Making pickled garlic for the first time!!?

Question:

I noticed that almost all the recipes i have found for pickled garlic calls for sugar and i was wondering does the sugar have to be added? Also is it better to use just straight vinegar? or is it better to use half vinegar and half water for the brine? If anyone has a recipe that they would like to share i would appreciate it. thank you

Answer:

Just about all pickling recipes contain sugar and vinegar. If you are only planning on making a small batch and intend to use it fairly soon, you can leave out the sugar and use a milder vinegar such as Japanese wine vinegar or mix it with water, but the end product may be sort of bland..
