Marriage Visa for Japan, Affidavit of Competency to Marry, how to prepare it?

Question:

I am going to get a marriage visa for Japan, my boyfriend and I plan to marry in Japan & I come live with him in Japan. My boyfriend is a Japanese citizen (he was raised and born in Japan). I am from the U.S.

I am supposed to fill out and give this form to a consulate in Japan or am I supposed to send this or give this to the Embassy in the U.S.? I'm confused as to where I'm supposed to deal with the affidavit.
so I have to go to my own country (the U.S.) embassy to do this? or can I send it in the mail to the U.S. embassy? or I can do this in Japan?

Answer:

If you apply for a spouse visa for yourself, it's better to ask it directly to Japanese Embassy or Consulate you are going to apply. They know more than anybody else.

I need help about Marriage Visa for Japan?

Question:

Is there any Americans that married someone in Japan and got a marriage visa for Japan? My boyfriend and I are confused about the steps on how to do it and the website with the info on it says we can only contact them if its an emergency. We plan to get married in Japan and I live in Japan. My boyfriend is born and raised in Japan. Were confused about the steps on how to get a marriage visa.

Answer:

If you are from the United States, you do not need a visa to visit Japan (or even to get married) unless you will be staying in Japan for longer than 90 days. Assuming you will be staying in Japan with your spouse, however, you should apply for a spouse visa after the ceremony. The spouse visa will allow you to remain in Japan for as long as you like, though it must be renewed every three years. See below for a step-by-step guide through the process.

Instructions:

Getting Married in Japan

1 Apply at a U.S. consulate or embassy in Japan for an Affidavit of Competency to Marry. This certifies that you are legally eligible to be married. There are two parts to this document, the second of which needs to be completed in Japanese.
2 Notarize the Affidavit of Competency to Marry. This also can be done at the U.S. consulate or embassy. You will have to pay a $30 notary fee.
3 Translate the first half of the Affidavit of Competency to Marry (the part that you completed in English) into Japanese. Pay a professional translator if need be. You will need to have the entire document in Japanese in order for it to be considered valid by immigration officials.
4 Complete a Kon-in Todoke. This is a municipal marriage registration form that your Japanese spouse can get and fill out at the local municipal government office (usually at the City Hall wherever you are living). The Kon-in Todoke must be signed by two witnesses, who can be of any nationality.
5 Check with the municipal government office for additional required documents. Your Japanese spouse may have to provide his or her family register (Koseki Tohon). As a foreign national, you will have to submit your passport and/or alien registration card (when applicable).
6 Get married. After the ceremony, return to the municipal office to have the marriage recognized legally. After paying a 350-yen fee, you will be issued a Certificate of Acceptance of Notification of Marriage.

Applying for a Spouse Visa

1 Bring your Certificate of Acceptance of Notification of Marriage, passport, alien registration card (when applicable), two passport-size photos, required application forms (available at www.immi-moj.go.jp), a legal document verifying your financial means of support (such as a bank statement) and your birth certificate to the regional immigration office. Make sure to get your passport stamped with proof that you have submitted a visa application.
2 Wait for the Ministry of Justice to approve your application. This usually takes one or two months. As long as you have been truthful on your application materials and your other documentation is legitimate, you should have no problem receiving approval. If your 90 days of visa exemption expire before your application is approved, you will not have to leave the country. The stamp in your passport (Section 2, Step 1) allows you to remain in Japan legally while your visa application is processed.
3 Renew your spouse visa before it expires. The expiration date is listed on the visa (either one or three years). Visa renewal works the same as application: Bring your application documents (see Section 2, Step 1) to the regional immigration office and fill out the required forms. It is best to apply for renewal two months prior to your visa´s expiration date.
4 Continue to renew your spouse visa as needed to remain in Japan legally.

Is being Japanese fun? What is it like to be Japanese?

Question:

I want to pretend to be Japanese because I've seen a lot of anime and I've seen a lot of their work. Death Note is my 2nd favorite anime after Bleach because they always have all that data and it made it my so called favorite in 2006 because Raito Yagami always stares at his watch for 40 seconds after he makes a death note in his death notebook, kind of like I do but not all day instead. They have Japanese police force and they work on finding out who the killer is and whether it's a coincidence or whether Kira was there on the bus. They go on Google Sites that are in Japanese because they're in Japan. They write in Japanese and in proper Kanji and they can type and think thoroughly in their language like we can in English, so what is it like being Japanese? Is it fun? Could it be fun? What are the characteristics of being Japanese besides just living in Japan and knowing and speaking the language of Japanese and sitting in front of the TV and watching anime as it's also a thing Americans do too?

Answer:

Q. Is being Japanese fun?

Absolutely.

Q. What is it like to be Japanese?

Absolutely fun. You should pretend to be one too.

Q. What are the characteristics of being Japanese besides just living in Japan and knowing and speaking the language of Japanese and sitting in front of the TV and watching anime as it's also a thing Americans do too?

Absolutely. Watching anime everyday like an American is what I do. Other characteristics are not important. Watching anime is the ultimate joy of life.

Cost of going to japan?

Question:

I am wanting to plan a trip to Japan within the next year. I was wondering how much it would cost to fly to japan for golden week and how much it would cost to stay there the week with food, decent hotel, and a lot of sight seeing. Also would it be a good idea to learn Japanese before I go? I was thinking about taking a class for it.

Answer:

I am going to Japan in October with 2 friends and I did some serious number crunching before booking anything... I'm from AUS btw!
I got a $1100 international flight! Which is good... you can sometimes find cheaper ones... Not quite sure how much it would be from America but of-course it would be more expensive. Maybe $1400 - $ 1600!
The accommodation in Tokyo and Kyoto is cheaper for a triple... so I got a deal for Shinjuku washington for $458 for 9 nights and Hotel Monterey Grasmere Osaka for $385 for 6 nights! Go with friends :)
A lot of sightseeing will require a lot of travel so get a JR PASS for the week if you will be travelling lots with the shinkansen! Don't get a JR PASS if you don't travel heaps with a shinkansen... get a SUICA card for Tokyo! Thats what the Japanese use to get around... its prepaid, easy and convenient. There are websites that can help you find out how much trips cost. A subway/train trip from Shinjuku to Tokyo station is about 260 yen which is about $3 AUS which is about the same in $US.
Food and drink is a bit more harder to calculate. I am taking at least $800 for food and $200 for drinks...
Tours are all mostly $90 to $180 each! Lonely planet is good for those.

I have calculated that the 15 day trip will cost me about $4,900 AUS but will most likely go a little bit over the $5000...

As for the language... Please do learn at least some! It will help you heaps over there... it will a more cultural experience as well. I'm a bit more lucky then my friends... I learned Japanese for 4 years at school. It will help you!
By some guides and do your research!
Have a good time planning and have a good trip!

How much will it cost me to use my Japanese phone overseas (AU)?

Question:

I'm going to China for a month and I will be getting a call every 2 or 3 days for about 2 minutes, just the family checking up on me. I have a really cheap service plan at AU, not a smart phone or anything but I don't think there are any international deals with it though i know the phone works overseas.

How much could this end up costing?

Answer:

You said "but I don't think there are any international deals with it". So you are not supposed to use the current phone in China, right?

Are you planning to buy another phone for your trip? Please make clear.

How long until it is safe to visit Tokyo Japan?

Question:

Answer:

Is it safe to travel to Japan? Japan was hit hard by the disaster, but only 0.1 per cent of Japan was affected by the tsunami and the area that was affected is not a popular destination for tourists to Japan. Most tourists to Japan either visit the ski resorts in the north island of Hokkaido, which was not affected, or follow the “Golden Route” from Tokyo along the southeast coast to Hiroshima. The route include Hakone, Nagoya, and the traditional cities of Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Okayama. Most tourist attractions in Japan are now open, although some may have shortened opening hours to conserve power. All international airports are operating and this even includes Sendai Airport, which was damaged by the tsunami, and the bullet trains are all running as normal.

The smart people who have done their research realize that Japan is pretty safe to visit.

Why Hitler is killed for war crimes, and Japanese Emperor does not?

Question:

Answer:

Because the Occupation Forces (Allied Powers) in Japan decided not to kill him for the successful operation of their occupation of Japan after WWII.
They knew if they killed the Emperor, the Japanese would deadly refuse to be under the control of GHQ headed by US Army Gen. D. MacArthur.
The fact is that Allied Powers occupation policy of Japan had been decided long before the war was over, believe or not.

Is there something that you can help japanese people if you have a spare bedroom and lt them stay?

Question:

Answer:

Prada, save that self righteous crap for yourself.

To Zelink, i'm sorry but there are no Japanese refugees that are going abroad. Even if you open up your house, there's no way they will be able to stay at your place either.

In Japan itself, there are countless aid organizations and volunteers working around the clock to help those who have been affected by the disaster. The best way you can help is to make a donation to your Red Cross.

I am going to Japan and want some ideas on what to do in Tokyo?

Question:

I am going to tokyo

Answer:

Tokyo is one of the must see cities in Japan. It`s best not to think of Tokyo as one city but as a collection of separate smaller cities all connected by rail as it makes it much easier to explore the city. Each of these smaller cities has its own distinct character and attraction.

The highlights of Tokyo include, The Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine; Asakusa district famous for Sensoji temple and Nakamise shopping street with cheap, antique kimonos, geisha bags and beautiful paper products, Sensoji temple, and the Kappabashi kitchen street for those plastic replicas of food seen in restaurant windows. Ueno for its park and museums, Akehabara for electronics, Shinjuku for its shopping with its huge Takashimaya department store and food hall, Tokyu Hands eight level craft store and Uniqlo store for really cheap, high quality, basic clothing, Harajuku for cheap shopping and Japanese street fashion, and Shiodome for entertainment.

Other places of interest include Shibuya for its famous intersection where the style tribes gather and Shibuya 109 the 10 level fashion emporium. Rappongi traditionally known for its nightclubs and bars, but now for its numerous upscale boutiques, smart cafes and Rappongi Hills with the 52 storey Mori building and Tokyo City View a walkway that wraps around the building offering 360 degree views stretching as far as Mt Fuji. Ginza for Matsuya department store and food hall.

Japanese world war 2 bayonet what is the value?

Question:

very good shape

Answer:

the value will greatly depend on its current state, whether it has someone's name/rank engraved on it (and whether you can locate that soldier's name/batallion/regiment, etc.), details on where it was acquired (battle details) and the potential interest of the buyer

I have seen a couple over the years at flea markets and they usually sold for about $20-$25 (before major haggling). This does not mean yours is not worth much more but you will need to take it to an antique dealer to have it assessed

What to do to help japan need 5 reasons?

Question:

im highschool doing a presentaion on how to help japan with 5 slides but i cant think of 5 things to write about what do you think it should be

Answer:

First answer is wrong. You can't volunteer to work in the plant as they have enough skilled workers there already. The most common thing you can do is: donate money, clothes, etc and organise a charity fundraiser at your school. The only way to be there physically is to volunteer for a local charity who need workers to help out. They may/not pay for your flights and accommodation. At the time of the disaster, people where volunteering but i don't know if the demand is high or has cooled down

Females shouldn't say boku, but J-Pop girl groups use boku. Why?

Question:

I've been told that boku is a male form of saying watashi and, as such, its usage is restricted to guys. However, I know a lot of J-Pop songs by female groups, mostly AKB48 and their sister groups, that use boku all the time. Example songs from AKB48 alone include 僕(ぼく)だけvalue, 僕(ぼく)のYELL, and songs where they seem to use boku to refer to themselves.

So is boku really male-only? If so, why are J-Pop girl groups using it?

Answer:

僕 is normally used only by boys.

AKB sing from boys' stand point; boys' feeling towards girls/others.
These lyrics are apparently boys' wording, which girls usually don't speak in their daily life.

It the lylics of "僕だけのvalue", they sing like folloing and its clearly boy's words.:
君がいい You are my type.
どんな世界中の美女たちよりも 比べられないぐらい 君がいい
No other beautiful girls on earth cannot beat you. You are my type.

Some very particular case, girls might use 僕 to make it funny or make it sound boyish, but it's not very common.

What problems do foreign wives (housewives) usually face in Japan?

Question:

Lets' say the husband is Japanese and his wife is foreigner. I have read a blog about this. Almost all wives said there were unwilling to live with their in-laws and could not get along well with original Japanese housewives. Also the child upbringing differs a lot because Japanese way is more "according to the rule".

Answer:

many positives and many negatives

1) depends on the family you are marrying into. Some will welcome you with open arms and you are treated as a true daughter. Others will always view you and treat you as a foreigner.
2) depends on the area you live in. Foreign spouses are common in many but not all areas of Japan. In some areas you will be treated as a third class citizen
3) depends on your physical appearance and ethnicity: skin color, hair color, height, weight, race, etc. A blonde blue eyed nordic tall woman will be treated differently than an asian (e.g. filipina)
4) depends on the environment: some kids will accept other kids if they are half Japanese and others will bully them
5) depends on the bride: how open is she to change? how willing is she to let things slide? how easy going is she?

To be honest though, the same thing would happen in many other countries asian or otherwise.

"Pray for Japan" How does that statement have value in a country of mostly atheists/non-Christians?

Question:

You see it on everyone's facebook profiles. Majority of the people there are not Christian and some are atheist. How does it have value when they don't believe it and why is it a popular statement? How did this become a popular statement especially amongst Japanese and Chinese people themselves when they don't believe in the religion in the first place?

Answer:

I understand what you mean, it's kind of weird. But I guess it's moreso people asking for spiritual support rather than religious support and that's what Japanese people believe in, the spirit.

19th century japan info?

Question:

i am writing a story set in 19th century japan about some samurai's for english.
i need to no afew things for it though:

did they have hospitals or doctors in that time? and place?
did they have cameras or photos, or did they just get a painting done?

Answer:

Okay well this depends on when your story is set. Japan went through a huge amount of change between about 1860 and up till the start of the 20th century and beyond.

First of all, think about this - if you're sick where do you go? A doctors or hospital right. Back then Japan had a huge population and unknown to most a lot of Dutch knowledge on medicine and so forth. So of course Japan always had a medical profession but as you get closer to the 20th century it became more modern naturally and less like Chinese medicine. Especially when the English, French, Germans, Americans and Russians set up there bases in Japan.

Now before the Europeans came most pictures where done by woodblock printing. SO they weren't detailed at all. But when they came and early type of photograph style came along and so many samurai, geisha and feudal lords had there photo taken. Art as well became more like the Western style and there's actually a good painting of a samurai that was in Italy! But just remember these were the dying days of the samurai so unless they were interesting enough to photograph then money was definitely an issue. They were poor!

If your story is set before about 1860 then

Japanese Work Visa without a Degree or Diploma?

Question:

Hi,

I'm an Irish resident living in Osaki city, Miyagi, Japan. I am currently working for a private school and am 7 months in to my 1 yr working holiday visa. I have fallen in love with the country and its people especially after the March 11th earthquake, the people treated me so well always trying to offer me food and shelter.

As you can see from above I don't have a Degree or 10 years experience but i hope that i can stay also i feel that now maybe a better time for me to ask, with so many foreigners having left and even new ones who come i cant see them being too pushed on moving to a place that's 15Min's from Sendai by train.

Hope someone out there has some helpful info... if not it will be on to another country in October so if you even have any advice on other Asian countries that would be happy with someone who has just 1yr experience but no Visa that info would be great too.

Thanks in advance...

Neil

Answer:

You're on the right track, perhaps the only track, in getting your current company to extend your visa. I'm just not sure of the regulations on that. Other than that, you're left with the option of marrying a national or staying illegally.

What happened to actor Ebizo Ichikawa and has he been disqualified forever?

Question:

He's my favorite actor from a taiga drama (never seen kabuki plays) and I've just discovered about him being assaulted in a bar and then disqualified/removed from acting a year ago...I don't know whether he's acting again. I was just a little shocked about how strict they were about this incident? Why?

Answer:

I read somewhere that he got drunk at a bar and fought with a customer, saying "I'm a living national treasure" or "the government takes care of me" or something. He got badly injured.

"Kabuki actors (very special) should take much responsibility.
But he will make his stage comeback with the July “Dai-Kabuki.” He's also appearing in a new movie released this October.
If he were only one of those TV talents, I doubt this come-back would come true.

Jyuon 2
Takako Huji "Kayako Saeki" interview

I don't want another actress to play the part of Kayako Saeki. Honestly say, that's my role.

Any direction change compared with video version?

No changes. But motion became powerful and more and more difficulty.
For the first time, just coming down from the upstairs with neck motion, then director told me neck motion should be right, right then left, not symmetrical.

About make-up

Basically, there are no changes. Here in black, white face and purple lip.
It's hard to see in the movie due to darkness, blood vessel at here by the make-up. It's the director was particular about that style.
Make-up wasn't changed but a make-up artist's skill became better and better, so it is very close to the make-up what the director really wants.
Way of make-up became less stress for me. She/He was quite eager in the make-up skills.

About atmosphere of studio and location

It's very primitive film. Almost no computer graphics.
Procedure was very good. Well grow up adults got together and argue like, "We should stack this one more here?" "How about pull it by blanket?". It was very fun to make a film by primitive way.

About Kayako Saeki

I feel pity for her. She doesn't know expressions. Maybe she became a monster because she doesn't know how to communicate as human being. But I can understand how she feels, like loving someone so much. And I can understand how her husband feels also.

What kind of film do you like?

I like Europe taste film or I should say dramatic film such as " Breaking the Waves (1996)", " Oci ciornie (1987)".
I like a film ends with a hollow containing some elements of romance literature such as " Doctor Zhivago (1965)"
I like pure love story such as "Falling in Love(1984)".
Oh, every film that I like quite older, sorry.

Message for viewer

Jyuon 2 is so powerful, so horrified. Sayoko and Toshio working so hard. I want many people to watch this movie.
Presented by Sayoko, thank you.

Question:

from what I hear, they are a little more harsher. I don't know, so I'm honestly asking this question. speak honestly, please.

are people a little harsher to foreigners?
would it be better if i spoke japanese fluently?
would they treat african americans harsher or kinder, or equal?

from what i've grew up around, i've been influenced that they do, towards foreigners.. i 'm not sure, so i'm asking. how would i be treated visiting there. i don't know if i'm offending anyone, so if i am, i apologize.

Answer:

they will treat you like a tourist. if you go to shops and restaurants, people will be polite to you.
It will be different if you approach to locals. Some may be friendly, some may avoid you.

Differences between Okinawa and Mainland Japan?

Question:

I'm just curious if theres any major differences between Okinawa and mainland japan. For example the people, dialect, food, customs.

Answer:

basically, on a daily basis, they are the same, however okinawa was once its own kingdom so there are huge differences once you dig deeper

okinawan dialect of japanese is only 70% the same as tokyo japanese. this means around 30% of whatever an okinawan says in okinawan dialect can't be understood by a tokyo dialect speaker.

okinawa has its own local cuisine but really most people just eat normal japanese food (rice based, office workers eat ramen or curry rice and drink beer after work, sushi, etc)

the people are racially distinct from japanese but it depends on the family. pureblood okinawans have more close connections with their chinese ancestors. only people who know asian faces well can spot the difference between an okinawan and a mainland japanese - full blood okinawans tend to look a little different - but again this can vary wildly between people

okinawa has its own homegrown folk music and martial arts and dance styles. one of the slowest dances in the world called yotsutake / yotsudake is from okinawa - it's beautiful, check it out on youtube.
