Japanese: mono vs. koto?

Question:

So, if I remember correctly, mono is more of a tangible 'thing' than koto, right?
My question is, which would you use to describe something like blood type, or zodiac sign (for horoscope)? I think zodiac sign is more of an idea than an object, but for blood type I'm not too sure.

Mono and Koto both mean "thing" in Japanese. In case of blood type, I cannot tell you systematically, but we use the following way.
Ketsueki gata (blood type) to iu mono wa amari shinyo shite wa ikenai.
Ketsueki gata bakari iu koto wa saketa ho ga yoi.
