です。

Answer:

I think this Japanese is not correct. But I'll tell you what it means.

⇒商品一覧に「キャンセル済」商品が含まれる場合がございます。

"canceled" product means that the products ordered much in a short period and out of stock.

Can a normal person afford this (Tokyo apartment)?

Question:

If you are living and working in Tokyo, would 220,000 - 340,000 yen be payable rent between two working people if all amenities are included - including water, electricity, heating/air conditioning and internet? Or can only a super rich person afford that?

Already asked this, but I think my question wasn't very clear. Still kinda vague, I'm sorry.

Answer:

No.
It's way too expensive.

The average annual income of early 20's are something around 2,500,000 YEN, that of early 30's are less than 4,000,000 Yen, give or take. Average income around Tokyo area may be higher, but not that much. Plus many people cannot even get full time job these days.
In general, it is said that apartment payment should be less than about 1/3 of monthly income.

If your apartment locate very good place in Tokyo, 220,000 - 340,000 yen is understandable price range, but average Japanese person with average income cannot pay for that, even by two. Only rich people or people whose rent would be payed by companies consider to rent in good locations in Tokyo. That price range is just slightly cheaper than staying in middle classed hotels for a month in Tokyo.
Tokyo has very good public transportation, so you could commute to the center even from outside of Tokyo. Even in cheaper neighborhood, Japan is safe and comfortable place to live. That's the way most of "average" people do.

I roughly guess average rent for one young person is something less than 80,000 Yen. Average rent for a family is not more than 200,000 Yen. Amenities are usually not included for these apartment and these are not usually furnished, however: it's even cheaper to purchase all furniture and appliances and whatsoever you like, rather than living 340,000 Yen apartment.

I'm not sure your expected income, but I guess you should start with 150,000 Yen or less for two working people?
Japanese rent contract is usually valid for 2 years.
You could move to other place 2 years later, if you wanted something better.

Going to be in Tokyo for two weeks and have a JR pass for one, what to see?

Question:

I am going to be in Tokyo for two weeks next month (January) and looking at picking up a one week JR pass before I go. I am curious what people recommend as some of the most see places around Japan I should try and make it to?

So far I am most likely going to go to Kyoto and probably Nara, but the rest is open. My main goal is to see some of the smaller areas of Japan to experience more than just Tokyo while I am there.

Thank you for any ideas!

Answer:

JR Pass is good only if you take long distance trains several times. And Nara or Kyoto are far away from Tokyo.

If you want to purchase JR Pass, buy it only for days you take trains to go to Nara or Kyoto, and back. You don't need JR Pass if you stay within Tokyo.

Traveling to Japan and need to be able to use iPhone with Soft bank?

Question:

Will soft bank unlock my phone or do i have to get att to do it?

Answer:

It's not a matter of unlocking.

The question is, will you be using AT&T's international roaming/data plans? If so it will be using softbank's network, but AT&T will be charging you ( ALOT).

My recommendation is, forget about it. Instead, either rent a Japanese iphone in Japan, or rent a mobile wifi device, so you can use your iphones wifi for data and just use skype for international calling.

Best Supermarkets in Tokyo?

Question:

I'm looking for a large supermarket as close to central Tokyo as possible. My hotel is located at Nakameguro station so i'm not staying right in the central of Tokyo. I need a supermarket selling Japanese produce so I can take some back home to England such as sweets, wagashi, mirin and other japanese foods that are hard to find in england. We would also like to experience a japanese supermarket and see all the different cool stuff on offer. Could you tell me any large good ones selling japanese foods near central Tokyo?-and their nearest station. THNX

Answer:

I don't think there are any "best" markets in Japan, just go to your local market in the neighborhood you are staying in. You should be able to find most of the stuff you are looking for.

On the west side of Nakameguro station there is a "LIFE" supermarket. That supermarket should contain pretty much most of the items you'll need like mirin and snacks etc.

If you are looking for good wagashi, check out the basement food stores found at major department stores.

What is Japan approximately the size of?

Question:

Answer:

Many people might say CALIFORNIA because both are vertically shaped, and California is what most people (even if they are not from the US know).

However, in actuality, Japan is more approximate to the size of the US State of MONTANA.
If you turn the State of Montana vertically, Japan will be approximately that size.

(Montana is the 4th largest US state in terms of size)
Japan approximately the size of the state of Montana which is bigger than Germany, Malaysia, New Zealand and the U.K., and is 1.7 times the size of North and South Korea combined and 10 times the size of Taiwan.

Facts about each area:

MONTANA:
381,156 km2
147,042 sq mi

JAPAN:
377,944 km2
145,925 sq mi

CALIFORNIA:
423,970 km2
163,696 sq mi

What are some memorial museums for Japanese war atrocities?

Question:

I'm having trouble finding resources for Japan's war atrocities during WWII.
I found there weren't as many website/museums for Japan compared to Germany (even in consideration of the difference in magnitude of war atrocities).
I'd really appreciate if anyone could give some helpful museums.

I'm looking for sources along the lines of http://www.ushmm.org, but even if it's not necessarily a memorial museum website, anything that could help (such as an article or an actual memorial) will be welcomed.

Also, because of the nature of my research, I wouldn't need actual descriptions of war atrocities; I'm just looking for the sources. Thanks in advance!

Answer:

In Japan?!? Forget it. The Japanese do not believe they commited ANY atrocities during WW2. Trying to compare how open the Germans are with what they did in WW2 to Japan is like comparing night and day.

Just ask any Japanese about the Rape of Nanking and you will get all sorts of denials and that's assuming they even are aware of it.

If you want to learn about the atrocities commited by Japan during WW2, you have to look OUTSIDE of Japan. Look for sources in China, UK, US, Korea, Philippines, etc.

What would happen if I eat 50 slices of fresh salmon in a Japanese Buffet Restaurant? Is that bad for health?

Question:

I mean I dont exceed beyond what I can eat, but can consume that much and more than that. Do you think that is unhealthy. I dun eat like that so many times, only 1-3 times per year.

Answer:

I-3 times a year is not bad. It's bad if you eat them for 6 - 14 days in a row. You will most likely get mercury poisoning within that 2 weeks. A friend of mine ate lobster in Vietnam (being it only cost him $5 per lobster) for 7 days (might be 10 days or less, it has been a long time since then) for lunch and dinner, and end up in the hospital for mercury poisoning.

What a really good Japanese film?

Question:

so i could get more of a feeling into the vibe of japan?

Answer:

For starters, you should watch Kimi ni Todoke. :P

It's about, "Kuronuma Sawako is completely misunderstood by her classmates. Her timid and sweet demeanor is often mistaken for malicious behavior. This is due to her resemblance to the ghost girl from "The Ring", which has led her peers to give her the nickname Sadako. Longing to make friends and live a normal life, she is naturally drawn to Kazehaya Shouta, the most popular guy in class, whose "100% refreshing" personality earns him great admiration from Sawako. So when Kazehaya starts talking to her, maybe there is hope for the friendships Sawako has always longed for. Maybe...there is even a little hope for some romance in her future."

Does Japan recognize civil unions or domestic partnerships?

Question:

I know the same sex couples cannot marry in Japan, but what about "civil unions" and "domestic partnerships"?

Answer:

That kind of relationship is not recognized or appreciated as much as married couple in Japan even if it's not the same sex. So the same sex partnership is not even in questions.
