Can I change my Japanese coins into Japanese bills without commission fees?

Question:

Say, I have ten pieces of ¥100 coins and I want to change them into a ¥1,000 bill, are Japanese banks or stores willing to change them for me or do they charge a commission for that?

The thing is, I have more than 30 pieces of ¥100 and ¥500 coins and I don't want to carry them. Do you think I can easily change them into bills without paying the handling charges or commissions?

日本の銀行や商店で 100円の鋳貨 10個を 1,000円の紙幤に変えようとすれば手数料を支払わなければなりませんか?

Answer:

There is no commission for that. But some stores will decline to do so because they do not want to take unnecessary time.

I think banks will do that.
