Did people in Japan have a different accent 100 years ago?

Like an older way of speaking cause if you look at movies from like 50 years ago people dont sound very fast.

Answer:


modern standard Japanese is based Edo dialect.
Edo dialect is very fast and many words are omission.
because Edo's merchants ware busy businessman.
(what are you saying?) Nani itte yagarun dei? → 'ni 'tte yagan dei → Teyandei

Kyoto dialect is oldest dialect, and they still speak slowly.
Okinawa dialect too.
