Is Destination-Japan.com Good for traveling to Japan?

Question:

I'm planning on traveling to Japan in August-September, and will be going all alone. It'll be my first lone trip overseas, and I'll admit that I'm quite nervous about it...but I'm sure it'll be a great, unforgettable experience. I'm wanting to go through a travel agency on this first trip, and I'm really thinking about using www.destination-japan.com, but I was wondering if anyone here has used them - or if anyone knows where I can find some reviews on them.
I know they are managed by H.I.S. International Tours, which is supposed to be a very good travel agency (from the reviews I've read).

I know they're legit and everything, I'd just like to hear experiences or something.

The prices seem to be 'ok', I guess. I'd love recommendations for other agencies if anyone has any. Thanks in advance.

Answer:

when i was living in japan i used iace. they were pretty good

Why is it so important to be polite in Japan?

Question:

Do you also have to be polite when you're in a bad mood?

Answer:

It's a cultural development that comes from their isolation. Japan's population has only grown, but the island remains the same size (obviously). The traditions of people living in such tight quarters must accomodate for the average frustrations it causes or else there would be rioting and fighting non-stop. This means that forcing politeness (even when insincere) is a way to circumvent problems before they happen.

culture, arts, concerts, low cost of living, less crime nice young family friendly neighbor hood with many different cultural back ground for Japanese, American couples? I know Japanese community tend to be in New York City, Chicago, LA or California some where, but do not really like that Japanese pressures. huge cities sounds nice but too expense and high in crime. Forget about the South its bit of a twilight zone down there, North sounds nice, but people seems to be loud and rude.... If you are a local of where you grew up, that may be different and I hope you like it where you live. But that is not I am asking. :-)

Answer:

Columbia, Maryland...I think N.Y or N.J might have a reputation for loud & rude but not most of the North East....you might want to look for states that have high I.Q levels....I still think the state I live in specifically in Columbia, MD would be best for you.

What are the carry on restrictions for Japanese domestic flights?

Question:

I'm flying from Kobe to Okinawa and back for Golden Week, and I'm trying to figure out whether or not I'll have to check luggage on the flight back, since I'll be buying omiyage for my coworkers and friends.

Answer:

Best to check with the airline, but if not connected to any international flights, the bag weight limit is comparatively small.
About 15kg for checked-in bags. If you have an international ticket, then the international rules will apply. The same restrictions apply as international - for carry on, no liquids over 90ml, including gels, pastes, etc. And you can't carry things like knives.

Is it safe to buy things from Japan via online shopping?

Question:

I've heard on the news that radiation level is big, and has spread in near countries of Japan. Thing is, i want to buy from a shop located in Kanagawa. I don't know about the radioactivity in this area, but i seriously want to know if it's safe to buy. Is there any danger? Don't get me wrong, but im really concerned.

Answer:

You heard wrong. There is no danger in buying Japanese products. The only dangerous areas are in or a stones throw from the nuke plants. And that's in the north east part of Japan. You have nothing to worry about. If there was any dangers it would be killing off the people who sell the stuff !

Who Is affected by the Radiation In Japan?

Question:

I been looking all over the web and I can't find the right answer. Like who is most affected? will it affect the market ? can radiation affect peoples health in Japan and all over the world? is electricity a problem ?

thanx guys I really need this one =]

Answer:

According to articles on the web and TV reports

HEALTH
・Two power plant workers were affected by radiation and got injured. They got burned on their feet and legs, treated at once. Things were going well.
・Another woman was exposed to higher-than-safety-level radiation during her work. She was transferred to another section soon after that.

Electricity
・Rolling blackouts were under way in Tokyo Electric Power Company area and now suspended. It's not clear when they will be carried out again.
(Tohoku Electric Power Company announced the possibility of rolling blackouts just after the quake , but weren't realized after all.)

Market
・Shipments of vegetables and raw milk from part of Fukushima and prefectures around it were banned.
・Fishermen in Ibaraki and Chiba suspended their fishing activities after radioactive fish were discovered off Fukushima.

And as the cheapest902 answers, residents around the power plant were forced to evacuate.
I want to express my sympathy to them.

Google, and you'll find articles about those.

A question for "haffu"...?

Question:

Just out of curiosity, what features did you inherit from your parents? Do you look more like your Japanese half, or your other half? And ultimately, do you consider yourself Japanese, or not? Kind of a strange question, but I'm just curious. :P

Answer:

That isn't really a polite word anyone should use. I have a male friend who has a white father and a Japanese mother. He looks white. I have another friend who is married to a Japanese lady. Their daughter looks Japanese. So I'm sure there's no set answer for this.
What they consider themselves may depend on where they live. My friend here is 100 % American and has no interest in his Japanese half.

Average Japanese heights now?

Question:

I was curious about this. This is a question for natives and people who have visited Japan. I am a girl who's adult height is 5"5... in cm that would be 165? Is that too tall? I plan on going to Japan one day, and I don't want to be seen as weird... or too tall. I would feel so weird...

>.<

So would I stick out too much?

Answer:

The average height for a woman in Japan is 158.8 cm (or about 5'2") and a man is 171.2cm (or about 5'7"). Sure, you might be a little taller than average, but is it that bad? It's not by that much, and I don't think someone will look at you and say "Oh my gosh, she's 5'5", that's crazy!" So don't worry about it ^_^

Question:

Alright for of all I am still young so I have my whole life ahead I know this and I am a very diverse person and I still always keep that door open for any individual who loves me for me but I am really interested in the Asian Culture mainly the Traditional Asian Culture Like Japanese History or The Geishas and I really respect the elderly and Traditonal Moral and Educational Vaules I am also open to other cultures at the same time but I wonder would am Asian Guy even like a Black girl like me.

I mean I hear all these negitive things like how Asians only like their own or White and How they do not Find Black girls Attractive Physically I think I mean I am s nerd Average looking I am descried to my friend's as Sweet, Down to Earth, Shy, Quiet and very Nice but something also happen last year this Asian boy(Chinese) that I used to like treated me badly and called me ugly because I wasn't an Asian Girl and I just thought about what his heart was like not his Looks but I just wonder since I would like to move to Japan one day.

And since the Asian culture likes light skin will any Asisb boy like me for me if I go there Will one Like me by the contents of my Heart and not the Color of My Skin Thank You,.

Answer:

My answer is probably going to sound a bit cheesy but I truly believe that if there is a dream in you, it's meant to happen. Dreams are not something that people create but what gods plant in their hearts so that people would know which path to choose in their lives. Maybe the "Japan thing" is the path you should walk.

There are 130 million people living in Japan and, of course, they all have different tastes. Once I stumbled upon a Japanese dating site and many Japanese teenagers were interested in meeting blacks ONLY. I never see why there is a trend to think that whites are better than blacks. Why in Takeshi Kitano's movies foreign actors are always black (not a typical blonde American foreigner type).

This is a website about Asian-Black community http://euphorialuv.wordpress.com/ Just to proof that your pessimism is wrong. Forget about "a Black girl like me" thing please :)

Are there any websites that explain what the contents of japanese video games are?

Question:

I've been wanting to get Way of the Samurai 4 and Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan from this website that sells Japanese video games, but my dad told me to see what the ratings of the games are and what kind of content is in the game (In other words, do either of the games have sexual themes) I saw the back cover of both games and they had the sexual themes sign on the back. I went to the CERO website to look at their ratings, but that wasn't really any help at all. Are there any websites that say what kind of things these games have in them?

Answer:

Have you tried play-asia.com?

They sell games from Japan and such, providing information as well like the genre, version, players, release date, etc. Some people provide their comment on the game too and their have ratings that people vote on.

I hope this helped at least a little bit!

What is the Australian equivalent of Japan’s “prefecture”?

Question:

Answer:

Japan isn't a federal system so the states, territories and provinces of Australia, Canada and the US aren't really a parallel with the prefectures of Japan. It is about as close as you can get though. Don't forget that Tokyo-to and Osaku-fu are the equivalent of prefectures, not cities.

How safe is travel to Japan now?

Question:

I need to travel to Tokyo in mid of May. Is it safe to travel to Tokyo after considering the tremors and radiation? Please let me know the current situation, so that I can decide to travel or not. And also I am a first time traveler to Japan, please give me some tips to follow.

Thanks

Answer:

Tokyo is safe and business as usual. There are no harmful radiation reports in Tokyo and the aftershocks are normally happening but not so oftenly now. And most aftershocks could be below M 5 now, the ones you'll never notice it's happening.
For first time travelers, you'll have no problems just make use of your common sense and instinct. Road signs, train signs and warning signs in Tokyo have English translation on it.
Enjoy while in Tokyo
